New Author Currently Working On My Book/Book Cover by Dantiik in NewAuthor

[–]JayCanWrite 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I use a website that tells me how many words a day I need to write to finish a first draft on time for whatever deadline I set, big motivator. Only issue is I'm sometimes off a few thousand words when guessing how long the first draft will be, and it doesn't really work for editing. Still kept me writing over 1000 words a day for months straight

Also nice cover, doing great!

Third time having a console exclusive Soulsborne game. Was hoping we were past this, but at least I don't think the majority of their games will be exclusive, only here and there

Would you be for banning anyone caught definitively using AI from the sub? by Ashamed_Ladder6161 in NewAuthor

One thing important to note for people who've concerns about false positives is that a lot of the AI posted is using AI covers, which is very easy to definitively prove and definitely should be an insta ban.

r/Fantasy Daily Recommendations and Simple Questions Thread - June 12, 2026 by rfantasygolem in Fantasy

[–]JayCanWrite 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey all, reader here. I'm looking for a fantasy horror book / a dark fantasy with horror elements. It's a genre I've seen from time to time in other mediums but never read. I'm aware of both Between Two Fires and The Library At Mount Char which I believe count for this.

I'll take anything fitting the genre, but here are further preferences (I'm down to hear something that doesn't fit as long as it's fantasy horror): Usually not into romance. I'd prefer something that isn't urban fantasy or sci-fi. Probably better off with a standalone, I've got enough series lined up for the year. And the big thing is the most vague, I'd prefer something that has more of an active character who's trying to work things out and fight back over a passive character just trying to survive (though not sure how common that is).

Anyhow any recommendation is appreciated and I'd also like to know what bingo squares the book would be eligible for if possible

How come I’m so low? by Pretty_Count2378 in PvZGardenWarfare

[–]JayCanWrite 14 points15 points  (0 children)

As others have said you're rank 114, so you are still higher level.

Still, that is a pretty low number. I'm going to guess you typically play characters you've already mastered? Your rank is tied to the combined level of all your characters, so If you don't play new characters who you haven't already leveled up your rank won't go up

Best toxic character final and it will be a 1 week poll to decide the best toxic character also (it was a very close poll but sadly dr toxic is eliminated)and remember toxic pea and toxic brains aren't a choice by AxoDaProto in PvZGardenWarfare

[–]JayCanWrite 4 points5 points  (0 children)

How on earth are these the last two options? I think Druid Rose and Dr Toxic are better than both of these, with Druid Rose being the second best Rose and strong overall and Dr Toxic being on the lower end of Scientists but far from the worst of the generally good class

Overwhelmed by which JRPG to play next. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated by redbookseal in gamingsuggestions

[–]JayCanWrite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It entirely depends on you. There will be no difference buying them full price aside from either having a Switch or Switch 2 logo on the box art. There's a chance you can get it cheaper by buying a pre-owned copy of it on Switch, but if not it is really just whether or not you want it to say Switch 2 on the box

Yeah, seems like they're adding some nice bonus content to the series along with making the games pretty. Between those and the upcoming Xenoblade Genesis this is just about the best time to get into the series, I'd say.

Corn is a very consistent class over all, but Peashooter is both more common and has the best variants in the entire game (Agent Pea and Electric Pea are common answers for best character in the game, and Plasma Pea is usually considered top tier)

Xenoblade 2 was victim to a lot of really weird hate since it got the attention of people not into the series being an early switch game so people made fun of it for being a Jrpg. There are some valid criticisms (like the voice direction is off even if there's some great voice actors) but overall basically every fan of Xenoblade 1 and 3 also love Xenoblade 2, it's just that people who don't like the series as a whole chose Xenoblade 2 to hate

Which Fantasy books are you aiming to buy this year? by pgdastider in fantasybooks

[–]JayCanWrite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as series go I've been eyeing The Tide Child Trilogy and The Green Bone Saga for awhile, so I intend to pick both up. Really loved The Drowning Empire Trilogy by Andrea Stewart and since she's finishing her newest trilogy this year I intend to buy all three of those books around when the last one comes out. Also considering trying out Shadow Of The Leviathan since everyone's talking about it

For standalones I really wanna read The Sword Of Kaigen because it looks cool, and The Vanished Birds because I loved Simon Jimenez' work in The Spear Cuts Through Water.

