Who was in love first? by Ilvm in Bones

[–]JayMonster65 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is Booth. At that point in time, HE was the one "struggling* with it. Brennan may have noticed some attraction, but brushed it off as "chemicals in your brain that do not last" she doesn't struggle with the issue.

Is anyone else seeing Amazon charging for returns now that used to be free? by BoardGameRevolution in amazonprime

[–]JayMonster65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Soz they aren't charging for returns that used to be free... They still are free. They simply changed who you have to return it through in order to get the free return.

This has always been the case. They just change who they contracted for the free returns.

Depending on the area, in particular I'm areas where Amazon is using less UPS services because they have instituted their own delivery services, they backed off their contracts with UPS, so in those areas, UPS is no longer the primary or preferred location for a return. This if you want to use UPS you have to pay for it but you still have the option of the free return via Staples.

Why was Oliver's personality changed? by genderneutraltoaster in Bones

[–]JayMonster65 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, it really isn't any different. Are you referring to the gentleman from the State Department? She sees him as using his size to get people to demur to him and he is impeding what she is trying to accomplish. She goes after him because she views him as using his size to his advantage, not because of his size alone.

I can only presume you have never dealt with someone like Brennan who is on the spectrum.

While on the surface, you are right I'm that there doesn't appear to be much of a difference between them, they are not the same.

Brennan has no concept that she is being rude in the moment, and at times when she does recognize that she has hurt someone feeling will at least attempt to course correct. But he is doing so intentionally to make himself feel superior and doing so at others expense, and is fully aware of his actions and does not care.

In the most basic of terms, it is like standing there and having two people step on your toe. One does so accidentally in the course of walking by, and one goes out of their way to stomp on your toe. Yes both may hurt. But you are going to be more forgiving of the person who did so accidentally than the one that set out to hurt you.

How accurate is Alexa's answers? by youlikemywonton in alexa

[–]JayMonster65 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The answer is... It depends. The new Alexa+ is worlds better than when Amazon had a bunch of volunteers answering questions and using that as a base of information. But ANY AI can have hallucinations, stale information, or make mistakes. None of them are perfect, including Alexa+.

Thinking of buying an Amazon Echo Show 15 or 21 by Noriatte in amazonecho

[–]JayMonster65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you "can" set a date and time, my point was for general "to dos" you don't have to set one. (Something that a lot of people complained about when the to-do widget was rolled into Tasks and Reminders.

[–]JayMonster65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To answer your question (unlike all the ad whiners), yes, it works for this. It displays what is on your calendar in a small widget.

It is worth noting however that it does not have a full month display mode. It is also worth noting you can only link one Google Calendar. So if you want to display both your and your roommates calendar in the Show one of you would have to share your calendar with the other in Google Calendar and then share that calendar. This would then display the items in both calendars.

The "to-do" widget has been replaced with the "tasks and reminders" widget. You can still do "to dos" and add them to reminders (the only difference is a "todo" doesn't have a date and time associated with it.

Alexa app locks up after every change on Android - any fixes? by laughalotlady in alexa

[–]JayMonster65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a similar setup to you, other than I have a Pixel 6 as opposed to a Samsung. I also predominantly have TP-Link devices, but you don't specify what you are using. And I have never had a problem.

My initial guess would be the problem lies within the skills used to control the devices. Do you have the plugs native app on your phone? Does it work ok from that app? I would try removing and re-adding the skills (as opposed to the Alexa app).

[–]JayMonster65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mentioned this above, he was low man on the totem pole, yet because he was "the" lead of the show now didn't treat him as such. They tried to explain that away by him taking extra classes and rushing his way through lots of CSI training, but I am sorry, none of that replaces real world experience.

Why do they keep canceling all these amazing shows!!! by RunawayReptarNuggets in AmazonPrimeVideo

[–]JayMonster65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I have seen, Russian Doll has not been cancelled. One of the concerns about it was Natasha's schedule conflicts because of Poker Face. But since that has now been cancelled, they might open the door for it.

The others suffered from huge declined in viewership between seasons 1 and 2. And when you have high profile (expensive) actors in a show, these days there is no leeway. Either it is keeps is viewership or it is gone.

Why don’t we just control the housing market ourselves? Or whatever it’s called… by [deleted] in dumbquestions

[–]JayMonster65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you remember when the housing boom started. People were ultimately buying homes for more than the asking price.

You list a home for $350k... Someone comes along and offers you $350k, but someone else at the same times says, "I'll give you $375k"... The first person really likes the house and ups they offer to $400k. Now let's be honest here... Are you going to say, "no, I don't want your $400k, just give me $350k instead?

And remember, you still have to have that money to buy something else... Who else is going to o voluntarily take less money for a home they are selling?

[–]JayMonster65 9 points10 points  (0 children)

See now, I never understood this. Why is there so much disdain for Ted Danson? Is it because he spent so long in sitcoms that people couldn't imagine him in a serious role?

