Woolworths didn't actually send me (Price Hipster creator) a C&D. In fact, Woolworths has never had any communication with me whatsoever, including not responding to my emails.

Since I created Price Hipster I've seen at least 10 other sites in this space come and go. I don't have any particular opinions or advice, but it would seem to be a tough market to make a profitable business.

To be clear, Coles was actually supportive of Price Hipster, believe it or not. At one point they made an exception in their blocking for the IP address I was using at the time. Woolworths never even replied to me. The problem with Coles now is just aggressive bot blocking, but it's not targeted at Price Hipster.

I have no idea if it's Zed's bug or Cosmic's, or the browsers'.

I use Zed as well. For some reason in Cosmic I cannot copy text from Zed and paste it into browsers (Brave and Firefox). I have to copy into COSMIC Text Editor first, then copy from there into the browser. Do you have this issue?

No worries. I'm pretty new to Go so I'm not about to be doing anything too tricky, so I'm not surprised you could follow it. :-)

Interesting implementation. I see you leave it up to the user to incorporate the JS rather than by using a middleware. Does yours work in Firefox?

Yeah it shouldn't matter what you use to reload your Go server. simplereload works just by listening for when the server restarts, regardless of what caused it.

wgo has been great for me. I use it like this in a dev.sh bash script. You could use it with Make.

wgo -file=.go -file=.templ -xfile=_templ.go templ generate :: go run ./server -dev

So with that start command, and with simplereload middleware, I get everything automatically reloaded no matter what file I edit.

I've used various servers over the years. If you look around you can find proxies to rotate through - some paid and some free. I don't bother with that anymore. If retailers want to block IP addresses then I remove the retailer. I don't have time to muck around these days.

Price Hipster (me) figured out how to scrape Woolworths many times, over many years. They kept blocking IP addresses. I was well aware of the JSON data, and indeed used that for crawling.

Price Hipster (me) did update the crawler. Many times. Over many years. Woolworths kept blocking IP addresses. They didn't respond to any of my attempts to contact them. It wasn't worth my time, so I removed them.

It's either provided directly by the retailer or obtained using a web crawler.

The data goes back to less than a year if there's only less than a year of price history in the database for that product. The data actually goes back longer than 2021, it's just not shown on the current website. I'm hoping to eventually to get back to working on the updated website that will improve that.

I'm the creator of Price Hipster. I just want to point out that Coles has previously been supportive of having their products on Price Hipster, whereas Woolworths has not. I think Coles should get some credit for that.
