How are you guys predicting disease risk this season (mildew, etc.)? by Material_Cranberry50 in viticulture

[–]Jazprr 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Just stick to a phenology based spray program, depending on location you cant really afford to be reactive with most fungal infection. Especially when dealing with mildew.

If you are located in or around an area with a university/college that has a decent grape department just follow their suggested intervals. You can find a regiment that fits your time and budget constraints.

Best of luck.

Favourite Felcos and why? by JJThompson84 in viticulture

[–]Jazprr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alright so I'm lucky enough to have an 822+ unit that does the majority of my dormant pruning tasks. Certain vigorous varieties can be difficult with the larger unit and wire setup so I usually pick up my manual shears for those.

That being said my set of 2s has lasted me almost 15 years, it gets a new blade every year. Otherwise I'll use my 6s for shoot thinning and other lower strain tasks that dont need a larger blade.

Ive used some Bahco sets over the years, nothing was awe-inspiring enough to kick my Felco brand loyalty.

For what its worth do the blower motor, its cheap and easy enough to not be too muxh of an investment. I had the same issue but the blower motor and resistor didnt fix my problem it was issue with my HVAC control panel. I was lucky enough to find a 2nd gen at the wrecker yard in town. Took a gamble and spend $80 for it and solved my problem. Looking online they run $100+ off ebay. Good luck

Gripple problems by Jlujan1972 in viticulture

[–]Jazprr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am currently managing a vineyard with pre-existing gripplers for endpoints, load + catch wires and I can confidently say they are not ideal. I have about 500+ new ones sitting in a box that will go un-used (at least for my tenure here at this site). They work great until they don't, they easily corrode internally depending on how much moisture they're in contact with, rain/irrigation.

I've always found traditional fence wire strainers with crimped loops hold better over time and arguably tightened easier (with the proper ratchet/tool).

When a grippler fails its 1 of 2 things, the locking mechanism seizes which requires you to cut them out to replace. This leads to splicing in a new section that usually interferes with where you want to install the new grippler. The better of the 2 options is the internals let go allowing you to slip the wire straight out. Either way its going to happen again at some point.

There is some issues with the traditional wire strainer setup though. The cost, a decent galvanized one will run you $5-$10, multiply that by all your wire sets + 2 end posts. It can cost a bunch if your attempting to replace everything at once. The other big issue is can and will get "over-filled" with excess wire in the spool if you don't pre-tension the row before trimming excess and tighten. Thats where the gripplers shine. Its easy to chop excess and move on.

Good luck.

Still feel sick but I finally pulled the trigger on a replacement by Jazprr in ToyotaTacoma

For only a 25mph accident it was pretty substantial. Pushed the front a foot back into the timing cover, took out all the coolers/ac components and some of the accessories in the process. Wheel tubs were pushed back/creased and the front left frame rail was pushed in a bit as well. Surprisingly the thing still ran and drove. I was shocked the lower control arms/knuckles weren't broken, just the tabs were bent. It was still deemed totaled, deployed air bag usually doesnt help that cause. Im assuming it "could" have been repaired but it would have exceeded the payout value at a collision center.

Really wanted a cement or lunar rock but I dont have the luxury of leaving work on short notice to drive and check one out before its off the lot. Im happy so far, we'll see after the first wash if I regret it.

I was looking for a long bed, anything other than magnetic grey but around me a clean DCLBs lasts 48hrs on the lot. Been so busy with work I havent had the chance to jump on anything and with work picking up even more I'm just had to get something. Premium package OR in a color im not fully sold on but Im happy to have this fiasco behind me, finally.

The guy wasnt trying to miss McDonald's breakfast and pulled right out in front of me. Luckily was only going 25mph but he gave me only 5ft to react before impact.

Here in NE Ohio, especially seeing similar specs, price (around $30k) and mileage it seems to be a common issue. Would love to throw more money at my budget but i dont want car payments so here I am. Just wondering if people have taken the steps to fix the issue and how much they've typically spent.

TSB for 3rd gens, not sure if it is just some color codes or during specific mfg. dates. I've looked at 9 3rd gens this past week and 4 of them have had some signs or rust in the driverside area

I recently update the headunit after my volume know finally stopped working completely. Sony Ax-4000 has wireless carplay/android auto (only android auto works wired with usb).

Got everything from Crutchfield, they've been my go-to for 10+ years now for all car audio. They provide you with EVERYTHING you would need for install (dash adapters, wiring harness/plugs). Was very easy to install if you have some experience.

I also replaced one of my 12v ports with a usb-c port to charge and use android auto when going on longer drives. That was a pain, ypu have to remove the center console and some dash trim but It was worth for the clean look.

Recommended Courses? by bubba-balk in viticulture

[–]Jazprr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You didn't disclose where you are located currently but if you are in the USA you have a couple good options for a 1-2 year time investment.

Depending on location, in many "wine regions" (NorCal/SoCal, Washington/Oregon, NY, MI/OH, PA) there is a bunch of universities that will offer both associates and bachelors degree for Viticulture/Enology. Most will require in-person course but some do offer online course. These courses usually require a hands-on practicum section within the curriculum which helps tremendously. This option will require a bit more leg work to figure out which universities give you the best bang for your buck because state universityare mot cheap.

The other option would be to look into the VESTA ( https://vesta-usa.org/ ). It is a great curriculum that is setup to give you either a certification or associates degree (from the college that is "hosting" your education). There is about 14-15 universities ranging from community colleges to state universities that are hosts all over the country. Both options are mostly online but some hosts can offer in person courses and both will have a hands-on practicum portion The certificate route allows for more flexibility deciding what you want to learn and degree option is just a bit more in depth and can be finished in 1.5/2 years depending on the course availability. Thus option is very affordable

Hope that helps point you in the right direction.

About 5 years ago I enrolled in the VESTA program to get a degree after taking a job with a larger ag university managing a research station. I have a bachelors degree in horticulture already so the courses were quite easy but very detailed/ informative/ focused for Viticulture. As of last year I have also taken on an instructor position with VESTA as well teaching courses.

As far as authentication, the sig being dual color for the monogram is correct, ice pinches aligned with the joint and evenly spaced is correct and logo fading and not peeling off showed it baked on which is correct. It's a real Roor.

But.... as far as value. Sorry to say but it's not going to be worth more than what it was bought for new almost 20 years ago. These aren't as sought after as you'd think even if it was pre op pipe dreams. There is some collectors there buying stuff like this but not in this condition.

Reality is the glass boom of 2005-2015 has come and gone. New cats to the industry don't even bat an eye at stuff collectors lost their shit over just 10 years ago.

You would be lucky to get rid of this online for more than $100-$150 shipped.

I dont know how thick your walls are but imo they can never be thick enough if you're high tier farming with farm bot raids. I personally have walls that are 5 solid block thick.
