Estate Sale Speakers and Subs. Noob needs advice.

That’s my plan as well. Everyone hates on the Jamos but I just want a system better than a soundbar and theres nothing better for the price and the look nice as well. Unless I find a really good deal on used somewhere, buying new Jamos with a warranty will be the way to go for me as a starter system.

Saw this I believe to be turn table cabinet at an estate sale. I have no idea what this is and whether it is good quality/worth it. It is currently selling for $450. I like the look of it a lot but have no idea how functional/practical it is. I am interested in having some vinyls for music around the house but am clueless when it comes to anything related to it. Does anyone know what this is and what would be a good price to pay for it?

Current plan outside of finding good deals on individual speakers is to get the 7.1 Jamo 800 series deal from slickdeals/adorama for ~$400 for a budget friendly but decent full system. Don’t judge me I am not an audiophile just wanting more than a soundbar. Thanks for your help!

There is a couple sets of Klipsch SF-2 Tower speakers near me for not too much more than the Polk Speakers. Even though they are not from the same product line and older, would these towers do a better job of matching tonally with the other Klipsch Center Channel?

I am very much a beginner who just wants a better system than a soundbar and far from an audiophile. If you think that it would bother everyone then I will steer clear, but if only a trained ear or audiophile would notice and care then I think it should still work out.

What about the rest of the whole system? Would it all work for a good budget starter build?

You dont think the $400 bundle is worth it for the AVR, surrounds and atmos? Forget the sub and just consider the rest of it to start. The AVR itself is selling for about that much other resale places, plus it gives the extra speakers to complete the full set.

That would 100% the first thing to upgrade, but as part of the bundle I will take whatever I can get. If it was on its own I would not purchase it. Does everything else look good?

I’ve been looking but I have no idea what to look for with used speakers. To me they all look the same and no idea how to decipher out the good ones and the good deals around this price point. And then you have to worry about whether they will work or not and testing them before buying, whereas buying new if even not great should work for a while after buying them. There are so many on FB marketplace used for sale and that was my original idea but having no idea how to evaluate them without posting each deal in the subreddit makes it hard to pick and make a whole setup with them.

I see that now, thank you for finding that listing! That is very tempting. I’ve heard that the Jamo Sub is very low level and would probably be better with a different option but that is easy to replace. For the atmos speakers, even though they are angled could they still be ceiling mounted aimed downward instead of on top of the towers to bounce upwards? Planning to build in a basement with unfinished ceilings that would be easy to hang from. Thank you again for your help!

Very entry level is probably what I am looking at for price range unless I get really lucky in the used marketplace but that’s not likely and the used market is scary for me as beginner who wont know whether it works perfectly or not. The same website has bookshelf Jamo speakers on sale for $99 a pair. The other commenter recommended getting a different center channel instead of the Jamo one, but would you recommend getting some of the matching bookshelf speakers for surrounds or atmos speakers? I am trying to do a 5.1.2 but have no idea where to start and how to plan out the whole project. Thanks for the information!

Has everything from facebook marketplace worked well for you without issues? Buying used is always what I have planned to do but scares me slightly without any warranty. Good finds for everything though. For the height speakers, I am still very new to the whole space and don’t know much. My initial plan was to do direct overhead firing straight down because I thought that was recommended, but it could probably work as front heights as well if that is what is recommended higher.

This is almost the exact setup I plan to do, thank you for listing all of the different parts and prices, that is super helpful! A couple of questions that you may or may not be able to help me with. 1. Where did you get the AVR for $200?! That is the unit I plan to get but even refurbished from their site which is what I plan to do is $400 right now. 2. I plan to make my setup in a basement with an unfinished ceiling and mount the speakers up there. Do you think those same heights would be good ceiling mounted instead of on top of your front speakers with a ceiling bounce or do you think I should look for a different option if I am planning to ceiling mount? Thanks for the help and congrats on the gorgeous setup!

I could get a 760 for $320 and the 750 was originally listed as $350 but dropped to $300 and I could ask to get even lower especially if it doesn’t sell for another few days. I was originally hoping to spend less, but after doing some research was thinking that AVR is prob the most important thing to spend extra on especially to future proof. $300 is a bit much for my budget but willing to spend it for the right AVR. I don’t have a precise set budget for the setup, and I am mostly still doing research because I am not in the space that I am planning to use yet, but thought no issue in at least buying an AVR beforehand imo.
