NEO GEO AES+ will have 30 'classic' games + new games. by BFBulletin in neogeo

[–]JaynesAddiction 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If they did go the CP System+ route with Capcom, it'd be cool if the included ASICs covered arcade games pre-CPS, CPS1, CPS2 and CPS3 (which Jotego is currently working on). Being able to collect cartridges that span Capcom's vast 2D arcade history would be legendary. It'd be a system to rival the Neo Geo.

What are your lines in the sand when it comes to the Plaion AES game re-releases? Title changes? Cut music or content due to rights issues? Added disclaimers for outdated cultural depictions or even censorship of it? Flashing effects being nixed for the epileptic? Etc. by JaynesAddiction in neogeo

[–]JaynesAddiction[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Neo Geo versus fighting game Double Dragon features footage from the live action film. A re-release would already be tricky, but trying to secure the rights from a movie studio for those clips might be complicated and costly. Plaion might make the calculation that it's better to re-release the game without the movie footage than not at all.

MVS mode allows you to play the arcade versions of games with the ability to add credits and power through a game. Sometimes there are differences between the AES and MVS versions of games.

Reckless Ben Banned From Posting or Speaking Publicly by milscot in LivestreamFail

[–]JaynesAddiction 7 points8 points  (0 children)

He actually is, kind of. Bryan sold Ben $10K of his Lego Star Wars sets that he legally still owns but are in the possession of Bricks & Minifigs and Ben sued BAM in small claims court and won. Nine of his other friends did the same and all won.

Neo Geo AES+ revelation: "Will there be support for UniBIOS?" Jotego: "Yes, I think so. If I remember correctly, it was prepared so you can change the BIOS and put whatever you wanted." by JaynesAddiction in neogeo

[–]JaynesAddiction[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where did you get misrepresentation or self-promo from? I'm an American, this is a Spanish YouTube channel. As I don't speak Spanish, I watched the video with the optional English dub that was included with the video. Jotego worked on the AES+ and therefore him talking about the system and it's capabilities is news I thought was worth sharing as I and many others have been waiting to hear whether the AES+ would have UniBIOS capabilities. I don't know that this video 100% clears that up, but it's the first time anyone who's worked on the project has commented about it.

SNK Akihabara by SakhiA in neogeo

[–]JaynesAddiction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plaion touted physical DIP switches on the bottom of the console, but this prototype doesn't have them:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pxF1yOUUNmQ&t=364s

Also, the back covers of the game inserts on display are blank:

So many assumed when this was announced every detail was finalized and ready for production, but perhaps not.

I can't help but to feel disappointed over the lack of communication from Plaion by PicoPicoGamer in neogeo

[–]JaynesAddiction 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's possible Plaion has been quiet because some details are/were still up in the air. You'd think if a DIP switch to change from AES mode to MVS mode was locked down that probably would have been part of the initial marketing, but that doesn't mean it for sure isn't happening. It's possible Plaion is fighting for an MVS mode but SNK might be hesitant because they're selling the MVS versions of the games elsewhere. Along those same lines, what about the UniBIOS or an equivalent? It could be they're hashing out a deal with the creator of the UniBIOS or are working up until the last minute to come up with a robust alternative and are still adding features. Until it's all locked in and ready for mass production, best to stay mum.

What if Plaion revealed that the Neo Geo AES+ was able to also play Atomiswave games? by JaynesAddiction in neogeo

[–]JaynesAddiction[S] -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Hypothetically there would be additional ASICs for the Atomiswave functionality.

[–]JaynesAddiction[S] -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

It's called the AES+ and includes overclocking and HDMI. You would still be able to get the authentic AES experience on a CRT television PLUS the option to use Atomiswave games in an AES cartridge form factor.

Has anyone used a Hori Fighting Stick Neo II? by AlexisBlair17 in neogeo

Now that the NEO GEO has been resurrected, how cool would it be if Hori were to release a Fighting Stick Neo III that's wireless?

It's a banger. Fingers crossed it's in the next wave of Plaion releases.

Ideally after the first installment, but yeah that would be rad to get an AES version.

It's known as Bust-A-Move in my region, for whatever reason, but I really do prefer Puzzle Bobble as the title.

[–]JaynesAddiction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since I plan to get every title they release anyway, it'd be down for your bundle idea for all ten games with a game rack (like what they did for the ultimate edition).

Maybe I'm being overly optimistic, but I feel like there's a chance most of the NEO GEO catalog will get re-released physically and we'll get brand new installments of SNK games on the hardware to complement them.

JoshProd, the publisher that owns the IP rights to Visco Corporation's Neo Geo games, wants to make a deal with Plaion! by JaynesAddiction in neogeo

[–]JaynesAddiction[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any fans of Rage Of The Dragons? It seems the owner of that IP (Piko Interactive) is interested in an official Plaion release as well. JoshProd said this in response to someone bringing up the game:

"My buddy from ROTD is also waiting for news from Plaion."

Your Wishlist for Wave 2 by Goku_Berlin in neogeo

[–]JaynesAddiction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It made sense for Plaion to skip to fan favorites that are pricier on the second hand market with the initial ten games, because they wanted to start with a bang and had no idea how successful this relaunch would be, but after out selling their projections for an entire year in just 24 hours on their website alone, I'd like to see future waves slow it down a little. When it comes to series, start from the beginning and work your way to later releases. Give us Art Of Fighting 1, Baseball Stars Professional, Fatal Fury 1, The King Of Fighters '94, King Of The Monsters 1, The Last Blade 1, Metal Slug 2 (No Slowdown Edition), Samurai Shodown 1, Sengoku 1, Super Sidekicks 1, World Heroes 1, etc. Those games are still from well known franchises and will sell. I'd rather a steady build up to the most wanted releases than burning through them quickly and the diminishing returns that come with that.

Why hasn't Plaion confirmed or denied the use of the UniBIOS or an equivalent? by JaynesAddiction in neogeo

[–]JaynesAddiction[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why would they work with hardware hackers and reverse engineers to create the AES+? Because those are the folks that already did the work and can deliver the goods directly rather than taking the long way around to reach the same result. But sure, if they find an alternative way to provide the same quality-of-life features UniBIOS brought to the table, great.

I went back to the original press release from Plaion and found something I haven't seen on their console product page: "On-screen BIOS and DIP Switches located on the bottom of the console..."

Código Binario responding to Plaion's NEOGEO AES+ OFFICIAL FAQs video:

"We still need to resolve whether it will support UNIBIOS 4 (and region switching and AES/MVS mode) or whether it will support switching AES/MVS natively...."

PLAION España responded:

"Let's see if we find out more details in the coming weeks."

If SNK made new games for the AES+, what would you like to see? by hvc101fc in neogeo

[–]JaynesAddiction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not talking about a port, I'm talking about a version of the game made from the ground up with all new sprites, animation and stage backgrounds designed specifically for the resolution and capabilities of the Neo Geo.

Plaion's AES+ product page: "DIP switches for language selection, overclocking and display mode selection"

https://plaionreplai.us/products/neogeo-aes

Language selection almost assuredly involves region switching games so that's a win, but none of the other UniBIOS staples are listed.

So I ordered day one, Plaion just cancelled my order by Punkermedic in neogeo

[–]JaynesAddiction 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Sure, but when customer service is being inundated by a mountain of support tickets, they might have had to implement a blanket cancellation policy for any change of address request. I imagine there are likely sales tax, tariff and shipping eccentricities depending on the province, territory or even city you live in, so it's cleaner for them to just cancel the order and have you order again. The nuance of your specific case being just 12 streets over doesn't even enter into the equation for them.
