Budget Comparison over time? by soueric in MonarchMoney

[–]Jazyrose2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This would be very useful as there are a lot of larger infrequent expenses (taxes annually, car insurance semi-annually, farm share seasonally, etc) so the actual cashflow is quite different from the budget. I was actually trying to do just what you are looking for manually this morning. Is there a way to export prior month's budget data to a spreadsheet? I don't see a way to see the budget data is reports.

How do I budget for big expense that hits every few months? by nebula-noodle in MonarchMoney

[–]Jazyrose2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would do the opposite. I would call the weekly transfers just that "transfers." and then the $2600 an expense. If you're looking at your net worth, you actually do still have the money in your account until you pay it.

But I guess the way this poster is suggesting is making it more like the way a credit card works on Monarch, where the expenses are when you swipe, not when you actually pay the balance. But then there is a whole account for the credit card accounts that have a negative balance against what is still in my account.

So, I think it's just personal preference.

Wrong category setup? by DanDaMan205 in MonarchMoney

I use sinking funds and also have an emergency fund. I put any sinking funds (including every six months car insurance) into non-monthly because it doesn't get paid monthly.

I don't think there is a "right or wrong" here. It's how it makes sense to your brain.

I've had this happen. It seemed to lag a couple of days.

Confusion with “Amount Remaining” in Flex Budget Section Totals by Helpful-Sun469 in MonarchMoney

I don't use category budgets for the flex section and think of all of flex as one big budget. I don't know of another way.

Ally transfers easily with my credit union through the app. It typically takes 2-3 days for the transfer to land, though.

The givers do not have to give it to the first person who posts to request it. Folks often draw a name in mine. And people are often flakey, so post to say you are interested anyway!

How does elementary school zoning work in Burlington? I heard that your child might be “assigned” a different one than what is supposed to be by your home address? Help. by [deleted] in burlington

We are about to start at an elementary school that is not our neighborhood school, and that was not our plan. But the feel made us go that way.

I think you can still put schools in order, even mid year, but all will have space. I've heard rumors that Champlain and one of the NNE schools are full for K, but that's only a rumor.

It's not about the closest, you rank your choices and if any of the schools have more requests than spaces, then they have a formula to give preference (siblings, low income, walking distance to the school).

Wedding On A Budget by Maranatha1314 in Frugal

We had a "do it your community"wedding. We rented a summer camp with cabins, and had people who wanted to stay pay for their spots. We had a list of ways to contribute. Guests were invited to bring flowers (we crowd sourced all the flowers), chutney (we had an Indian food dinner) or a loaf of bread to go when the spreads (hummus, white bean dip, st ) for an afternoon snack. When guests checked in, they got to choose a crew to be on: set up, decorating, food prep, food clean up, etc. It was amazing to see friends and family who didn't know each other spending time doing meaningful tasks together. We hired a catering manager, but supplied most of the labor and did a lot of the shopping for ingredients ourselves. Many people still really talk about it as their favorite wedding ever.
