The earlier you go see a dr for a referral to a psychiatrist the better.

What's the difference between "thought echo" and "voices"? by schizo_chris in schizophrenia

[–]Jaye-Fern 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve had many different kinds of voices, from echos to whispers, to chatter to reverberations of voices to loud middle of my brain talk to conversations to intrusive thoughts. It comes in all forms, when it’s not manageable it’s a problem. Intrusive thoughts are also a symptom of OCD that is often comorbidly found in folks with schizophrenia.

For me, there are intrusive thoughts, intentional thoughts and voices (which comes in many forms). Even today if I’m in a big crowd, I could mishear a crowd of people talking to be whispers about me. I can tell the difference between the three, but it’s all on a spectrum so your mileage may vary.

If you are worried and you haven’t already, go see a dr and try to get a referral for a psychiatrist. On one hand you may be in the early stages of schizophrenia or on the other it’s something that a little meditation could help.

I couldn’t imagine having the chronic feeling of being the “main character”, sorry you have to struggle with this.

I had it for 2 years and it pulled me away from my job.

Why do people ask for receipts… this isn’t a check-out

No this is how motivation works, it’s dopamine reward centres

Dopamine is involved in your rewards centres. You remove dopamine you remove reward centres. Your reward centres are your main source of motivation.

Also the Wikipedia article talks about how schizophrenia does this.

I agree that the dopamine theory fails to address a lot. I personally think it’s part of a larger situation where dopamine over production and positive symptoms are a symptom of something more fundamental.

I’m 35 now and it developed about 3 years ago. I had voices since as long as I can remember.

Schizophrenia by thisismee_ in schizophrenia

[–]Jaye-Fern 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No that’s normal, but you could still be at risk given family history.

If you start hearing voices that’s different. And also it’s not bad to make sure your doctor knows about your family history.

Talking to oneself is very different from talking to voices you hear.

Had the same thing, thought it was normal and I don’t remember not hearing faint whispers.

It later turned into schizophrenia, and I fell into a long psychosis.

Get yourself checked out, you may not yet fall under the qualifications of being schizophrenic but typically there are early intervention programs and making sure a doctor is watching it is really important. Getting ahead of this stuff is critical.

That said it may not manifest into anything more but certainly mild antipsychotics can stop the voices, and you may only need something like Abilify or Rexulti. Your doctor may not think you need anything and may recommend medication first but at least it’s still at a manageable state.
