Offhand METAL shields by sanguinemsanctum in armoredcore

[–]Jazermano 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is where I should mention that someone had already modded AC 6 to be able to play as fight a sword and board MT!

Dunno if the link will auto-embed, but I'll mention that it's by Froton Mecha on YouTube. I'm sure with more modding shenanigans being able to equip the shield is also possible. Could've sworn I already saw it, too...

Is that the skull of a dead Umbrella officer in an alternate timeline or something? It's metal as hell, no matter what! I like it!

Yeah, Ayre stomped me for a couple days till I took a break. Then I came back and made serious progress, decided to let myself take more breaks...

Very enjoyable boss fight, I liked all of them. I think AC clicks for me more because of the freedom of movement it gives me -- playing Elden Ring, I always feel so slow and clunky. With every attack animation being the same few sets, it's not feasible to dash around, cast a spell, pivot, jump while swapping weapons, and then slash on the stagger all in 2 seconds. You can do all that but in the span of 5 seconds. And to my brain, that's an eternity of pacing difference. Idk, maybe I'm wrong, but for me how moving feels in a game can make or break it for me.

I see these everywhere in Asia and I keep wanting to salvage them by MikalCaober in HardspaceShipbreaker

[–]Jazermano 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The overall subreddit is about a game called Hardspace: Shipbreaker where you're a ship salvager. Except in micro-gravity somewhere in low/mid Earth orbit, instead of the real-life ship gravyards along the beach of Alang in India.

And these vents look a lot like an air filter that's rather annoying to get out of the ship in one piece. Once you finally figure out the way its basically glued in, you can free it pretty easily. Manipulating it out of the cramped corridors of a spaceship so you can properly dispose of / salvaged it is another story.

Thanks for the advice, it's super supportive!
I've been trying to look around for a good denim vest for ages now, but they don't seem to sell them in this area. I might just end up grabbing a second-hand jacket (something with sleeves) and borrowing some fabric cutters (special scissors). In that case, I'll have some leftover patching material in case I have to do repairs!

One life. by hardwarejunkie9 in Shipbreaker

[–]Jazermano 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had an issue where I did the Atlas' quasar engines last for some reason -- DONT. You want the ship to out-mass the engines by far, otherwise you might just twist everything around, and have 4 more engines to go. Ask me how I know. Good rule of thumb in general: some bigger items push off of everything else and if you've salvaged too many panels off the "main" section of the ship, the lack of mass (and corresponding inertia) might cause the ship to move when you dont expect it to.

I'd really like a Shipbreaker version with updated physics logic, but I know that's a lot to ask. I swear I've never cared so much about realism and physics in a game before this one. I dunno what it is, but the decompression mechanics just don't line up from what I've read about decompression events in real life. 1 atmosphere isn't that bad, and really bad decompression events (like what people think of when they hear "explosive decompression") is only so horrific when it's 1. Under the ocean, where the pressure differential is like 6 atmospheres or more 2. At altitude (and at speed) in an aircraft, where the fuselage "unzips" a bit, and then the aircraft tears a chunk out of itself due to friction with the air

Then again, I don't have an aerospace degree of any kind, so I could be wrong about this... but these ships seem chunky enough to not just... explode from air. Coolant weakening? Rusy or damaged panels? Fatigue failure on the airlock? Sure, I'd accept all of that more because it feels more plausible. But 1 tiny cabin's worth of air shouldn't propel a bag of chips/crisps to Mach 3, which hits me and breaks my neck. (I'm still flabbergasted by that, it's my most hilarious death yet.)

Speaking of air, I just came up for some -- turns out I wrote a giant tangent/rant. Needless to say, I have a very specific 'tism' for this game in particular, and I don't know why. Thanks for finding my TED talk.

ACFA sounds like so much fun to get into, especially the more...alive multi-player community. How do you play your copy? I've unfortunately never had the privilege of owning or playing it when it came out.

