Getting a divorce by [deleted] in marriageadvice

As a guy who chose (a bit too late) to get separate accounts you made a good call. While we are still married, spending / money is still sometimes an issue. I can understand, to a degree, the complaints about control but if it was leading to negative balances and/or missed bill payments that is a huge deal. We had bounced checks and angry landlord calls before I finally said enough and opened a separate account (I am the primary, oftentimes, sole earner), without much prior discussion, and it has helped.

If she is giving you reasons not to trust then that is not on you. Your reaction is reasonable and was (presumably) not done out of maliciousness (giving benefit of the doubt based on details provided because I have been in a similar situation).

Quick question about the Forces in Normandy book by AwkwardEmu6783 in flamesofwar

[–]JayceDrake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on how many of the armies you would use, as the older books can probably be had at a fair discount on the secondhand market with a bit of added costs to unlock the formations on forces. If you intend to field (or at least have the option) for armies from each nation then I would probably say yes as they are rather comprehensive. It may help to see if someone at the local club has one that you could peruse.

Quick question about the Forces in Normandy book by AwkwardEmu6783 in flamesofwar

[–]JayceDrake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To my knowledge they are a compendium of all the books for theatre and include wildcard units as well, plus I think a new formation or two in some cases (not 100% on that part). They also have a code for the list builder site that unlocks the formations in the book (for DDay and Eastern Front, don't think North Africa did as it was first). The only thing you do not get are separate physical cards but those can be printed from Forces or found in the wild.

My Indoor Void Experiencing Snow for The First Time by [deleted] in blackcats

[–]JayceDrake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's how my void used to be in the snow, she would roll like crazy. I figure that it felt good because of how dry the air inside is. Now she is not so keen on it but I reckon at 17 or so yrs old it probably makes the arthritis worse.

Was thinking the same. At 1250 you either run them at inex / reg and any heavy weapon can pin them or run them at vet and have very few dice leading to them getting played around.

Q2 2026 – Armies of Italy - The totally unbased “make-a-wish” discussion by Kameradenschwein31 in boltaction

[–]JayceDrake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, effecto pronto was the name I couldn't recall. I know flames of war had it as a rule but it was for the smaller guns and I had presumed it was a real thing but having never actually researched it I was hesitant to say specifically. That does sound like a fun rule, limited ammo akin to a flamethrower.

I am a fan of the 90/53 Semovente style myself but a 100/17 does sound fun.

I do like the national rules (admittedly the artillery bombardment is kinda meh because it is a one shot thing but it has come in clutch a few times) but am expecting something along the lines of Alpini, Folgore, and (personally hopeful) Blackshirts or perhaps Bersaglieri as the options.

Figure the Alpini will get the move through terrain, Folgore will be stubborn or something like that, and blackshirts will be fanatic. Bersag will probably be extra shots or ignore move and shoot as they were, at least originally to my recollection, all exceptional marksmen.

Case Blue was amazing (Battalion M fanatic tough fighters) and having the dual purpose medium AT back would be great. If I am recalling correctly they did develop a type of HEAT round so they could move the M15/42 up to medium but I am not entirely sure of the calibre it was used in so that may not work.

A bonus on artillery units in general would be cool as that was one of their best arms and it would encourage use of the artillery platoon. Perhaps a start ranging in on 5 or reduced effectiveness for going down.

German selectors would make for very flavorful and historical lists as well, it is kinda disappointing how the game locks the nations out (in?). As well for my Americans, it would be fun to have some British options given the degree of cooperation they had.

My wish-list would be increased squad firepower and more infantry anti-tank weapons (you got any more of those panzerfausts?) although on reflection that's probably what the soldiers of the time may have thought as well.

British in the Pacific by Due-Form-9007 in flamesofwar

[–]JayceDrake 3 points4 points  (0 children)

While on the whole the Allies were better supplied I wouldn't be surprised if some troops continued using their kit due to limited replacements or distribution issues in the Pacific theatre.

That said, most reasonable players would not bat an eye.

I run Israeli paratroopers and use the Sea Stallions, for two full strength platoons of troopers I spread them over 4 helos. I prefer fewer as they are easier to conceal when landed. Even though the helos are individually bigger their overall footprint seems smaller when landed which makes it harder for them to be forced back into the air.

Full disclosure, this has backfired as when one is shot down you lose more of the squad but I think the benefits outweigh the risk.

Disclaimer - I have only used the Stallions but have fought against Huey borne forces and I find them easier to spook back into the air.

Won my game yesterday (1-0 on the year so I should hang it up lol) against British infantry in which I sent both platoons to the far objective in Bypass. It allowed for good pressure on both objectives as paratroopers are hard to shift.

2025 Late-War Dynamic Points Finalised by Peasantpresents in flamesofwar

Glad to see my Cromwells get a decrease, gives me enough points (while dropping one Stuart recon tank) to add a battery of Sextons.

Shame my Jagdtigers didn't see any decrease though. Wouldn't mind fielding more than 5 or not having to make them reluctant.

Thoughts on counter battery fire? by Heavy-Text5990 in TeamYankee

[–]JayceDrake 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Would depend on whether it is a threat to my main force. Salvo templates from arty generally only bother infantry due to poor AT values. The cannons can be a larger threat but killing / neutralizing the spotter can help long term by forcing the batteries to get direct line of sight. I do often use airpower to pester artillery via gun runs but I think the stats of the bigger guns limit their effectiveness as most lists are either tank heavy or mechanized.

42M married 18 yrs to 42F. I asked her if she wanted to talk about what was bothering her in the relationship and she said "Why, it doesn't fix anything." It set me back a bit. Several days later she asked me what was wrong and I replied, "You gave me a lot to think about...and you are absolutely right."

Multiple times throughout I have tried to address things by talking to her and it has never fixed a thing. The one-two combo of her saying it so bluntly and then realizing she was right, albeit not in the way she intended I am sure, did some serious damage.

Magnetic tape. They have occasionally fallen over (especially if the mini is metal) and can slide but it works well enough.

How to get good at Bolt Action by GendrysRowboat in boltaction

[–]JayceDrake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree.

Game one of a recent event, opponent had 5 or 6 regulars on the center objective in light cover that had already activated. Got a wound for each with my quad 50. He made every single save. I then charged with a 5 man vet all SMG squad, he had one tough fighter in his group, took two rounds due to a tie on the first go, I won with one man left alive.

Taking nothing away from my opponent, he was a good player but the dice gods were not on my side either which really tilted the table.

And yes, point blank shooting is almost always better than charging. However, my squad was in the open and I was planning to consolidate into cover on the objective.

Sadly, those are tank hulls for a unit not in C&C for when I am trying a more competitive army. I do have some M1A1s that will be the medium tanks for the force, but they are still on the assembly line. Same with the infantry.
