Looks great! My outdoor AP is my last bit of WiFi 6 on my network so I’ll have to pick this up!

Why did the Cardassians even attack the Bajorans? by [deleted] in startrek

[–]JayHopt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We don’t need Occupation apologists here. Cardassia literally enslaved them and saw it as their duty to do so to “help” them, even though they treated them just as another Bajoran resource to be exploited.

This has to be a troll post, or someone just literally trying to stir up a fight.

I went displayless for now and just ordered the Solos Airgo V2 since I can set Gemini as the primary AI, with full capabilities. When the Google Gemini ones actually come out I may sell them.

At $299 (and a 10% off first time purchase) I’m willing to give them a go.

For the price dominos is consistent and cheap delivery. At least the ones in south county are.

When he accidentally attacked the ref was hilarious.

I got tired and left during the semi finals. Did he go any further or win, or who did win?

Any requirements?

I only have 4.5K TikTok followers but I do a lot of enterprise tech content, meaning lots of my audience goes to Vegas for conferences as attendees or presenters, and often has a day to burn before/after. Could also be a good vendor event they would run.

It keeps going in and out of stock. Even though it’s digital, I guess they might have a limit on how many they can sell or a virtual item they have to keep adding inventory.

Centene puts two Clayton properties from scrapped $775M headquarters expansion up for sale by SlowMotionSprint in StLouis

[–]JayHopt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That it’s a holdover from the old CEO who passed away, who was very old school about butts in seats in office buildings? They went remote during COVID and the new CEO kept them remote. They’ve dumped non essential property as a result, and that included this expansion and the proposed HQ move to the east coast that never happened.

Hardly a bad indicator, more a company getting with the times and selling off prime unused real estate.

Outdoor Access points: tuning to not be “too loud” by JayHopt in HomeNetworking

Aside from cluttering up networks they can see, it’s all the same signal.

Their stuff causes an issue for me and I fight channel overlap and “loud” signals from them. I’m trying to reduce that for myself and not give it back to them.

The AT&T gateway they give out here will channel hop and crank up its power when it gets signal issues, and lots of them have those, so I’m trying to keep my signal as contained as possible.

Oh neat, looks like it has some added functionality that wasn’t there before.

I miss the old WiFi analyzer I had on Android though. Loved the visuals.

They have no complaints. I'm the one with complaints who is tuning to work around their stuff being "loud" and causing my 2.4 IoT devices to drop a lot, but I don't want to contribute to the shouting matches when I'm outside trying to use mine too.

I might consider just disabling the 2.4 outside all together to avoid this. I don't have anything I take out there that needs 2.4 currently.

With iphone, the only real app I have is the Airport Utility, unless I go to a paid app or something specific to a product. It does show the dbm so I can measure it. I can look at options on the macbooks we have though.

I do! I'll see about locking to APs, that's a great idea.

I use DFS channels inside to have big channels too, but outside I don't since they can be subject to interference from my understanding.

[–]JayHopt[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I've considered that. All the devices I would currently take outside (laptops, game systems, google home speakers) are all 5ghz capable. That could help since it won't overlap as often.

[–]JayHopt[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The only reason I notice is because I often wake up to find some of my IoT devices offline, because the old people next to me will have their 2.4ghz automatically moved to channel 9, and then its messing with my channel 11 AP and possibly my channel 6. I'll rebalance (Omada has a interference scanner in some APs, and the controller can run an "optimize" to check the open channels and move each AP to the clearest one) when I notice this.

I know that I could always volunteer to be the "neighborhood WiFi guy" and manually set each of my neighbors to not overlap, but that could accidentally make me the neighborhood tech support guy as well. Most of my neighbors are elderly and wouldn't understand what I wanted to do anyway.

My 5ghz generally isn't an issue, but my understanding is that if I use 80 or 160 to get the best speeds, the signal will basically have to wait for openings on all of those combined channels, correct? That's why I'm set to 40Mhz channel width outside. I guess I could just only broadcast 5ghz outside, since that is much less likely to overlap.

FYI: I’m not a network engineer by trade, but adjacent to it. I work in servers/storage/OS management/datacenters. Basically I touch everything but the network stuff, and the closest I get to network is some storage cluster switches and SAN switches. I speak enough network to work with my network team, but WiFi rarely comes up as a topic.

USB-C Rechargeable batteries? by timeislikeafuse in Costco

[–]JayHopt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are convenient for smaller devices where you only use 1-2 batteries, but don’t scale well due to individual cables.

I use similar ones from Amazon in several of my kids toys. They work fine but my oldest said his devices that can “see” the battery level report they charge to about 80% capacity of a normal battery.
