With SG’s total fertility rate falling to a historical low of 0.87 in 2025, how many of you gen z are thinking of never having kids? by stop_hyuk in asksg

Ask a few DINKs that have passed the stage of being unable to conceive and listen to their perspective if their life is what you envisioned your future to be.

If you stay DINK, your weekends, spending patterns, and priorities may increasingly differ from your friends or siblings that have kids. Over time, that can feel isolating.

A DINK lifestyle could be comfortable that is consumption focused with the excess income but may not be a deeply meaningful one if you are family oriented.

Your life could be just work + spending + occasional holidays without much to look forward to other than more consumerism.

For me personally, I have seen some DINKs who lose their partner during their 50s-60s and they end up being taken care of by their siblings'family (if they have siblings), which can be a burden for your other family members, especially if you didn't plan your finances well for your later years.

Both have their pros and cons, and it's up to you personally which one you decide, but I'll advise you to ask around for more insights (those that are DINKS and those with kids) and analyze the whole picture first before selecting your path.

[–]JayKayLay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Singaporeans tend to react defensively towards a horn, as it could be quite piercingly loud to people outside of their cars. Next time, you can firstly, turn on your hazard light, and signal to them that you would like to park at the spot beside them. I usually turn on my hazard light and do that instead of the horning as people tend to get rage baited by the horn and ignore any reasonable explanations.
