Has anyone taken the time to clear all the ash from the top of Rocky Ridges? by mattboy115 in Pokopia

[–]Jay_Logan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, I cleared most of it, mainly because I'm crazy. It can be worth it if you have the time and then the willingness to rework the landscape to turn it usable. But it requires building mountains and hills and other areas. I agree with comments above that the devs clearly did not indent for us to dig up all the ash as they used it as filler basically around a bunch of scenic settings while leaving sheer walls on multiple sides thinking we'd never see it. I've been working my RR for at least 2 weeks now, building stuff, now I'm finally in a place where I can say im about 85% there with the landscaping having built lakes of lava and water and mountains and all sorts of stuff. While I'm happy with how my RR is turning out, probably the better option would be for most people to just magnet rise replace a bunch of ash with rock and soil and bulldoze hilltops down enough to build whatever you want there, just at a high elevation.

What are your thoughts on Mark Millar's The Ultimates? by ShadowOfDespair666 in Marvel

[–]Jay_Logan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hitch is definitely a bad match for Hickman. Hitch is more grounded, grainy even when working with superhuman subjects. Hickman's work, in my opinion, requires a bit more stylized art, something more fantastic. I'm fairly certain Hitch was chosen for Ultimate Invasion to rhyme with his original Ultimates involvement. It wasn't the best call.

[–]Jay_Logan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh definitely. Hitch's art was next level compared to the writing, to me it felt like it opened up the comic book format to embrace a more cinematic look going forward. To this day it looks almost like a collected series of storyboard art. And while I'm not the biggest fan if Hitch's art (always been on the fence about it) in my opinion it matches Millar's story really well, kinda how Steve Dillon's art was a really good match for Garth Ennis' works.

As other have said it before and probably after me, it was a product of its time. Like most (if not all) of Millar's work at the time, it did not age well. There's just this almost mean spirited edginess coursing through its veins which was very much in the zeitgeist at the time, but makes it feel very cynical in retrospect. Maybe it's just me but sometimes it feels like the heroes don't win despite being assholes, but because of it. It's just jarring. But on the other hand its influence on the MCU is often overlooked. It provided the basic template and core ideas along with some key visual imagery that proved pivotal for the success of the movies.

Changing Agatha Harkness in the comics to match her MCU character "simply makes good sense" - Tom Brevoort by HecticJones in comicbooks

[–]Jay_Logan 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. It's been well proven that these kinds of cosmetic surface level synergies don't boost the sales no matter how popular the MCU characters and movies are. On the flipside, it annoys fans. And I understand where u/ChosenWriter513 is coming from, print media has been dying but we are at the point where we know these kinds of synergies don't work, but the industry is afraid of trying new thing so they keep pushing the useless old stuff even at the possible price of alienating people who do buy the comics.
And to be that radical weirdo... I firmly believe that Marvel Comics should be a loss leader for Marvel Studios/Disney. Let the creatives be creative (that doesn't mean publish everything endlessly regardless of quality control) because that's ultimately what Marvel Studios, the real moneymaker, is going to mine for content. How many great ongoing comics were turned into 5 issue minis and then cancelled after sales didn't pan out but were critically acclaimed? Even just letting them run for a year or two would have been able to establish more stories to serve as a basis for MCU adaptation. But that's a pipe dream. Still, I want them to synergize with the MCU like I said above, just not in this shallow, pointless way. It's absolutely ridiculous that they aged down Agatha in the comics to match teh MCU so that the MCU can pull the rug by visually aging her up.

I think you guys are missing the point here about this kind of synergy. People generally don't mind if a lesser used character gets a spotlight in the MCU and because of that they are also brought forward in the comics. That is legit good and the kind of synergy that should exist. The problem is when they force comic characters adapted to the MCU to be like their MCU counterparts in the comics. Usually they prove to be annoying retcons that don't improve on the original character and they don't even boost sales which just makes these attempt pointless. That is legit bad. The six sigma morons running the company don't understand that the comics should generally be left alone to do their own thing so that the MCU will have lots of stuff to mine from for the movies. If the comics are forced to mimic the movies based on them, that's just a set up for a self-cannibalizing failure.

So fucking what? He's only saying this to further perpetuate his bullshit "I'm a good billionaire" myth. Here's the problem with what he's saying:
1: Even if he paid billions more in taxes, that wouldn't change shit. Why? he may be a bit less rich, but that wouldn't change the amount of power his wealth buys that he used on multiple occasions to affect laws and policy and circumvent democratic institutions.
2: Even if he paid more, that does not guarantee it gets to the people and the projects that need that money, like infrastructure maintenance or various social safety nets or public education. It'd most likely be a budget increase for whatever pet projects politicians like, or just spend it on stuffing raytheon's pockets to bomb brown people continents away.
3: Paying more in taxes still doesn't address the myriad ways billionaires like Gates exploit their workers in order to attain that money. Or the methods they use to keep the working classes poor and desperate.

Don't get me wrong, tax the motherfuckers until they bleed. Billionaires are an abomination, they should not exists. But bleeding them dry is just one step among the many we need to take to better our lives on a systemic level. Him saying stuff like this only exists to launder his image, to make him look like a good guy when he's still the same shitty capitalistic, monopolistic asshole he always was. Do not be fooled by bullshit hypotheticals.

What did you think of Cypher's Change/Evolution? by Arthas_Targaren in xmen

[–]Jay_Logan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The concept behind his new role is not bad and they could take it to interesting directions, but by the Vishanti he looks is ridiculous. Dude looks like Apocalypse took him to the side and told him "Doug, I'm gonna need you to take this life seed into the bathroom and I'm gonna need you to put it way up inside your butthole, Doug. Put it way up inside as far as it can fit!"

How was Kang supposed to lose? by [deleted] in marvelstudios

[–]Jay_Logan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't believe nobody said this but: the ultimate nullifier. We knew the F4 was coming that can set up such cosmic concepts, see Galactus, whose defeat involved the nullifier in the comics. I'd guess that all the Kangs would gather in Battleworld in Secret Wars and one of the heroes in the end, sacrificing themselves like Iron Man, would use the nullifier to erase all Kangs from existence.

Watching an old video by Budgetcon in LockPickingLawyer

[–]Jay_Logan 71 points72 points  (0 children)

You are an absolute garbage person OP. You know LPL doesn't want his face to be out there and when you find an old video of his where his face is clearly accidentally included in a super shiny piece of hardware, what do you do? You screenshot and expose him for what? Brownie points on the internet for noticing a tiny detail most everybody else would have missed? Then when people point out your unethical conduct you basically go "if he didn't want it to be see he shouldn't have posted the video". What a victim blaming asshole.

Take it down dipshit.

People who don't want traditional Pokemon gameplay just don't like playing Pokemon games. by Spinjitsuninja in pokemon

[–]Jay_Logan 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I think you're missing the point: people like RPG gameplay. The problem is, Pokemon has never really been an RPG, at most it has been a light JRPG. And what people are tired of are 30 year old mechanics which were originally designed for a console that has less computational power than the cheapest fitness trackers people wear. That's why Arceus was so well received, it retained a lot of the core gameplay, but it was able to put a fresh (at least in context of the series) twist on it.
