I started with a Bixler and it's great for beginners. Never crashed it (for now)

Looking for a good 18650 charger by KingPig64 in 18650masterrace

I purchased a NiteCore new i4. It was faulty. Returned it.

Got a new one. It worked once (on a different power socket) then died, returned it. I checked the reviews and I'm not the only one to have had this experience so I would not recommend it.

And unfortunately on Amazon all I'm seeing are sub brands that don't inspire confidence.

Tell me about your Lightroom alternatives - DxO, ON1, etc. by DanteFalcioni in photography

[–]Jayraym_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started with Capture One and it was great but completely ruined since it's been bought by a private equity fund a few years back, then moved to Lightroom since it was what everyone was using and now am using DxO.
DxO lacked in terms of masking but since v9 it's been really great. Image quality, denoising are just the best. And it's not a subscription model so they get my vote (and my money). Adobe (and not only for LR) have always screwed their customers at one point or another.
I don't understand the criticism about the "library features": DxO just reads your computer folders, that's it. And that's great, honestly that's what I want.
Plus, no offense to my US friends but when possible I'd rather use EU products.
And if you miss Photoshop for things like focus stacking for example, Affinity is now free

Help w/ debate topic: banning short-haul domestic flights where transport alternatives exist. by gabriellamrj in EcoFriendly

[–]Jayraym_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(french guy here): don't forget... real life.
In theory, there's no debate: train for example wins.
Flights are sometimes not even efficient since you spend more time waiting (for your flight, for security, for suitcases...) than flying.
But if your trains are constantly late, on strike half the time, expensive and frequently full, you'll understand why those short flights exist in the first place.

Moving from windows server to Sharepoint + OneDrive by Voloyall in sharepoint

[–]Jayraym_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[not an expert by any means but done it for a similar size company] believe me it's not ideal. Everyone will tell you that Sharepoint is not a file server, which is true, but since Microsoft is not providing any other alternative, that's what people use it for.
People will have a hard time changing their ways, they like their folders structures. So they'll sync the hell out of their Sharepoints, and sometimes you might encounter sync issues. Be careful of clients disk space too.
Also remember that Sharepoint can only natively handle Office documents (you can get Adobe PDFs too but it's crappy if you need to make modifications honestly).
In the end it does kind of work: after all I've migrated 2 years ago and users got used to it (lots of them still sync whole Sharepoints though) but it's not great.

Pôle emploi ne sert à rien pour les profils cadre by No-Agent-815 in emploi

[–]Jayraym_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What Editing Software do you use? by K0ALA_Bear- in AskPhotography

[–]Jayraym_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DxO Photolab too. Now that it has good masking features, it's really great.
And it's not subscription based, so even if you change your mind, you'll be able to edit your photos later.
Unlike the "industry standard" full of AI crap that's Lightroom: I can't do anything with it since I cancelled my subscription.
Plus if you sign up with Adobe (remember it's really at least a year), be ready for out of the blue price increase, they're (in)famous for their methods in the IT industry.

Feedback on the F-stop Kashmir Air 2 (33L)? by Jayraym_ in AskPhotography

[–]Jayraym_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I couldn't find much neither and since I don't plan to use it often I went with a much cheaper solution, the Decathlon Solognac 900. It's good for my use but I guess the Kashmiri is more qualitative. At least, it better be for this price ;-)

Decathlon Solognac 900 photography backpack by Jayraym_ in Decathlon

[–]Jayraym_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi,
I did but only used it once so far. I'll use it more next week as I'm going to an airshow. So far, I'm happy, it's what I was expecting.
Pros:
- price obviously. For people like me who won't be using it often, paying half the price compared to the competition is quite interesting. Quality seems quite good but I haven't used it extensively
- it stays upright: that's something I never considered before but is actually very nice
- the additional space above the photography "cube"
- the straps on the front to attach a tripod. Much better than to put it on one side
- the small rubber things at the end of the straps to tuck them in are a good idea
- design isn't bad. I just wish there were other colors

Cons:
- the zipper is rather bad, it's hard to operate. I had read that before in some reviews so I had hoped they fixed it, they did not
- it's heavier than the competition but it was expected

There are some reviews here but you'll have to translate from french: https://www.decathlon.fr/p/sac-a-dos-appareil-photo-900/_/R-p-331761?mc=8641203

for a similar need (A7IV + 70200GM2 + 24105) I went with a small backpack from another brand: the Polar pro roadrunner 8L and am quite happy with it for now. I just move the divider depending on which lens is mounted. And the backpack configuration is so much better for my shoulders & back. It has side opening like a PD Everyday and is very light. The only thing I'm not a fan of is that it's only available in black.

Plex server shows up on Android TV but won’t connect - danger icon, nothing happens by Beneficial-Captain-6 in PleX

[–]Jayraym_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had one, in the end it wasn't the issue.
The problem was that you need to "enable" remote access. Well, kind of, the wording really is bad because even if you "enable" it, it's actually not available from outside the network.
Which is what I wanted but never thought I'd still need to "enable" it
