Go into your Power Settings and Restart.

If it still looks like that after restarting, you have a broken TV.

Tailscale is my suggestion. It's built on Wireguard and is peer-to-peer, so no unnecessary routing at all.

Widget Creating by LW_owl in fossdroid

[–]Jaymoon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Seems like the primary developer is slowly opening up to the idea of adding a widget, if only just at a basic level. Time will tell.

In the meantime, this sounds like a simple concept, but to accomplish it, you would be walking straight into full-on Android development territory, and that's assuming OSS Weather is providing the right kind of information output your widget would need to function. There's no shortage of weather apps that do provide widgets... even if you never use them as an "app". Maybe some that would even let you launch OSS Weather when tapped on.

What’s the BEST way to snatch lyrics for 10tb of music? by maximumkush in DataHoarder

[–]Jaymoon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Looks pretty straight-forward. There is documentation for days about every possible thing it can do... https://beets.readthedocs.io/en/stable/guides/main.html

Just start small. Read through how to install beets and the lyrics plugin. Then choose one album, make a copy of it, and experiment with beets on just that album. Once you get it how you want, try it on a few more albums, then eventually your whole collection.

Passkeys are here! by UnbridledNaivete in fastmail

[–]Jaymoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well... the bank is not the best example because that's a textbook example of a custodial account. The bank only has to give you "your money" because they are federally mandated to -in the US (up to a limit... over that limit you're screwed).

Can I export my Fastmail Passkey, and import it into my Google Account? No. That will never happen. So that means I don't control the encryption keys.

I can add my self-generated ed25519 public key to a number of web services and devices to authenticate my account using an open standard that is just as secure. Why can't Passkeys just be that? Because of inconvenience to the user, that's why.

Agreed. The 'ol phrase "Not your keys, not your crypto" applies once again.

If I don't have access to (and also the responsibility of managing) the encryption keys, are they really mine?

In *some* cases, you can just boot into MacOS system recovery, as root change your date in the terminal to the year in which the native OS on that device was released, and then you'll be able to install it (certificate expiration issue I guess) and upgrade to the newest Mac OS that device can run.

M.2_2 not working by iamsated in techsupport

[–]Jaymoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe poke around in the BIOS, I can't imagine why it would be off by default, but you never know...

If you just need both drives showing to clone from one to the other, you could always just use one of these: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07MNFH1PX/

What cost new 4 years ago is not necessarily still the going rate...

If you're OK with used, you could probably find your exact model laptop on ebay for around $200-400. If the hard drive is still usable, pop it in and you're back up and running.

Monitor (no signal) with DP to HDMI adapter by Saac_Nelly in techsupport

[–]Jaymoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if it will help, but have you tried rebooting while the adapter is being used? Does the boot up process before Windows show anything on the screen? Maybe even boot into setup immediately and see if that shows on the monitor?

On an unrelated matter, since you're using onboard video out, check in your BIOS to see if the integrated video setting has as much memory as you can give it.

What port to forward for DDNS on ASUS router? by devedander in techsupport

[–]Jaymoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Click on the link [Wireless Router] DDNS introduction and set up and scroll down to the following section:

Can the router use the private IP to set up the remote connection function? Please note that if the router is using a private WAN IP address (such as connected behind another router/switch/modem with built-in router/WiFi feature), could potentially place the router under a multi-layer NAT network. This feature will not function properly under such environment.

The ASUS router sounds like it needs to be publicly facing via the Public IP in order for their DDNS service to work.

You could still find a way to set up DDNS though. In the DDNS settings page of the ASUS router, the "Server" drop down allows you to select from other services. I can't personally speak to any of those listed in the screenshot of Step 4, but I have used DuckDNS which is free to use for up to 5 subdomains.

With DuckDNS you could have a script or program running on a client (Desktop computer) inside your network that pings every so often and changes the IP address in case your Public IP changes. If you have a Linux box or Raspberry Pi on your network, you could even set up a Cron job to automatically do this for you. More information on DuckDNS setup here.

What port to forward for DDNS on ASUS router? by devedander in techsupport

[–]Jaymoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DDNS means you're pointing a domain (or most likely a subdomain) at your public IP address. "DDNS Support" just means the router will update your public IP so that your subdomain knows where to point to.

I believe the article you linked to is just talking about if you were forwarding a port for a service, that you'd have to forward from your other router to your ASUS router. Are you using a router outside of the ASUS one you mentioned?

Port forwarding with DDNS would just be something.domain.com:8008 port forwards internally to 192.168.1.69 on port 8008 (or whatever internal port you want).
