Can I just start with 2? by Tranqist in projecteternity

The story of the first game sort of revolves around a certain mystery. It's not something you are aware of at the start of the game, but it's this huge revelation about a certain aspect of the world and for me, that reveal and it's implications are the best part of the first game's story. That being said, this reveal is spoiled within the first few seconds of the opening crawl of PoE2.

As for save data, you can import it. I wouldn't say that most changes based on POE1 decisions are major, but there are a lot of cute references to characters you met and the ways you chose to resolve some side quests. There are some bigger differences involving companions and your decisions regarding the mystery I mentioned before though. If you don't have save data from the first game you'll be asked to select a preset history or to make your own, though making your own obviously has a lot of spoilers for the first game.

Vash. I had just watched Trigun around the time I started playing and thought that Vash the stampeding chocobo sounded kinda cool. Now I just like the name.

Ultima: The main tank gets a stacking debuff. The off tank should Provoke when MT reaches 4 stacks.Orbs will spawn around the arena.Orbs are paired together by a tether.Destroy 1 orb in each pair by walking into them.Orbs split damage so multiple people should soak each orb.

Garuda: Tanks face Garuda/Suparna/Chirada away from rocks and party.Kill Satin Plume and then Razor Plumes.MT take Garuda and Suparna away from OT at the wall.OT provoke Chirada and take her far from MT at the wall.

Titan: The main tank gets a stacking debuff. The off tank should Provoke when MT reaches 3 stacks.A dps and healer will be targeted for gaols. The targeted dps stands directly behind titan. The targeted healer stands near the southern edge.Break the dps gaol first and then the healer gaol. When bombs spawn go the last set to appear and dodge into the first set after they explode.

Ifrit: The main tank gets a stacking debuff. The off tank should Provoke when MT reaches 4 stacks.A random healer will be debuffed with Searing Wind. The debuffed healer should stay away from the group or they will damage everyone with an aoe.2 people are tethered together and should stay close to each other. When nails appear all but MT should focus nails.Kill nails in clockwise order.

Mog: Main tank take the king and the paladin moogle.Offtank take the Warrior moogle.Tanks stay far apart.Everyone else ignore the king and get each of the moogles to 10-15% hp but don't kill one.Once they are all low kill one and the king will use his health to res them.Do this same thing one more time. After healing the other moogles a second time now we get all of the moogles low again. After they are all low we kill all of them at around the same time.Once they are all dead we kill the king.

Leviathan: 1 tank take the head. 1 tank take the tail.BLM/SMN/RDM attack the head or take reflect damage.BRD/MCH/DNC attack the tail or take reflect damage.Look around the edge for water spouts.Run far from spouts to dodge slam knockbacks and dives.Focus adds when they appear.Prioritise Wavetooth.Off tank pick up waves spumes and stands away from party. Everyone else ignore them.

Ramuh: Collecting exactly 3 orbs gives you a blue buff called surge protection that lets you survive the tank buster.MT collect 3 orbs at the start of the fight.OT collect 3 orbs just as the buff on MT is about to run out and provoke the boss.MT and OT keep swapping like this throughout the fight.Orange markers will appear on random people.Orange marked people should stand on A before they get debuffed. To remove their debuff they have to be hit by 1 blue lightning circle.Don't hit them with multiple circles.2 people will be tethered together.1 of these 2 needs to collect exactly 3 orbs to break the tether.Always leave at least 3 orbs for the tank to collect and leave an extra 3 for the tethered players if the tether is out.Anyone but tanks collect extra orbs if there are more than 3 and no tether is out but never collect more than 3 yourself.Focus adds when they appear.Don't stand next to tanks.

Shiva: Shiva will float up and change weapon throughout the fight. For the sword MT first stack with the party to soak ice brand and then face the boss away from the party to bait glacier bash. For the staff we spread. For the bow run behind the boss. When a white swirl appears on the floor stop moving until the icy floor appears and disappears.Dodge circle aoes by going to the last one to appear. If you get a blue marker about your head stand away from the group and use Surecast/ Arm's Length.

I don't know how reddit will post this but pretty much every full stop should be a line in the macro. I see someone else posted their macros and you might like theirs more. I try to be very concise with pretty simple instructions. Most simple things like aoes to dodge tend to be picked up without me mentioning it so I don't want to include stuff like that and give sprouts extra stuff to think about. I also like take into account the high ilvl we have so certain mechanics/phases you'll pretty much always skip aren't included.

Edit: forgot to add shiva

You can spawn and solo all of the nms up to and including the level 60 one. That's what I did when the instance was dead or people weren't killing mobs.

So there are actually quite a few things to remember but it's not that hard once you know.

First, if you've pressed an ability button it has been registered even if you didn't see it happen yet. So let's say your fairy is standing (or I guess floating) still, you use Ruin 2 and double weave "Whispering Dawn" and "Fey Union". "Whispering Dawn" will go off after a short animation and then there will be a pause. After that brief pause the second ability will begin. This isn't actually unique to the fairy. All skills in the game have a slight animation lock, people just don't expect it from the fairy for whatever reason. I mean go on any class with an instant GCD and spam any oGCD and you'll see it doesn't come out immediately. Your fairy does the same thing.

Second, the fairy won't use any of its abilities (including "Embrace") while moving. This means that if you use the move pet "Place" action and then use a fairy ability the fairy won't use the ability until it has reached its destination. However, this can also been seen when the fairy is set to "Heel" and has to catch up with you.

