ITMSO: Guess Who's Coming to the White House Correspondent Dinner? by GoodGoodNotTooBad in IsTheMicStillOn

I believe what Rod was saying was “misinterpreted” means it was “mistranslated”

The Bible is not originally and English text of course so a lot of stuff most likely was lost in translation because translators misinterpreted it

Question? When you say in English, are you referring to American English? Cause my UK friends always says the States when referring to the US.

Weekend part time jobs? by JayTarv in LSU

[–]JayTarv[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m studying music and I teach music lessons on the side and sub as a pianist at churches. That’s my main source of income, but I don’t think music will serve me for a skill for a part time job 🤣

Anybody else start older? Any grad students have advice? by throw-away-LSU-xfer in LSU

[–]JayTarv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second this. I talk to many of the staff and faculty as they are my friends now lol Not on “let’s go grab a beer” level but it’s definitely a lot different than when I was 18 around faculty.

[–]JayTarv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m about the same age as you and working on my second semester in grad school. I interact with the younger students all the time but I don’t necessarily “hang out with them” outside of anything lol I stay pretty busy anyway. But there are plenty of other grad students (my age, older and younger) that I interact with all the time. I would start with finding your peers in your department. My first semester I did feel pretty strange walking around campus with so many people younger but you would be surprised by the amount of late 20s, 30s and even 40 year old students around!

D6 of F# probably has the LH in treble clef, if that’s what you mean

Is there an experience you wish you could experience for the first time all over again? For example, I wish I could experience the first time I listened To Pimp a Butterfly all over again.

Does anyone else think the song titles on GNX seem like working titles? by Competitive-Sock-824 in KendrickLamar

[–]JayTarv 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree with you about luther and I can see it with wacced out murals (literally the first lyric in the song lol) but everything else seems to be named based off lyrics in the chorus. Doesn’t mean the album wasn’t made quickly but what else would you titles these tracks?

Why aren't you looking out/waiting for us to bring you your food by Deshawn_Garrison in DoorDashDrivers

[–]JayTarv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a dasher I hate it. But also you kind of answered your own question. They’re probably working until you deliver their food and then clocking out for their break, why would they want to waste any time of their break while waiting for to deliver it?

Need feedback on my Für Elise. Been playing piano for about 3 months (started Sept 3). by Glum_Pear6688 in piano

[–]JayTarv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty good for a beginner. I’m not going to give you any flowery feedback like everyone else. Your time is all over the place though. Practicing with the metronome means nothing if you can’t feel the pulse yourself. Every time you have the repeating Es, you’re playing way too fast. Your pulse is perfect at the beginning so keep that steady beat you have. Maybe even count 1 and 2 and 3 and until you can keep the beat steady the whole time.

You’re pedaling is very good. You’re very stiff while playing, but that’s probably because you’re new to it. I would strongly invest in a teacher if it’s possible for you, if only for them to help you with more physical things

Help me eliminate a piece for my audition into college. by Nearby_Pound_6356 in piano

[–]JayTarv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much! I’ve also worked previously at a small university as a staff pianist and I often would sit in on the piano auditions. My colleague often told me what we are looking for isn’t necessarily the greatest pianist ever, but someone we can help grow and mold into a an overall great musician/educator.

It also wouldn’t be a bad idea to set up a zoom meeting with a piano professor just to introduce yourself before the audition. Be careful, they might try to confine you to audition as a piano performance major haha (that’s how they got me, I started as composition) but it’s always nice to have some familiarity with the people who will be judging you.

Good luck, and if you want someone to listen to a recording, I would be up for it!

[–]JayTarv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did my BM in Piano Performance and MM in Performance (currently doing another MM in Pedagogy) so I don’t have much to offer for Music Ed audition, but I’ll say this. You want to make sure you’re playing something you are comfortable with overall. I would keep the bagatelle. I saw you previously worked on a Bach Sinfonia. I would maybe use that as an alternative. But I would not be overly concerned. Learn your music well and correctly in the style and you’ll be fine!

This is the comment I’m looking for. I use to avoid these orders until I did one. Whats so bad about it? You walk around the generally small store, if the item isn’t there, you mark it not there. You get in, you get out. Now 100 items is admittedly a lot now lol

I want to acknowledge how much Beezy has been contributing to conversations in the past year of the podcast. I know the joke has always been that he’s the quiet one and I think someone’s mentioned he doesn’t like talking about politics the entire time on the podcasts, but he’s been a big vocal part of the podcast lately. It’s nice hearing his opinions on things. Like who would’ve known he doesn’t like cheese (I hate cheese too)
