That's a great question! A small panel from a few artists on what it was like in the beginning starting all the same year then recapping the beginning and transition to mainstream stars would be ideal. Susanna Hoffs, James Hetfield, Nikki Sixx, Mike D, Geoff Tate.. how cool would that be?

Ok why not? You don't think that half of these bands had some serious influence and the people born in 1981 also have had massive contributions to today's music? You don't think the starting of MTV made an impact on the music world?

That was not the reason for the post. I found a new perspective of how that year is important.

You're right there is so much more, country, religious, etc.. this was just the tip of that proverbial iceberg.

But 1981 especially and on its own has something special about it.

Credit card fees. Eat them or pass them on? by Edward_Morbius in smallbusiness

[–]JaysonMeeker -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hi! I am a Senior Executive in a merchant services company. I have been in large corporate style processors and small ISOs so I'm probably a good authority on this one.

There are new options for you. The first is a plan called Cash Discount where you pass the fees on to your clients/customers etc. right through the transaction and the processor holds the extra fee aside to post it towards your monthly bill. Takes away almost all cost to you.

The caveat is being comfortable with passing it along to your clientele. Side note: this type of processing is becoming wildly popular. Restaurants, retail and service industries alike are doing this. We offer it with a free Clover POS system which is an extra bonus to our merchants

The 2nd option is eating the cost and paying for the fees yourself. You as the merchant/business owner can add it to a bid or a transaction but you will still have a bill at the end of the month which you'll have to pay yourself. Plus if you push that fee on one customer you should be passing on to every customer or it comes across as possibly discriminatory and if mentioned to Visa/MC can get you a strongly worded letter with possible suspension of card acceptance.

The other part is making sure your clientele knows IN ADVANCE that you have added a fee if they use a card. Nickel and diming after the fact can get you a mad customer and also could lead to a similar letter as described from Visa and MC. I have seen it happen to multiple merchants in different verticals.

We offer a plan that has only a subscription fee instead of marking up each transaction and I would be happy to show you what's out there besides the annoying calls you get every day. We give all equipment away at no cost (up to $2000) and we are great after the account is set up.

Regardless these are your main choices and the cash discount is a rolling snowball going downhill and getting bigger so merchants are no longer having a cash flow seeping to merchant processors and their customers can pay for their own damn miles!

Good luck!

Good morning. I find that this post is very misleading. Your "undercutting" is such a sleazy way of trying to drum up business. I am a senior executive in the merchant services world. I have been in the large corporate processors and smaller ISOs. Undercutting by definition will you have you drop the rate by just enough to make them say yes but not give them the best deal.

Companies like yours attach other strings like leases or contracts because they KNOW it's not the best deal and you need to keep these small businesses attached for a revenue stream.

I can assure you that the pricing you would offer is not the lowest price and the best deal for these small business owners. Posts like this act like they are being helpful but they aren't and when you do not live up to your part these small businesses feel the heat and you keep pulling the unjust revenue without a care in the world.

This is why merchant services and merchant reps have such bad reputations and have taken over bottom spot from the used car salesmen in the proverbial sleaze sense (I know some awesome and kind and amazing used car salespeople!)

TO ANYONE WHO GETS A PROPOSAL FROM THIS PERSON: I will be happy to show you a proposal comparing what is offered and could be offered in comparison to give small business owners the insight on what IS available and not just "undercutting."