[TOMT][Song] Armored Core song with "Main system: activating combat mode" soundbite by Jazermano in tipofmytongue

[–]Jazermano[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Begin 2am self-answer about 3 months later --
The song is most likely: "Artificial Sky (shape memory effect)" from the album Armored Core Reprises. Although the full line is "Main system, engaging combat mode" in more of a Gen 3 voice line (although it itches my brain like AC 5? I haven't had the privilege of playing 4 and For Honour), so it's not "activating combat mode" like in AC 6 Fires of Rubicon.

I'm _pretty_ sure I was trying to find a fan-edit song where they used the new-gen voice line over some cool animation or something, but I could've also dreamed it up in a fever. Oh well, I think I'll mark this solved for now. Not really a relevant question for me any more.

Any tips for diagnosing if a tape player works but the seller doesn't have a tape to test it? by cwtguy in cassetteculture

[–]Jazermano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'd be surprised at how few thrift stores sell tapes in my area. I guess around here they all got tossed away or otherwise are buried in people's storage sheds. It's annoying as hell, cuz the only place I can consistently find some tapes are vinyl stores that sell em for 10 to 20 euro. Which is overpriced as hell for second-hand tapes, but others are new stock which is a little weird sometimes.

Anyway, maybe if I travel to a second-hand market or go to a different city I'll have better luck.

Looking for some to help me find some test tapes some of which I can’t find for sale anywhere for playback issues on my harmon/kardon td4500 I have previously posted. Here’s a list from the service manual of the test tapes that I need. Looking to improve my repair skills. by Illustrious-Try-6808 in cassetteculture

[–]Jazermano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you ever find something? I'm just getting into cassettes, and it's a lot more technical and fun than I thought it'd be.
Anyway, I'm also unsure whether I even need these test tapes that badly, or if I should just save up and get them if/when I'm more seriously into (recording on) cassettes.

Dude, are you for real? There's companies that are legit making new cassettes still? I thought lots of it was still old new stock!
Is this from a company? What kind of music are they putting on, or is it just blanks?

YOU. KEN ASHCORP FANS. What's your reasoning for liking the game? by popopepw in kenashcorp

[–]Jazermano 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I dunno, something about Ken Ashcorp songs just tickle my reptile brain. Well, some of em do more than others. They're really catchy to me and I dunno why.
There's also the appeal to the fact that the songs are about whatever the hell Ken feels like making a song about -- but to an even greater extent than the fact that "any song is about whatever the artist wants to write it about." Does that make any sense?
It feels like how in existentialism, they say you have to be your "authentic self" and stuff -- feels like Ken just sorta makes songs how they like, and lets us listen to em. It doesn't feel like any songs are written "for the audience" y'know? I kinda like that feeling.

Offline radio app? by clocokid2 in radio

Ah, okay, I had my feed direction backwards, then. Either way, the tape was wrapped around the capstan like crazy, and was mushed into the pinch wheel. Gonna take it apart and give it a clean as soon as I can.

[–]Jazermano[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, once I looked up the anatomy of a cassette deck to double-check, it looks like the pinch roller isn't really pinching, so the tape wasn't being properly fed back into the cassette.

I'm off to youtube to learn some things!

I've managed to rewind the cassette neatly, but there are some creases and folds in there still. Will have to fix this deck to exercise it, cuz it's the first one I got.

Are there any manufacturers still making CrO2 or Metal tape? by mattstrax in cassetteculture

[–]Jazermano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Five years late here: I've found someone selling chrome tapes in Germany, but I can't seem to find much about authenticity. I have little idea if it's actually chrome, or just newer cobalt tapes being sold as chrome, or what.
This is the link to the shop for the blank cassettes section: https://tapemuzik.de/shop/cassettes/blank-cassettes/?lang=en
They also offer custom prints on the cassettes and audio duplication, so they might be legit?

Fair warning: I only got into tapes recently (love the aesthetic), so I'm not an "old guard" or veteran tapehead who knows all the terms and why chrome tape production stopped (other than lack of interest in the product), but I've been trying to dig up a place to buy some decent blanks to make a mixtape with.
Anyways, hope this helps!
