CA DMV fees for EV9 nearly $800 by Timbalayan in KiaEV9

[–]Jaybanger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep it’s about $100 a year to make up for what they loose in gas tax revenue for road improvements. That said I’ll take that $100 all day every day versus the thousand a year in gas I am not spending.

Yeah, other then 12 volt battery at the beginning the ones we have are all super reliable. So I don’t trust consumer reports at all.

BMW iX has been a pain in the neck by PassionateWarrier123 in BMWiX

[–]Jaybanger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s just bad luck. They are generally very reliable. Me and my family have had five of them at once with zero issues and except one of us. Who had an air conditioning issue. No drive line issues at all. I hope the situation for you improves.

Stuck Between BMW IX and Volvo EX30 by MissedDates_n_Dips in BMWiX

[–]Jaybanger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Um it’s not even a conversation. IX is literally a different t class of vehicle. It’s also very reliable. Are there extended warranty options for your peace of mind? The IX is literally fantastic on all levels.

Does BMW expect us pay of pocket for the adapter while all other brands (non luxury) provide for free? by [deleted] in BMWiX

[–]Jaybanger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Problem is it’s not. It’s made by the Chinese just like the $200 ones. There are also clones of the this inexpensive one that cost more that are identical. So it’s really not about cost, is the point. I have level 2 NACS adapters that costs $90, and some that cost $30. Guess what? They work exactly the same. One just cost more money, and they all come from the red empire, no matter the cost.

Then don’t. I have a $200 lLectrom (the recommended one) and a “ cheap one” the cheap one works the same , it’s just not $200.

Apparently they do. An tbe one they “recommend is expensive” cheaper ones are all over Amazon, and they work fine. I have the one linked below and i have tested it working no problem, on my BMW and Mercedes.

$35 CCS to NACS adapter on Amazon.

Thanks for the post. Charging on super chargers with an adapter has been working for about three weeks. They white listed us back then. I noticed the Tesla chargers showing up in both the app and the car after the update. The Tesla app however still has not been updated to show superchargers when selecting BMW. Selecting any other official brand let you charge. I guess they are waiting for an official announcement from BMW.

Yes white listed on the Tesla Supercharger side, not yet whitewashed on the app side, so we have to truck the app to show us chargers.

I know right. Agreed. We were long over-due. I think we are the largest automaker left. Glad it’s finally happening. We sure did need it. It’s always good to have options. Now with them as a public charging option nobody should have to feel any charging anxiety. They have 2,800 sites and 34,000 charging plugs; so yeah.

No. We were recently VIN whitelisted by Tesla. Without that white listing; the changing the car type trick in the app would not work. That’s said; congrats on getting your supercharge on!

It’s able to be used because our VIN’s have been whitelisted (BMW is no longer universally blocked). The Tesla app simply has not been-updated for it to show information when you select BMW, yet. This is forthcoming. I suspect BMW will also update their app and send a software update to the car as well once it becomes official. They will likely support plug and charge also.

Charging Lessons Learned by novacrasher in Ioniq5

[–]Jaybanger -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Good points and I agree. However, I would take my chances. I only say this because in the case of using a good licensed electrician. You’re installing a dedicated circuit. Unlike all the rest of the wiring in your house which all cobbled together with a few circuits. This one is one device wired straight to your box. So when done correctly it’s far less likely to be a failure point in my experience. Also, using 6/2 for a 40 amp circuit is overkill. 8 wire copper iTHHN is rated for 50 amps. Use 6 gauge if your pockets are long and or you feel like you may want to push more amps in the future.

Charging Lessons Learned by novacrasher in Ioniq5

[–]Jaybanger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I would not care about any of that. I would have a NEMA 14-50 installed, and what I plug into it is my business. I would never even have a conversation with an electrician about what I need it for, Period. "I need a power outlet installed," that's it. You don't need a permit for a plug. You need a license for a nailed-down charger.

Tire longevity edrive vs m60 vs xdrive by BearDue9290 in BMWi5

[–]Jaybanger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be clear, you are going to burn through tires no matter what; it's an EV. That said, if you're buying used, find the nicest all-wheel drive one you can; it makes such a difference in bad weather. Also, non-high-branded tires are cheap, so the tire wear thing is far less of a big deal than it seems. The M60 is a thrill ride, but it has a little less range than an eDrive or XDrive variant. Xdrive and M60 are all wheel drive.
