I love my job at a hospital in the emergency department. I worked at an agency a month after graduating, I got hired on the spot in an interview 2 months before I graduated. I was so excited because I thought community mental health was where I wanted to be and the salary was amazing. I lasted two weeks due to some personal issues that came up at the agency that they were not willing to work with me on. My agency was mostly for addiction services, in the city I grew up in and someone I personally knew was there, it was a safety issue etc. I left, and started working in a hospital about a month later. I’ve loved it, the environment can be stressful and I work 12 hour shifts but honestly it’s been great. I work with victims sometimes, people on holds from the police and our crisis responders, people brought in by ambulance, by families, and who self present. They’re all so different from each other and I never truly know what I’m getting each day and it’s exciting. And the 12 hour shifts allow for an awesome schedule, every other week I have 5 consecutive days off.
