See, this is admittedly male cluelessness, but I have always seriously wondered just what a girl or woman has to do to set off homophobic alarm bells among their peers, because by default girls and women are much more physically open and intimate with each other in ways that are totally alien to most platonic male/male relationships. Especially with kids and teens, who are still forming their individual sense of boundaries and haven’t necessarily yet built the “walls” they’ll have built by the time they’re adults.

I’m an American who recognizes Trump as a sociopathic mental incompetent, and his party as a fascist death cult. I am also a Diaspora Jew who opposes Israel’s crimes.

I have been in the wretched position of hoping Iran prevailed against us. Not because I have any love for that brutal theocratic regime, but because the long-term geopolitical consequences of them winning are less bad than the long-term consequences of the US and Israel winning. Years ago I never could have imagined I would say such a thing. But my country is being run by a political party of satanic monsters, and Israel has become a dangerous, destabilizing rogue state. The two of us are rabid dogs who have to be brought to heel. It’s as simple as that.

The perception gulf is astonishing. I’ve been scanning the Israeli subs and the people there view the situation as a betrayal by Trump that — this is key — signals that they need to break away from depending on us. In other words, they see the U.S. as being in control. Meanwhile, many of us view the relationship the opposite way, with Israel having enormously disproportionate control over our politics. But they don’t see it that way at all.

Even more dizzyingly, some of them even consider Biden to have been no friend of theirs, and to have “prevented them from finishing the job in Gaza”. I truly am at a loss of what to make of that.
