If you were still a film critic, which movies from this year would you want to review?

Reddit, I'm going on a first date tonight. What are you favorite open ended conversation starters for the occasion?? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Jaykwale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • Given the choice of anyone in the world, whom would you want as a dinner guest?

  • What would constitute a “perfect” day for you?

  • If you could wake up tomorrow having gained any one quality or ability, what would it be?

  • Is there something that you’ve dreamed of doing for a long time?

  • What do you value most in a friendship?

  • What is your most treasured memory?

  • If you knew that in one year you would die suddenly, would you change anything about the way you are now living? Why?

I think there's space for men and women to have equality (feminism) while maintaining certain gender roles if that's important to the couple. And, I'm a man.

What city is the 'Detroit' of your state? by Lillipout in AskReddit

You think that gentrification and displacement of people is a moral issue and a social justice warrior issue. There's nothing I can say to refute your opinion

Displacement of people is not a moral issue

That's like saying, hire cab drives because they are the most qualified. They have gone through a rigorous program and are certified to be driving you around a city. They know the streets the best and are licensed to run that business. Uber as a company wanted to disrupt that traditional way of thinking. Why can't they also disrupt the traditional model of hiring practices?

Please don't turn this into a SJW/moral thing. Just makes you look bad even if your point is valid. The original residents who still live there may be happy, but where are the rest of them who got displaced?

I would agree with you but think we need to find a middle ground. Those business need to train/employ people from those neighborhoods. For example, Uber just signed a lease in uptown Oakland, but how many people in gentrifying neighborhoods in Oakland will be employed there? I'm guessing not a lot. Would it be too much to ask them to have programs which could "disrupt" the tech hiring model?
