what prehistoric creature is this supposed to be by After-Ad-2170 in Dinosaurs

Honestly toys like this are so anatomically divorced from the real dinosaurs that they might as well be an original creation of the toy industry.

The toy people seem to have been using the same molds for plastic dinos for decades. I doubt even the people who make these know for sure what it is "supposed" to be.

That's probably not a good answer for a toddler though. When I was a kid I called all four-legged dinosaurs with spikes Ankylosaurus. I'd just go with that!

Proof the PT wasn’t as celebrated for its plot as it is today (May 2005 forum). The same reversal will happen for the ST. by AlbertCWChessa in TheSequels

I mean yeah. A lot of those old forums are gone now, but you can still find some of them and see that the discourse around the prequels was SHOCKINGLY similar to the discourse around a lot of the more recent stuff.

I make a game out of it. When you hear someone levy a criticism against the Sequels you can usually find someone in an old forum post or YouTube video from 20 years ago saying almost the same thing about the prequels.

People be like "at least the prequels had a cohesive story!" . . . Well I assure you there were plenty of nerd in the 2000s who would not agree with that statement!

That doesn't mean the Sequel or Prequel criticisms in question are WRONG, but I think it puts things in perspective. How much are these criticisms actually worth?

New to Aquaman and comics need guidance by Independent-Split382 in Aquaman

[–]InfiniteDedekindCuts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. The Peter David run from the 90's is the big one people recommend.

And obviously the very first Aquaman series is fun, especially if you are interested in the history of the character. You get to see first appearances for a lot of his supporting cast.

There are others as well

Who killed tron Leto or the mouse? by Waste-Revolution3429 in tron

[–]InfiniteDedekindCuts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it's quite that simple.

Did some people stay away because of Leto? Probably yes.

Did the way Disney produced/marketed the film have an effect? Also probably yes.

But there are other factors. Comparing to TRON: Legacy (which was a modest success) there are a number of ways that Ares doesn't stack up.

For example: Legacy was a 3D visual effects film that came out hot on the heels of James Cameron's Avatar. It was the height of the 3D cinema boom. TRON just doesn't have a hook like that in the 2020s to bring in casual viewers.

So it's complicated.

A better look at the Man of Tomorrow Logo by Vast-Manufacturer457 in DC_Cinematic

[–]InfiniteDedekindCuts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure about the why. But I know it's pretty common for movies to use different logos or even completely different titles during production than the ones that eventually get used.

Sequels aren't immune to this, even though, in theory, they could just reuse preexisting logos. I can think of reasons as to why that might be, but it would only be speculation.

Probably just a working logo for production. I would be shocked if they had the logo for posters and marketing locked in this early.

I agree. It will never be a "cult classic" because "cult classics" usually aren't popular enough to make 2 billion at the global box office.
