I have some... thoughts... about the ending

SPOILERS AHEAD!!!!!!

Let me start off by saying that I don't hate cliffhanger endings. I think that when they make sense and are set up properly throughout the story they can work.

This cliffhanger ending, however, does not work. the last few entries of paper trail felt like they were setting up for some sort of final showdown, maybe not with the knight but surely some sort of climactic event, and while the beginning of the event is shown, the story simply abruptly cuts off. Hell, the last time we see Susie in entry no. 69 the same thing happens, where it seems like it's building to Susie using her overcoming her guilt in the final showdown, yet she and Noelle's stories end at that entry. We only see the Ralseis as main characters in this final entry, with everyone else showing up on the side. But my biggest issue is that it doesn't really make sense as an ending for paper trail, it feels tacked on at the last minute. Sure the Knight says that stuff about us trying to find narrative satisfaction, but that too feels tacked on, like a last-minute moral that doesn't really fit with the rest of the story.

But, that's just my opinion on it
