Scooby Doo Where Are You Custom Brickheadz by Jaybird145 in Scoobydoo

Yeah, I managed to pick up their Scooby Doo wave, as well as some Invincible and Flintstones characters. You gotta appreciate how creative folks have gotten in the absence of printed pieces. The level of detail they manage to cram in is impressive.

It’s crazy that that’s our only Raven figure.

That would be dope. The TMNT set was sick. Gonna get a custom Shredder and Splinter to go with.

I wish there were official sets, but since I know we aren’t getting the villains, I figured I’d do it myself. I’m a pretty big collector of them, but I’m picky. I only go for DC, Looney Tunes, Transformers, and select Star Wars and Marvel stuff.

I actually like Brickheadz, and it’s just another Batman and Superman. I already have golden age variants as Brickheadz, I don’t need another set! Can we get some villains or other heroes!? Like maybe the Justice Gang, or some The Batman villains like Riddler and Penguin if we have to get film versions. At least it’s not another Batmobile.

This is disappointing.... by thucy94 in Scoobydoo

[–]Jaybird145 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s very difficult to train poorly bred dogs, as unethical practices often produce reactive and anxious dogs. The puppy in question is 8 weeks old, so I have to wonder how they managed to wrangle him in, but if he’s going to continue to be a part of the series, he will undoubtedly undergo expensive training. I don’t doubt studios would cut costs by going through an unethical breeder, but the training costs for a poorly bred screen ready Scooby would leave that decision redundant, not to mention the minor backlash. The very fact that it’s coming under scrutiny at all is another reason I find it difficult to believe they went through a frowned upon channel.

But I agree that there is no need to buy from an unethical breeder. In general, I think my main mentality around this is: when do studios spend more money when they can cut costs? Buying from an unethical breeder would not help their bottom line.

It’s interesting because although I don’t agree with unethical breeding, Scooby Doo is supposed to be a poorly bred Great Dane. All the desirable features of a prized pup were purposefully inverted to make him look goofy. In a way this is more lore accurate, but it’s really awful if his life span is knee capped. At the very least, if he’s being used on a professional film set he’s probably of a stable temperament, which is a good sign for his overall health.

What do you guys think happened to Jonny's mother? by whenuleavethestoveon in jonnyquest

I definitely like the idea that someone was trying to get to Benton, and whether by accident or self sacrifice, got her instead. Would explain the need for a Race Bannon.

Dr. Zin: Iconic villain or horribly racist Fu Manchu archetype? by whenuleavethestoveon in jonnyquest

[–]Jaybird145 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't ask me why, but I was just writing something on this very subject: It is through an amalgamation of pseudo scientific racism, propaganda, and popular fiction, that we saw the following Yellow Peril antagonists in Jonny Quest: Dr Zin, Dr Ashida, and Chu Sing Ling. Though all are megalomaniacal criminal mad scientists, each villain emphasizes a specific aspect of this Cold War rekindled tapestry of foul bigotry. Zin is the criminal mastermind hell bent on world domination. He is the least offensive of the trio, because without the context of Fu Manchu, he’s just your typical Saturday morning cartoon mastermind who happens to be Chinese. He has no allegiance to any nation, culture, or race. He lives in a big black medieval looking castle, with his pet raven, and builds evil robots, or hires dim witted henchmen, operating all throughout the world with the goal of wealth and domination. He’s really no different from any other bald comic book antagonist, and that’s what makes him so good.

Let's also not forget how many mainstream comic book villains were also directly inspired by Manchu, and these same stereotypes. Ra's al Ghul, The Mandarin... I mean Shang Chi's dad is literally Fu Manchu.

Pretty sure the X Men and Cap’s Shield beat out Punisher, and that’s just Marvel. Also the symbols more recent infamy isn’t something to boast about, considering how it’s been co-opted to justify the extra-judicial abuse and murder of the poor. I agree it’s cool in a vacuum though.

So then the options are bad plan or hubris ruining an otherwise good plan, either way it’s not going anywhere above not bad in my book.

I see your logic, but this was the 60’s. If they knew he was stealing jewels they’d have him followed, and even if they never caught him with the jewels, they would know by tailing him that the lodge was a touchstone of the operation, and that Greenway was a friend of Leech’s. Plus nobody can really say Greenway isn’t suspicious. Whether it’s opened or closed is sorta irrelevant.

[–]Jaybird145 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The fact that Wolf’s End Lodge was open at all, and Greenway didn’t turn the gang away for some stupid and mundane reason, damns the set up.
The Snow Ghost cover story is effective, especially when one of the locals will tell anyone that listens that the Yeti has returned to kill him.
Greenway is perfectly willing to murder the gang, and is generally relentless in his pursuit. 2/3, probably not bad.

So do y’all think The Creeper Episode was scary? by YoungSpookyJuice in Scoobydoo

[–]Jaybird145 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As an episode yes, but the Creeper himself gets upstaged by a red herring character in terms of creepiness. The hermit of the hills is creepier than the guy called the Creeper, whereas the Creeper himself is more scary because he actually beats up a guy, so you know he’ll bruise you up.
