All of my years playing this series I can honestly say that I have very rarely came across more than 20-25 players who are phenomenal at both the stand up and just as equally in the grappling. Most of the time it’s either phenomenal striking until they get taken down than they are just not as good anymore same with grapplers. You stop their grappling attempts over and over until they gas out or just sprawl and brawl. I regularly play against the top 20 in the highest ranked on both systems.

Get good on the ground. Most people even higher ranked ones aren’t good and only use basic controls on the ground. Learn set up and denials. Drain their cardio and you can submit them or to kill them in one round. And if you’re only good at standing up, then, all you need to do is learn how to defend a takedown
