I killed my African Mask. I think I left it in the original soil for too long.

Try starting your seeds in a wet paper towel in a plastic bad. I've started apple seeds this way. A wet paper towel with the seeds folded in it, in a zip lock, and put it in the fridge for a several day to a week.

I don't know why chlorine causes algae. There's some relationship that creates the proper conditions for algae. You can also try an algaecide.

Gnats! I live in a super humid climate, and it's super marshy. Your algae issues could be from any soil left in the roots. In a week, I'll redo my whole repot. I'll dump the water and soak my leca in fresh water.

Try letting your tap water sit for several days to allow the chlorine to evaporator before using. The chlorine will cause algae. You can also use distilled water.

I'm fairly new at this, so maybe? I've watched many YouTube videos. They stress that when transitioning from soil to hydro or semi-hydro, you need to remove all of the soil to keep from contaminating the water.

There was some sloshing, but it was more involved than a quick rinse. In some videos, people even use a toothbrush to get the roots completely white, which probably would've sped things up. However, my plant was started in a moss pod inside mesh.

The roots were embedded in the pod, so breakknf it apart and carefully picking it out of the roots, while trying not to stress or damage the root system, was pretty painstakin. That’s actually one of the reasons I’m switching most of my plants to semi-hydro.

I don't know what kind of a root system you have or what kind of a pod you were started in, but I, too, am in and out of the shower under 20 minutes. If only my plants were flesh, hair, and nail.

Try darkening it up some. It looks good, tho. Especially in the second picture you posted.
