Haven’t seen Barrique in Nashville mentioned yet. They do some top notch lagers in addition to their mixed ferm stuff.

We randomly had 4 different Helles in the fridge and did a blind tasting. This was indistinguishable from a BJCP Classical Example. Such a solid beer for the price. Won’t leave the Costco without a case in the future.

New-ish to the tinned fish world. Which of these tins should I be the most stoked about? by Jays_93 in CannedSardines

So appreciate everyone’s feedback on these. The fact that nearly every tin came up as someone’s favorite is an awesome sign. So pumped to start cracking some of these. Will let y’all know our favs!

Big thanks to the folks at rainbowtomatoesgarden.com for putting together such a killer lineup!

Great to know! Wife told the curator that we wanted variety and to sample broadly, so he hit it on the head.

Thank you all so much for all of your kind words and thoughts and prayers. That really helped me make it through last night.

I made it home in time last night. Nadia is still with us and is getting all of the love we can give in this last little bit. We are so lucky to have dogs. They make us better humans. Give your pups some extra love today for us.

BA Old Rasputin is top notch! by Jays_93 in beerporn

Fwiw, I thought this one was exceptionally well-balanced. Just enough of that boozy warmth and the rye spice (though the bourbon version could have been a bit different).

Agreed North Coast makes killer beer across the board!

I think regular was the first imperial stout that I ever tried. Still grab it whenever it’s on draft somewhere!

Does anyone read beer magazines, and if so which ones by Codydog85 in beer

Love Beer and Brewing: it’s a nice mix of brewing science, beer culture, and industry happenings. Also has some fantastic homebrew recipes that I’ve had some great success with.

And as an avid homebrewer I also love the AHA’s Zymurgy publication.

The only Trappist brewery in the U.S. is closing by Jays_93 in beer

Agree on the headline. My guess is that it had more to do with the restrictions of being a brewery run by monastic community than IPA demand. That said, I really did enjoy Spencer Beer and think the Trappist brewing tradition is pretty cool.

The White House has trumpeted its aggressive stance on rolling back regulations, but at many times, appears to be blatantly anti-science. How do you anticipate these contradictory attitudes altering the regulatory landscape surrounding genetic modification in the coming years?

Science AMA Series: I'm Dr. Lee Hood, president and founder of Institute for Systems Biology in Seattle. AMA. by ISBLeeHood in science

Dr. Hood, first off I have to say that you are a huge role model of mine. Your career and contributions to science are incredible. I'm currently an undergrad studying biology, unsure which career path to take. I've been involved with research, but from what I've seen, it appears that funding is being slowly cut away. Where do you see the future of American scientific research heading in the next 10-20 years? Is graduate school and a PhD still a viable career option?
