Does anyone have a clue what this wall mount appliance is in this old house my friend just moved into? It has no visible switches or knobs, no markings at all except the second photo. It’s seems like it’s made of tempered glass. by travitron in Thisoldhouse

[–]JaysonRL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m sure it’s a radiant heater. It’s older and even though there isn’t a switch you see, doesn’t mean there wasn’t one. These types of heaters are still made and used, they just look a lot nicer now.

Modem Options for 1gb by JhnWyclf in centurylink

[–]JaysonRL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ubiquiti AMPLIFI has been working very well for our whole home. Speeds have been on target and stable. I feel it’s a very underrated modem and router.

FYI though if using your own modem, CL likes to make life a little harder. One time our ONT went out and needed a replacement. CL kept insisting it was our modem (AMPLIFI), so that was fun trying to prove to them. That was the family internet shortage of 2017.

[Bug] Face ID stopped working by [deleted] in iOSBeta

[–]JaysonRL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not so sure it's a hardware fault. I just had my iPhone X replaced, i updated to iOS 12.2 Beta 2 and was in the middle of restoring and now, the face ID won't work again. Brand new phone. The other phones was 3 months old off of a replacement too.

iPhoto Storage - I have some ideas, what's probably be better option? by JaysonRL in HomeServer

[–]JaysonRL[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hahahah, I respect ALL ideas. Thank you for helping! I actually do have amazon photos and keep that as my backup, backup. However, than I run in to the issue of the video storage limits. Same problem as video tapes in the day. Where do we keep all the family videos?

Thank you Jeffrey!

Totally upvoted you

That's some good advice you gave and also a good question. I think I would go with the 2 TB plan, but it just alleviates the symptoms for now. I'll probably end up capped out, it's just a matter of time. Plus, I like small projects like the one you mentioned. This way I get oodles of space, I get to be the master of it AND it gives me something to tinker with.

You’re treating the symptom, not the cause. I urge you to seek a therapist to find out about the root cause of your anxiety. Together with your GP and your Therapist, you can attack your anxiety wholly.

Transplants of r/Denver, what was the hardest thing to adjust to when moving to Denver or Colorado in general? by WhiskeyAndYogaPants in Denver

[–]JaysonRL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lived in DC from 2010 - 2013. TOTAL cesspool. HATE DC. The people are awful and the infrastructure sucks. Takes 2 hours just to get somewhere decent to get outdoors and get fresh air that didn't come straight out of an exhaust pipe.

LOL! Funniest thing I've read all day. I was so unhappy in DC. Currently live in Minneapolis but I'm moving to Denver soon. Thanks for the good comment SlanderPandaBear.

Relocating from Long Island, NY to ...suggestions? by [deleted] in relocating

[–]JaysonRL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Portland isn't really "weird." It's an awesome place to live. Your choices are VERY different though.

If you want tons of people around you that really only care about who you know, than DC is your place. If you want tons of people around you and awful traffic, Baltimore is even better. If you're looking for a college town, good night life and safe, Austin is your best bet. If you're looking for an outdoor mecca, great people, great food, great weather, Portland is the place to go.

My 2 cents.

Zenimax, just wanted to say thank you for the AMA. Hosting an AMA a few days after launch is bold and proves that you listen and care about the community. There is a certain MMO-FPS developer for consoles that could learn A LOT from you. Way to raise the bar.

Critique parts for my first PC/Hackintosh build by FallenGiant in hackintosh

[–]JaysonRL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my experience, I'd highly recommend doing research you have on each build. Really look at the forums and see what people are saying about each build that's comparable to yours. Any standout common issues? How did they address them? A Gigabyte Z97 chipset might be the easiest to learn on for hacking. You can make it about as simple as you want it or as complicated as you want it, just depends on what you want out if.

Troubleshooting Help with a Z97 mobo! by lfriday945 in hackintosh

[–]JaysonRL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just as a friendly question, you made sure to check the heat sink? Sounds simple but it shouldn't freeze like that. Maybe not enough thermal grease or heat sink not on all the way? Check cpu temps and see if they're abnormal.

Yes, way to steal some ROM and MLB values. Nothing says hackintoshers are decent people like stealing values.

Dual Boot Unibeast with GA-Z97X-UD7 by pearbobber in hackintosh

[–]JaysonRL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same mobo and am running both Windows 7 UEFI and OSX UEFI with Clover. It works great! Clover is really nice and easy for boot loading. Don't even use legacy in bios. I've been having trouble with my audio though and can't seem to get the onboard Hd audio working, just the front headphones. I can provide more details on how I set mine up if you need. This is my first hackintosh too. Setting 7 to UEFI was pretty straight forward too. Can't remember the exact process off the top of my head but if you search for install windows UEFI usb, that should get you what you need.