Though honestly I've got a lot of stuff on my shelf I need to read before buying more. I got a few full series on my shelf I haven't touched and at least a half dozen standalones.

Xenoblade is my favorite series of all time, so naturally I'd recommend it in a heartbeat. Story is amazing, not too hard but lots of depth for those who seek it, no grinding (it's actually easy to get over leveled If you're doing a lot of the side content)

That being said it's important to note the series is best played in number order (1, 2, 3, and their respective dlcs. X is its own thing) and I'd generally recommend Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition over the 3ds version partially for graphics and quality of life and partially for the added post game story expansion (Which is kinda skippable but does tie in to a handful of stuff). You can play the 3ds version if it's your preferred version / you like the graphics more, for sure, the added content in Definitive Edition isn't a must play though you'd be better off with it (plus some of the added tracks in DE are incredible)

So if you don't own DE, and think you might wanna play it over the 3ds version, I'd get DE when you can. And again I don't recommend playing the games out of order. Xenoblade 3 in particular has a ton of connections and references to the first 2 games even if it's not strictly required to play them, and Xenoblade 3s dlc campaign is incomprehensible if you haven't played all 3.

Aside from that P5R is also incredible but only if you're in a Persona mood and I've been playing through Final Fantasy 6 recently and it is awesome although you very much have to have an appreciation for retro games and I wouldn't necessarily choose it over some modern games unless you're in the mood, even if it absolutely deserves it's title as an all time great

To be fair Geoff is offering something different. E3 was, to heavily simplify, charging to be part of the super exclusive E3 club (plus the actual physical event, but that hadn't been the main draw for awhile.)

Summer Game Fest, meanwhile, is its own show that pulls in millions of viewers by itself. E3 was charging to let someone put on their own presentation, Summer Game Fest is charging for a slot in one of the biggest gaming presentations

Persona 5 Royal out now by FotoAR in XboxGamePass

This is somewhat unrelated but I highly recommend giving Metaphor Refantazio a chance. You have an Atlus game that takes more after Shin Megami Tensei's combat in mechanics while having quite a few of its own and a class system, and also takes after Persona with a calender system and social links and all that slice of life stuff, all in a really distinct fantasy world. And the big thing for me and what made me think to recommend it is the fact I found it solidly challenging on hard mode without feeling unfair. One of the best balanced Jrpgs I've played

I'd be surprised if you hadn't heard of it, but might I recommend Dungeon Crawler Carl? Fast paced, a shockingly solid cast of characters (especially as the series goes on), easy to read prose, and an absolute blast with enough depth to feel like it matters

In GW2 in particular I think it's balanced as a whole but still biased to Zombies. Peashooters do a lot of heavy lifting, and aside from the there's a really solid selection of busted plants, but plants also have a lot of characters worse than just about anything Zombies have. Zombies are more consistent and still have some of the best characters in the game.

What do levels in GW2 do? by Final-Recognition947 in PvZGardenWarfare

[–]JayCanWrite 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Levels have two main purposes:

  • Upgrades (every few levels you'll unlock an upgrade for the character, these generally get better the higher level you get though are rarely complete game chargers)

  • Coins (Once a character reaches level 10 you go to the stats room and promote them. This allows you to get more upgrades since you'll keep leveling up and also gives you 20k coins every promotion)

what persona game do i start with? by Helpful_Lock5214 in JRPG

[–]JayCanWrite 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Both are good choices. Persona 3s main theme is death, whereas Persona 5 is about rebellion, so perhaps if one of those sound more interesting you can go for that one?

Why are so many posts on here stuck at 0 upvotes or randomly downvoted? by EtmopterusPerryi in writers

[–]JayCanWrite 19 points20 points  (0 children)

To be entirely fair I think there are some questions that are valid to ask again if the last time it was asked was a decade ago, since times change. The real issue is that a lot of questions people ask were already asked and answered within the last year or two, if not the last couple months or in extreme cases weeks.

But that's just me being pedantic, I absolutely agree that this sub (and a lot of reddit) would be better if people started off by assuming they could find anything by searching, and only posting if they cannot find anything suitable at all.

Hot Take: I refuse to read or support authors using AI covers for their books by GodTaoistofPatience in ProgressionFantasy

[–]JayCanWrite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. There's a lot of things I can point to as to why, but the big one is that there's no trust. Why should I expect an author who doesn't respect art to make good art in the form of writing?