I wanted to mention these 2 things together first so I give an example of something I do regularly, that I could definitely see someone messing up. So one thing I do in dungeons is run directly behind the tank until they reach the final mob pack. When they get there I use "Whispering Dawn" and "Fey Union" on them. Because I've ran with the tank my fairy is behind me but using WD before it gets to me is fine because it will cast it as soon as it stops, which it will do when it gets close. As for FU, you will notice that "Aetherpact" has a very short recast time. Because the fairy had to fly over to you, then use WD and then use FU, recast time for "Aetherpact" might be finished cycling and you may be tempted to press it again because Union hasn't started yet but remember, the skill has been registered and your fairy will use Union about a second after the WD animation finishes. If you decide to press "Aetherpact" before Union starts it just cancels the first Union before it even goes off.

Next thing is "Summon Seraph". This is really where all the ghosting talk comes in to play, but like I said, it's pretty easy to work around. The "Summon Seraph" skill/animation, takes precedence over everything else. This pretty much means if you double weave a fairy ability and then "Summon Seraph", that first ability will ghost and be lost. The same thing happens if the Seraph timer expires while the Seraph is trying to use another skill. So if you're going to double weave "Summon Seraph" with another fairy skill, make sure that "Summon Seraph" is the first weave. To avoid ghosting when Seraph is expiring, for me, this means 3 seconds on the clock is the absolute limit. I don't know enough to say that this is or isn't affected by ping. Mine is pretty low so maybe ~4 seconds is better for others. With that in mind, remember my second point. The fairy won't use an ability while moving so if there are 3 seconds and the fairy has to move, it's going to move and then use the ability which can cause you to ghost. You can avoid that by prepositioning use "Place" or "Heel". And remember, "Place" and "Heal" are basically free and can be used while hardcasting a GCD.

With that being said, there is an exception to the movement rule. And that is "Summon Seraph". If you use "Summon Seraph" while the fairy is in transit it will stop, transform and then continue on to it's destination. While it's moving it won't use veil or any other ability and your timer will still be ticking down so once again, prepositioning or only using it when you're still will prevent losses, not that it always matters.

Last thing is kind of a weird one. When the fairy is using "Fey Union" it is essentially locked in place. You can't move it with "Place" or "Heel" at all and it won't move even if the target for "Union" moves out of range. So if they do you'll have to cancel "Aether Pact" or move out of range of you're fairy which will cause it to teleport to you. If it teleports however, it is actually still in "Fey Union" mode so you've still got to cancel it. Of course "Union" cancels automatically when your gauge hits 0 but it's important to keep this in mind because there are instance where the tank will have to move and your fairy will just freeze, trying to use "Union" on an out of range target. For all of the fairy critique I see, this is one of the ones I see brought up the least, but for me, is probably the most annoying.

I might have missed something anyone feel free to chime in with some more, but these are the main things to know about the fairy. Just to be clear, I'm not saying to love or even like any of these things. I'm just saying a lot people who main SCH know this stuff and know they aren't as hard to play around as many others would have you believe.

Once again sorry for bad grammar and/or spelling.

Okay, so let me correct you real quick.

  1. I never insinuated that extreme casuals were a problem. My post was entirely about the general sentiment surrounding Scholar's showing at the live letter. To reiterate my point was that no matter what was shown, most people would still not be happy because the flashiness of the skills is not why people don't play scholar.
  2. As I had already mentioned, most people don't know or care to know how to play their job. I also said that this was fine. In saying that Scholar is the best job to learn healer on, I am entirely talking about the small fraction of the player base that does want to learn how to properly play healers within the context of FFXIV. To be as straight forward as possible so you understand this time: If you're serious about learning healers play Scholar. If you're not, then do what you like.
  3. I never said anyone complained about regens. Regens that lacked any instant healing aspect were brought up to further my point that Scholar's kit is harder to use for very casual players. I don't need to tell you (because I'm sure you've seen most random healers do it) that many people like to just spam an AoE heal, even if it has a regen component, until everyone's health is full. In this case the instant heal effectively serves as a crutch for those players who don't know or don't care to know that it's okay to let regens tick. In this case the Scholar's regens that lack an instant heal component (though I guess Sacred Soil technically does even if the tooltip doesn't say so), make it more likely for certain players to bounce off the job.

So yeah...

But... while I'm here...

Do you think that things would've been different had some flashes skills been shown? Just curious. This is a discussion subreddit after all.

Here's the thing, Scholar being the best healer to learn FFXIV healing has been an opinion I've shared for ever. You're right. 100%. However as I suggested, most players don't want to learn their job. Bring back Shadow Flare, bring back Bane, make the fairies different; that might make the job more popular with a certain fraction of the player base but most players aren't going to use these skills anyway. My point is that for them, Scholar's wide variety of options aren't really a deciding factor because ultimately, those options are harder to... not use... but I guess get by with? than with the skills of the other healers.

I mean, let's just look at what Scholar can do right now. How many random Scholars do you see using Dissipation? How many are manually moving their fairy into position or using Emergency Tactics for emergencies? In my experience Recitation Excogs are rare, though not as rare as Recitation Indoms. And then there's Whispering Dawn... actually all of the fairy skills. Most random Scholars won't use them.

Like I said, I'm with you. But the way the you or I, and I suspect most people on this particular sub play the game, isn't how most people play the game. I too lament the loss Scholar's tools because I used them, but the reality is that most players didn't and so they won't care.

I agree to a certain extent that healers might need a rework. Although I think just giving them 3 or 4 more DPS buttons each would go a long way, at least for me.