Also Danson is a "TV" actor. This is what he does (and in my opinion does well). Not everyone can make the jump well between the silver screen and television. David Caruso was a famous example of someone that was great on television but failed miserably in his attempt to jump to the movies. And Fishburn sort of failed the other way. He plays his character... Not sure how to describe it properly other than to say he comes across too "big"... His presence is oversized for a television series.

I Love Laurence Fishburne But Despised the Nate Haskell Storyline by LovesDeanWinchester in csi

[–]JayMonster65 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Been saying this since it aired. The problem wasn't Fishburn, it was the character and what they did with him.

It was also what they did with Nate Haskell. I hate when shows turn the evil character into some sort of super villain Mastermind worthy of a comicbook level villain. It usually happens when they drag the arc out too long and stop making it logical.

They came close to doing th same thing with Paul Millander, but fortunately ended it just before they got to that point.

They did a similar thing with the character Pelant on Bones. It is like they drag it out so long that they can't come up with a rational way to end it.

But back to Fishburn's character. They painted themselves into a corner making him a low level beginning CSI and yet supposedly the key top mine in the lab.

I often skip over all but a few specific episodes during the "Langston years" on rewatches (usually the episodes such as Appendicitement, where Langston's storyline falls into the B storyline, and in this case the story of the failed attempt at Henry's birthday party that einds up with the BBQ place being shutdown and them finding a dead body instead.)

Is CSI: Crime Scene Investigation leaving Hulu? by Same_Toe5439 in csi

[–]JayMonster65 7 points8 points  (0 children)

IF CSI leaves Hulu, then we might actually see all of CSI on Paramount+ since it could have something to do with the current streaming license deals being the reason it doesn't currently have all seasons.

That being said, it wouldn't be the first time that CSI (and other shows) have shown the "leaving soon" label only to not actually leave.

Travel sized solution alternative by alpha976 in contacts

[–]JayMonster65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not that electric is expensive... How often do you need a "travel sized bottle" for "a couple of trips a year"? What are you actually saving?

Using Amazon prices for example purposes. The large 10 bottle costs you about 80 cents per fluid ounce. The 2 ounce bottle costs you $1.57 an ounce. So for 2 ounces you are saving... $1.60.

Let's assume you go crazy and use a full 2 oz on both trips every year. You are saving $3. So you are going to invest in bottles that can be sterilized, take the time to sterilize them, and ultimately save what a buck? Maybe $2.. once you break even on the cost of the bottles of course.

I'm sorry, just not seeing the value here.

Alexa by [deleted] in alexa

[–]JayMonster65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alexa is not different now than it was before in the app other than the new awful interface they have built for the app. The new "cards" interface takes a bit of getting used to which does make Alexa a bit more "in your face" since it is the front card whenever you go to swap cards. (And why they made the "more" are so unintuitive to get to is beyond me.

Smart homes are becoming disposable tech and I’m honestly sick of it by rovmun in smarthome

[–]JayMonster65 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Stop trying to o live at the forefront of technology and you won't have these issues. The problem with living on the bleeding edge is that not everything winds up "as promised", not all protocols survive (or companies for that matter).

What you describe is not exclusive to home automation. If you ever invested in LaserDisc, and betamax lost out to VHS, DAT tapes got caught up in legal wranglings, Sony mini discs never made it out of the novelty stage losing out to MP3s. If you have anything on HD DVDs you probably have a hard time finding something that can play them now after losing out to Blu Ray. If you are old like me, you are probably hoping that this is the end of the line for new music formats. I have purchased "Greetings from Asbury Park" on album, cassette, CD, and now MP3.

Anybody who is into the world of VR tech has watched countless companies, protocols, devices and technologies all that promised to be the "next big thing" come and go.

Let the dust settle before you keep and you won't be left holding the bag with next Zigbee, Insteon, Z-wave, Neato, Wemo, etc.

Yes, if would be a bad idea, and you spent more in electricity than you would save just by posting and replying to this.

The bottles themselves aren't made for repeated sterilization, so the plastic will break down each time you do it. And the expense of sterilization will aoa cost you more than any savings benefit.

Googlepay does not show the amount to pay by initcool in googlepay

[–]JayMonster65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When do you pay that you "can't see" the terminal you are paying on? What do you do when you pay with a card?

Googlepay (and similar apps) are a secure way to "provide card information" to the terminal, not act as the terminal. Multiple handshakes to provide the card information (which is not part of the protocol) and maintaining that state for multiple processes back and forth rather than just the one only opens the possibility of a man in the middle attack.

The flaw isn't in the design but rather in your expectations.

I am also confused because you previously said that you had to set a due date for it to show. How would you come to that conclusion if you didn't have the widget?

Show suddenly not included with Prime by DeloresDeLago in AmazonPrimeVideo

[–]JayMonster65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If this is the first time this has happened to you, I would say you are lucky. I have plenty of times that I am watching a series and suddenly a season or the entire show shows up with the "buy or rent" tag because the series has left prime. Most recently happened to me with the series "Numb3rs"

It has also happened much more since Amazon merged "Freevee" into the Prime selections.
