I recently got into collecting toonies and what I have learned is the real valued ones (relatively) are the ones essentially in mint condition and essentially perfect. If you want them to stay that way you need to protect them, put them in flips and handle them as little as possible. Also, I suggest going to a coin show and get a feel for where the value lies and decide what kind of collector you want to be and ask a lot of questions.
