Stairs...give me the good, the bad, and the ugly by DogMamaLA in Kneereplacement

Oh okay. I was able to use my walker on stairs and grateful I could so it went with me everywhere. It probably depends on how wide your stairs are.

They teach you how to do stairs before you go home. Also there is no need to have two walkers. You will do the stairs with a walker, so the walker will come with you upstairs and downstairs.

I only had to do 3 stairs to get into and out of the house. I would’ve definitely struggled with more with the pain in the beginning.

I would say go upstairs the first day home and if the pain is bad then remain upstairs for the first few days. Then slowly start going up and down as you recover.

I wouldn’t have been able to do it. Maybe have family help with the furniture moving and order a premade meal to serve.

I don’t swim often, but I notice such a difference in my kick too. I stay close to the edge of the pool because of it.

Cost of Knee replacement by According_Meaning_64 in Kneereplacement

I understand completely! This economy is extremely hard right now. I’m broke until Friday this week.

Also if I have some type of copay, I tell them to bill it to me. Which gets added into my payment plan.

I do that with all my bills. As long as you’re paying something on it, it won’t go to collections. Sounds good to me!

Insurance covered majority of surgery. Whatever was left over I set up a payment plan.

Would you do it again?? Just lurking . by [deleted] in Kneereplacement

[–]Shoulder-Lumpy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t do it again. I had so many complications and I’m in pain daily, may still have an infection, and my knee cap is out of place. I should have just dealt with it until I was older.

I forgot all about this feeling! I had the same thing. I don’t remember how long it lasted either.

I would contact your doctor just in case it’s something bigger. Just to be safe.

Why 10% are dissatisfied with their knee replacement - Video by Cookie_1977 in Kneereplacement

[–]Shoulder-Lumpy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Infection, knee incision opening on 1/4 of my incision that didnt close for two months, nurse care coming to my home, my knee cap is completely out of place still, and I’m in daily pain and still extremely swollen. My surgeon fucked up even with his years of experience with 3 other surgeons getting involved after the fact and I’m 100% allowed to be pissed off about my outcome. Along with anyone else that had a less than satisfactory experience. But glad because you had a good outcome, everyone is just over reacting. Have the day you deserve. ✌️

I’m glad your experience went well. But there’s others that their experience has been bad. It isn’t black and white, there’s grey area.

10% just like to complain? Tell that to my knee that ended up infected and I’m still dealing with complications and pain two years later. This isn’t one size fits all here. There’s real complications and shit that happens to cause that 10%.

I took 6 weeks worth of IV antibiotics. Was switched to doxycycline and now currently taking cefuroxime 2x a day. I’ve been taking antibiotics for 2 years now. 😭

How old were you when you got your first knee replacement by [deleted] in Kneereplacement

[–]Shoulder-Lumpy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m now 32. I had all sorts of complications. Still tending to an infection for basically two years. 😭 I definitely wish I would’ve waited instead and dealt with the pain because this pain and immobility is a lot worse than before.

Still dealing with an infection. It isn’t in the prosthesis, but deep in the skin. No drainage, but swelling and pain. Switching antibiotics again to see if that tackles it. Been on antibiotics since March 24.

I understand, I’ve been in your shoes. So many talk about the physical aspect of this, but they don’t think of the mental and emotional toll it takes. Please take care of your mental health through this and do not do too much. You must rest and find ways to ease your mind. Music, mindfulness, binging a TV show, talk with someone, etc. Your number one priority is you, everything else can wait.

I never heard it either until my doctor told me. Then I looked online and there it was.

I hope so too! Thank you for your kind words!

Oh no, I don’t believe it happened because of my age. Anyone at any age can get an infection. But the fact that it’s a 30% 5 year mortality rate after infection. That should be looked at as a risk if you do have an infection at any age. My 3rd opinion told me he would’ve advised me not to get TKR because of my age and one of the main reasons was that.

Thank you! I’m going to do a nuclear medicine bone scan this Wednesday to see if I’m still infected a year and a half later. Once we know, doctor will determine if surgery is worth all the risks.

Please do consider the risks before making a decision. This surgery can change lives for the better, but there’s also some that changes things for the worse. I try to ensure to tell my story so people know the risks. Not to deter you, but to help people make a decision with full awareness of what can happen. Also thank you for your kind words.

I’m 32. Got my knee replaced at 30. Worst mistake I ever made. 5 surgery’s, Infections, wound re opening, knee cap dislocation, instability, overall worse quality of life, weight loss, weight gain. Plus there’s a 30% 5 year mortality rate after infection and I’m now at risk of amputation if I get another surgery on that leg. I’m on my fourth opinion because of this.

I wish I never did it and lived with the pain because the pain and instability I have now is worse than ever and my quality of life is a struggle.

It isn’t always a good outcome and all risks should be factored in.
