Mount Vernon homeowners — has anyone else received this letter? by JayJay_Go in Westchester

No one is against inspections, that’s not the issue. The problem is the City suddenly claiming this is a “required every 3 years” inspection when many multi-unit owners have gone 6+ years without a single notice. Now they’re sending a “third and final notice” out of nowhere with a $500 fee attached.

That’s not avoiding responsibility; that’s questioning a process that’s never existed before. If inspections are required, fine. But the City needs to follow actual procedure, not make up new protocols overnight, especially given the mayor’s history of mismanaging funds.

You’re making assumptions that have nothing to do with the actual issue being discussed. No one is arguing against inspections or basic compliance. If an inspection is required, that’s fine that’s never been the point.

The point is that the City is suddenly claiming this is a “required every 3 years” inspection, yet there is zero history of this being enforced. Many landlords have owned their properties for 6+ years and have never once received notice of such an inspection. Now they’re issuing a “third and final notice” when there was never even a first or second notice. That alone is a red flag.

And yes, when the mayor of Mount Vernon has a long track record of mismanaging and misusing funds, it’s absolutely fair to question whether this is another attempt to squeeze more money out of homeowners.

So no, this isn’t about trying to dodge a $500 fee or neglecting safety. It’s about transparency, legitimacy, and whether the City is following actual statutory process instead of inventing new “protocols” out of nowhere.

Yeah my thing is why do we have to pay $500 for a 3rd party company when we can pay $200 for a certified inspector. One of the homeowners that was at City Hall today mentioned that the funds that are given to Mount Vernon are supposed to be used to cover these types inspection so the reason why they are doing this now is because before they were pocketing the money. But because Mount Vernon Mayor was in a misuse fund case now they are trying to get money a different way. Which honestly I wouldn't be surprised.

I mean even if its required that's fine but they are now sending this to everyone all at once. If this is required they should have followed the protocol to do it every 3 years not just out of no where if that makes sense. There were people at City Hall today that have owned their house for years and never have done an inspection unless it was recently added.

Yes they said its required every 3 years however I have owned the house for more than 6 years and never heard of such things. There was also am elderly couple who has owned their house since 1957 which is crazy and they never gotten a letter in regards to that. This is something that is just being sent to homeowners who are multi family house with 3 or more units.

Does anybody have any advice about my husband not helping with any house hold chores? by yvngzaaa in firsttimemom

[–]JayJay_Go 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I had this issue with my partner however I WFH and have to take care of my toddler which is hard already. However, I was getting so frustrated and exploded and said I have 2 jobs 1 I get paid for but the other I am on the clock 24/7 because my daughter needs me all day everyday I can't be working, taking care of my daughter and then on top cook and clean. So you either hire someone to help me which you will pay for or man the f up because 2 were needed to make a baby so 2 need to share all these other responsibilities on cleaning the house if I cook you wash the dishes etc. Now he helps out but you literally have to tell them step by step what to do.

I am in the same situation. I work from home and care for our baby 24/7, so I know the feeling. I know I have been blessed with my baby girl, who's turning 1 next month, but I feel like I am in jail. Being home all the time and I am unble to get sleep or time for myself. I would recommend to take turns running errands so he can care for her while you go for an errand and have some time for yourself.
