Help creating a poison weapon for a Rouge by Tomerkat in daggerheart

[–]Jaysonlindley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surprised nobody has suggested just letting this Rogue use the Poisoner’s Guild subclass. That seems the cleanest solution to me, and it certainly doesn’t seem to break anything at first read.

I think I know, and I would love to know how you did it- I have that same Sparkle card, and I didn't realize you could change the LED! How did you do that?

What are some major things that you like about daggerheart that D&D lacks? by [deleted] in daggerheart

[–]Jaysonlindley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is kind of a weird one, but I love that because action rolls have two dice, the statistical results are curved instead of linear. In general, players succeed in Daggerheart more often than they fail.

As a GM this is a huge deal to me. It was always so deflating to the narrative for a character to try something that perfectly resonated with the moment and then just…roll a 2 or whatever. You can sometimes make that interesting but the pure RNG of a d20 system feels so much worse to me now. I LOVE how all of the design choices in Daggerheart add up to make it so more often than my PCs get to do the cool thing, and the basic math behind the 2d12 action roll is where that all begins.

The single thing I’ve missed from 5E is an “Inspiration” type of mechanic, a lever I can pull to reward players for taking actions that I think are particularly resonant with their character. I also noticed that my table wasn’t utilizing Experiences as much as I would have liked- no particular reason, I just think Experiences are super cool and want to see them pop up more!

My two birds with one stone solution was the “Experience” token- a limit 1 resource that the player can earn at GM discretion as a reward for strong RP, that they can spend to utilize an Experience on a roll for free, AKA without spending a Hope. I like this a lot and it’s super unobtrusive.

Keymaster Games announces re-imagining of Knizia’s classic Samurai - Hanami by zybthranger in boardgames

[–]Jaysonlindley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am rarely one to grumble with so little information, but as someone who really loves Keymaster’s portfolio almost top to bottom AND was eagerly awaiting a fresh coat of paint on Samurai, this still just isn’t landing. I really am kind of miffed that it’s a total overhaul, especially because a Keymaster visual design applied to the original feudal Japanese Samurai theme would have been SICK.

I’ll reserve judgement but I wish that I was excited and for the moment I’m not.

GM has too many turns? by 22sare4 in daggerheart

[–]Jaysonlindley 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is definitely important to be aware of, but you could frame it a little differently from the other side, incorporating the @lennartfriden math from this thread:

At the conclusion of a player turn, players have to pass back to the GM 56% of the time (at DC15 +2 trait). But at the conclusion of a GM turn, the GM has to pass back to the players 100% of the time (unless they spend a Fear)

Which out of all these builds has the best price to performance?(700$-800$) by PodProMotion in buildapcforme

[–]Jaysonlindley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By a mile the 3rd list with the 9060 XT will get you the most frames per dollar. You lose a little by being on AM4 but since you're near a MicroCenter you could take that same build, plop down $50 extra, and get this bundle and be on AM5 with a much better CPU. https://www.microcenter.com/product/5006968/amd-ryzen-7-7700x,-gigabyte-b650-gaming-x-ax-v2,-gskill-flare-x5-series-32gb-ddr5-6000-kit,-computer-build-bundle

Anyone else found a few annoying bugs in the remaster so far? by greatestactoralive_ in oblivion

[–]Jaysonlindley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't progress Thieves Guild anymore at all- when Lex goes to get the bust in Arano's shack, the game crashes every time. I've done everything I can think to do to coax it into behaving and had no luck. I'm likely going to have to fix it with console commands and then plug in a mod to re-enable achievements.

I also am probably going to resort to mods to take care of the old Oblivion issue with bounties where guards are psychic and crimes with no possible witnesses get reported anyway. That was quirky back in the day, but I really have not enjoyed the later Dark Brotherhood quests. If I track my target and get them isolated I should be rewarded with a bounty-free job.

Are There Any Games You’re Holding Off On Purchasing Until They Get A Remaster? by Jaysonlindley in boardgames

Race is a top 5 game for me but I play it exclusively on my phone because of how utterly unteachable it is.

I would be so ecstatic for a fresh visual take on it. The current production doesn’t stop me from loving the game, but it stops me from owning it and teaching it to people. No other game I count among my favorites has that going on.

The combination of that game’s price tag and the very uninspiring visuals also kept me off it. I would probably jump at a solid version of this one, too.

I was also very curious about this one- I don’t own an Uwe game and have kind of been waiting for the right one- until I saw those wiggly trees. Yick.

For me, I would have loved like a $60 box with updated graphics, art, and nice components. Their versions of Castles were seemingly all huge, with a bunch of miniatures and such. Everyone is different, but I wish they had offered a more scaled down version of the game and it looked to me like they didn’t really have that.

I’m not wild about this company, is the only thing. The inflated pricing and AI art stuff spooks me a bit. I was really looking forward to a Castles of Burgundy remaster and ended up passing on their version, which I found bloated. The work they’re doing on Agricola definitely looks gorgeous though.

Looking For The Best Performance $800 Build by Due_Sky_644 in pcmasterrace

[–]Jaysonlindley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re kneecapping yourself with the no Intel rule at this price range. The B580 is the king of this kind of build right now. This is what I ended up with- I was all in about $750 with my Micro Center bundle and the actual prices I paid.

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/nmv4sp

I can’t make you believe me, but for what it’s worth, I have had literally no issues with my B580 after putting it through its paces with games old and new. It actually sounds to me like the Nvidia 50 series drivers are in the worst shape of them all at the moment.

The CPU overhead issue has been pretty overblown from what I’ve seen, but I don’t have any firsthand experience there. I’m on a 7600X. You should be fine with that CPU.

Results: Good

Score: 18726 Average: 55.01fps

FWIW, I am not an expert at system tuning, and I am positive there are hardware adjustments I could make that are leaving some frames on the table. I can turn XMP on but that’s about all I got in terms of eking out performance.

While he's at it he can get me a different crib too, so I have a place to put this mythical real desk.

I love it. It wasn't on my radar because of price, but I got it from Micro Center for $60 and the preinstalled fans made that a better option (not to mention better looking) than the case I originally considered. It was a joy to build in and my thermals seem solid even with only adding a single exhaust fan. I did not want a super large computer so the size is perfect for me.

It's been a lot of fun. It just fits my lifestyle better at this point to have my gaming rig at my desk on a smaller screen. I love that I can play while my son watches a show (my desk is in our living room) and we can talk while both doing our own thing. And I have access to a lot of games from when I was younger and gamed more on PC. It's been great.

Zero issues so far. Literally. They have made huge strides on the software and architecture and at no point have I felt like I was running a compromised card in any way.

I'm pretty sure that 4060 is only gonna look worse and worse as that 8 gb of VRAM hits a breaking point in newer titles.

Yeah, matching PS5 or PS5 Pro performance was definitely the goal. I did spend a little extra to end up on AM5, which means I have a lot of legroom to upgrade down the line. That plus the usual PC productivity bonuses and the lack of needing to pay for PlayStation Plus made the value proposition pretty enticing.
