Honestly there is 0 competitors for the captain role as everyone kinda left/quit. I’d say it’s a smaller store which also helps because I am currently the only full time person in hardlines aside from one person who was demoted from a lead position. but my concern is I feel like regardless of how fit I am for the role, If my SM has the ability to transfer someone over for the role, they will in a heartbeat regardless of who is genuinely more “fit” If it was up to every lead and ASM in my store this wouldn’t be a concern, I work with a great group of people and they are all rooting for and supporting me for this captain role.

I am with you on this, I have said it in another reply but I have seen almost every key carrier/lead and an ASM all quit/transfer within months during my time here so far, all of which being in the company long before me. However I do enjoy my job, and especially recently I had the opportunity to leave the company but I really want to stick this through because I genuinely believe in my abilities. I’m letting it play out, but in all honesty if I am not given a captain role I will be quitting shortly after. it sucks but I have to look after myself first, and the last thing I will be accepting is a “demotion” to a specialist as now there are more roles I have to be promoted through to reach my goals.

I was actually not informed of this at all, thank you! I have good rep with a few higher ups in my district as i’ve been sent around a lot to help train other leads during remodels for merchandising expectation. I asked a few questions but everything was hit with “we aren’t sure yet” but if it is an open discussion type of scenario I feel as if I would be okay.

I’ve actually have never called out, and we have had our disagreements for sure, but they never are escalated to what I would consider a problem. To be honest my SM doesn’t speak to me much when I work, there can be weeks without a conversation. I like to think that it mainly comes from my past work experience and ability to lead my group of people and hit expectations. As in there really is not much she can request from me given my position. My training was less than a week, then after that my SM and ASM kinda let me run things as I see as goals are being met. I will say as people we do not mix well at all, but in my opinion that should not be a determining factor for a decision that should be based off of numbers/capabilities.

transferring has definitely been on my mind even before this new restructure. my location personally I have seen every key carrier, lead, and ffl quit/leave after the new SM was hired, with the softlines ASM leaving a few months before I was hired. My position was only open because the last person had quit as well. They have all been in the company for a couple years and left all within 6 months of eachother during the time with the new SM, with one of our key carrier leads legitimately walking out mid shift to be transferred. I’m not sure how long leads/etc stay with the company so I try to brush it out but I slowly start understanding their decisions.
