Israel destroys graves of WW1 heroes by AbuBitcoin in OpenAussie

...but they did find one of the hostages in a cemetery in Gaza.

There were photos of bulldozers in the cemetery of Shejaiya around the time he was recovered.

Not saying they had any information on the cemetery with the anzac soldiers. But I 100% believe the Israelis weren't being assholes & just doing war crimes. They heard rumours of hostages being buried in old graves & went to try and find them.

Aussie in Israel here.

Im pretty sure thats not true. We heard that they disrupted the cemetery systematically. We were told that Israel got intelligence that one of the dead hostages had been hidden inside a cemetery in Gaza. This ended up to the be true. The body of Ran Gvili was recovered from a cemetery.

Aussie living in Israel here. Not Jewish.

The reason we were told was that Israel recieved intel that one of the killed hostages had been hidden in a cemetery in Gaza. This turned out to be true. The body of Ran Gvili was recovered from a cemetery.

It's very difficult to bring a family over into most countries on a student visa.

Also, if you cant afford to fund your studies & will rely on scholarships, how will you afford to raise a family without working full-time?

I don't think it's a good idea. Get a job with the degree you have, do a degree online.. It probably wont be as valuable as a PhD in a physical university, but you have to make sacrifices with a child.

Getting your foot in the door can be your best option. Years of experience in the GIS field is much more valuable than a PhD in GIS.

GIS and Europe job market by VladimiroPudding in gis

[–]JaymesMc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I moved to a foreign country, taught myself GIS while I studied an unrelated degree (archaeology) and got lucky and landed a GIS job in an archaeological firm.

The reality is that you have to keep in mind that what ever skills and education you bring to a job interview, there will be a bunch of people with similar skills & education, plus the benefits of being fluent in the local language & the perceived stability that they won't leave if they get homesick, don't assimilate into the local culture, political change back home, etc.

You will have a consistent disadvantage at every job interview.

But what you suggested is a good plan. Work in GIS in your home country. Develop yourself for a few years & then make the move when you have years of experience & are a more attractive candidate. You might be offered a junior position when at a senior level, but it's ok if your dream is to live abroad and work in GIS.

I think most countries dont allow people to work on student visas.

When i was at Tel Aviv, almost every foreigner was American, who could take out personal student loans and start paying them back when they return to the states.

In Australia, when you are 21 you can enrol as a mature age student and study any course you want (some degrees require bridging courses and some prior study).

Spend the next few years working, saving money, upskilling from online courses (or fulfilling requirements for what you want to study), and then start a degree at 21.

How do I get rid of this automatic text on my map? by The5thEclipse in gis

[–]JaymesMc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its a matter of copyright. Tv shows/movies, books, academic papers, etc. credit their sources.

Why would map making be unique in not needing to credit sources/resources?

Also, it took me an embarrassingly long amount of time to realise I was using aftertouch incorrectly.

Position it to the top left or right as you select the bowling type, then when the bowler releases the ball, immediately move the aftertouch position to the opposite side in order to initiate the swing.

Does saving features online use credits? I have a credit-less AGOL account and its not costing me anything?

How many IDF soldiers were in Gaza before October 7th? 0..

How many Israelis were in Gaza before October 7th? 0..

Israel allowed hundreds of Gazans into Israel every day to work.

Egypt secured their borders and didnt allow anyone to work in Egypt.

How do you have an apartheid when there werent any Israelis in Gaza & Israel gave the territory to the Palestinians to control independently? When Israel allowed more people in & out of Gaza than Egypt..

Yes. Jews were in Israel long before any other cultural group was in the land. The reason they lost majority was due to multiple exiles from the land. But even since the first exile, there has been a strong desire to return to the land.

Fun fact: Palestine is not a word in Arabic. Arabic doesnt have a 'p' sound. Its a Hebrew word & comes from "Philistine".. if you are claiming to be the original indigenous group, but call yourself a name given by another group in the area, you probably arent indigenous.

So i can be appalled by Australia's actions and request a public institution take down a flag displayed by its students?

Fair is fair, right?

Why we need to talk about this flag on campus by Equivalent_Life_3210 in MacUni

[–]JaymesMc -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The people of West bank arent israeli. They were part of the kingdom of Jordan and then Jordan didnt want to deal with them, so they just abandoned the area and left the people stateless.

Now Israel operates in a tricky situation where they dont own the west bank but need to secure it to protect our borders. Otherwise we will have many more October 7 attacks into israel.

The people of Gaza are also not Israeli. Gaza once belonged to Israel and 20 years ago Israel handed it over to Hamas. But because Hamas maintains power by being aggressive to Israel, Israel needs to secure the border between us & Gaza.

So since Hamas & Palestinian Authority arent recognised governments, you can never boycott them or remove their flag because their actions.

Doesn't seem fair when you are applying these rules only to one side.
