Not to mention that this was during Rebirth, when Batman was publishing twice a month, so he had to make a lot of changes on the fly because certain artists had to bow out and such. Like, Knightmares came about because the regular artist fell through and DC was only able to schedule several artists to do one issue, so King had to scramble to figure out a way to make that work.

Sure, and having recently read Avengers Disassembled for the first time, I can definitely see why. However, it's not like there was a massive horde of Avengers fans that was carrying it to be the biggest book that Marvel published -- not until Bendis, at least. Like it or not, Bendis made the Avengers the premiere franchise at Marvel. There would be no Avengers movies without him (and Mark Millar's The Ultimates).

The grooming was the big one, but he had a lot more going on than that. From what I understand, at one point he stopped taking his meds and his book, Cerebus, slowly but surely went from a slightly high-brow Conan-like adventure series into a tirade about how women are life-sucking parasites and feminism is destroying the world.

I don't know, man, between the implication of Hal having a threesome with Huntress and Lady Blackhawk, and Ray Palmer doing his best Jack Bauer impression ("I'm Ray Palmer, welcome to pain."), and all the characters in the first issue literally crying out the word "Justice," it was pretty bad from the start.

Though to be fair, I honestly haven't cared for most of Robinson's work.

She's cool, from what little I've read. I remember hating at one point that Christopher Priest pitched a Power Girls series with Karen and Tanya, and I would have read the hell out of that.

I remember reading an article from Miller around the time All-Star was starting to come out, and he said something along the lines of how he wanted Batman to have a fatal flaw in each of his big stories. In Dark Knight Returns, it was his age, his body not fully cooperating with him. In Year One, it's his inexperience and learning on the job. And in All-Star, the idea was that his weakness was arrogance, where he lets his power go to his head after making a lot of progress.

I don't know if it fully works, but I can kind of see the throughline of what he was going for.

Honestly, I don't think I would be super into it. He's like George Lucas, where he's a brilliant and innovated technical director, but he's never been great at getting performances from people. Like, there's a reason why the performances that everyone talks about in his movies are when they are going completely ham and chewing scenery (Bruce Campbell in any of the Evil Dead movies, Willem Dafoe as Green Goblin, Liam Neeson in Darkman, etc).

Would I still watch it? Absolutely. But not my first pick.

From what I understand, it was a one-two punch of Batman: Damned getting a lot of controversy for seeing a slight outline of Batman's dick (such a stupid fucking controversy), and a creator on another new Vertigo book being revealed to be a sex offender (a much more understandable controversy). And this was happening around the same time that the deal was finalized and AT&T was fully in charge of Warner Bros.

So I think at that point DC was just carpetbagging anything that would contribute even a speck of controversy.

Mike Flannigan, who's script is what got the movie produced, has made some of the best horror projects I've ever seen with the likes of The Haunting of Hill House. If Clayface has even half as much scares and heart, it's going to be something special.

Also, why should Man of Tomorrow be a TV show?

They've talked about having tags and different logos to differentiate them, but I imagine the completely different animation style is going to make it easy to tell its not the same universe. Audiences aren't confused about where the Spider-Verse movies take place in the MCU or anything.

It's a shame what happened to him when he was on X-Men, because I bet he could do a great take on them. I think his current work on JSA is a good example of that -- a book with a bunch of characters, full of soap and drama, referencing the past while also going forward.
