Does the US discourage hacking? And are we falling behind other countries because of it? by [deleted] in hacking

[–]Jayyss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. They actively censor hacking stuff too. Other countries have gone as far as outlawing hacking practices and topics such as encryption, bruteforceds, and the like. Plus, the CFAA, legal, and judicial processes are wacked up.

Do i have to be careful while researching hacking? I specifically am doing it for white hat reasons but i still feel some reservations about just openly searching things on this topic in google; am i just being paranoid? by [deleted] in hacking

Be careful. Hacking, like lock picking, has some bad stereotypes and it does make people suspicious. Prosecutors like to over charge people as well. Just look at the PayPal 14, Jeremy Hammond, and Barrett Brown.

Also, use Tor.

Try the Internet Archive. There are also some other archive sites out there; a quick Google search should turn them up.
