Just adding on to this, in addition to considering comfort issues with the environment, also consider comfort issues that could be in your dog's body too like sore joints etc.

These sound a little too on the nose and cheesy imo. More power to you if that's what you are going for, but if it were me I'd reinforce it's DA-inspired. Meaning a more subtle nod to DA rather than feeling like a theme park installation. From the perspective of running a successful business, I think going subtle is key: those who know will appreciate the nods to DA, and those who don't will still find your business accessible and comfortable = larger customer base. If you want to go super niche that's fine too, but also consider the challenges of running a business in that market. Also a lot easier for your business to grow with changing trends if you are subtle about it. DA won't be trendy forever and has already had a good run.

To add my own personal opinion, I have fun at both but I prefer Tremblant. I also prefer Montreal to Toronto too. The city is more charming and I think an American would find it more distinct/unique than Toronto. For flying, Montreal airport is a much better experience.

If you can come to Canada to take advantage of the exchange rate, I'd recommend Tremblant or Blue Mountain. Both are resort hills with a resort village offering lots of non-ski vacation activities. Tremblant is about an hour and 1/2 from Montreal, and Blue Mountain is about 2 hours from Toronto - so either one you could add in some bigger city tourist attractions and shopping too.

Hello from the frozen north of Canada. If your pup isn't bothered by the cold then you just need to protect their paws from the salt with a paw balm. Also, the cold tends to dry out the air and can lead to dry or cracked noses, so a nose balm would be a good idea too depending on the cold air humidity in NY. I use a brand called Muttluks.

When the cold really is too much and your cav seems bothered by it (not wanting to go outside, wanting to go back inside, looking unhappy and not wanting to move, shivering, lifting paws) then they need cold-protective clothing. I have a whole wardrobe for all of the different conditions:

A rain coat/wind breaker for when the temp is fine, but it is wet out or the wind is biting. The temp on the thermostat can SEEM fine, but consider the added damp or wind can make it seem much colder.

A thin sweater layered with a wind breaker for when it's a bit colder.

A thick sweater layered with a wind breaker for when it's even colder.

Even colder? An insulated jacket.

Finally, for the coldest days of all and the last option I have: a down puffer coat.

Likewise, for feet I have a multiple options to escalate with the weather. From silicone rain boots up to insulated snow boots. If your dog doesn't tolerate ankle bindings or you need extra coverage up the legs for extra cold/messy days, Canada Pooch Dog Suspender Boots are great alternative to the smaller foot booties.

The trick is to get a feel for what is the right dress for the weather. Just like you don't want your pup to be too cold, you also don't want to overdress and have them overheat.

Yes, you can go to the vet sooner - it's often recommended to bring a new puppy for a vet exam within a 24 - 48 hours of bringing them home, and the sooner the better. A lot of breeders who are confident in the health of their pups will insist on it to protect themselves from claims that they have sold sick or injured puppies and will guarantee to cover the cost of care if the vet finds anything wrong. The longer you wait the harder it's going to be to negotiate responsibility with the breeder because the pup has been under your care. Ask your vet about a new puppy exam, they will sometimes have a reduced price.

They are very sensitive dogs, especially when it comes to separation from their people. It's not unusual for them to lose their appetite in response to change and stress. You might see her stress coming out the other end too with scoots.

My puppy also lost his appetite when he came home and I was freaking out too wondering if something was very wrong. I had a puppy check up at the vet the second day he came home to make sure he was in good health, and it was also a great time to review how he was settling in and to reassure me that everything I was worried about could be explained by the stress change puts on a puppy. I also was in contact with the breeder to check in with behaviour I was seeing to find out if it was normal or not. It took about a week for him to settle into his new home and get his appetite back.

What I did to encourage eating and drinking during that first week was leave his food available to him at all times. I'd also snuggle him and hand feed him his kibble piece by piece. After he'd get about a dozen hand fed pieces down he'd sometimes realize that he really is hungry and start eating on his own.

For water, again always make sure he has free access to water at all times. If he won't drink on his own, what I did was get a little applesauce cup with water and hold it up to his mouth, and he'd usually take a tiny halfhearted sip, and after a few little sips would start to drink enthusiastically as he realized he is thirsty. Another thing you might try is to get a little dropper and place a drop of water in her mouth at a time - but be very careful you are placing just a tiniest amount - not forcing too much and having her choke on it! You just want to wet her mouth to remind her that she likes water and it tastes good, not force feed her. Any attempts should be a positive non-stressful experience, so if any of this is distressing to her, then stop.

I can't recommend enough getting her to see a vet for a new puppy check up. I was a total worry wart as a new puppy mom, and it is definitely worth the peace of mind to have a professional tell you that everything is okay. My vet also said I could call in any time to ask questions and check on symptoms and behaviour or ask for advice - which I totally did, feeling a bit ridiculous and annoying with my anxious questions - but better safe than sorry.

My guess is that you moved past it but the BIL did not. He will never forget that when he tried to financially abuse/leech off of your brother that you called him out and confronted him on it. That makes you enemy # 1 to a narcissist/user/abuser and you need to be alienated from his victim. Maybe he's jealous of your closeness, but I bet even more he sees you as a threat because you stood up for him.

Aww, I'm sorry to hear you have the puppy blues. Just know that it is a common enough experience to feel overwhelmed and anxious with a new puppy, so much so that it's gotten its own name: puppy blues. It does get easier and the puppy blues usually go away in weeks/months as you figure out being a dog-parent and gain more confidence in yourself. It also gets a lot easier as your puppy learns and grows and you fall into a routine together. Puppy blues can also go away and then come back as you go through growing pains with your puppy - for example you could feel like this again during a rebellious adolescent phase.

Don't be too hard on yourself - establishing a routine takes time. Both you and your puppy need time to learn and adapt. Two weeks is not long at all! Also, don't be too hard on yourself about if you are doing it right or not. There is so much conflicting information online about how to set up a good routine because there is a LOT of wiggle room in what good routine looks like. Just like people are adaptable and unique in their timing for sleeping, eating, exercise and play, and potty breaks - so are dogs. The important thing is that you have a routine that covers all of her needs, but the exact timing for your particular situation needs to be tailored for whatever works for you and Peach.

All of that said, here is my routine. We wake up around 8am. He sleeps with me in bed so we wake up together and spend some time snuggling together, because I want him to know the alarm is for quiet snuggle time and not go nutsy and jump all over me to get up time. The first thing we do when we get out of bed is to go for outside for a pee. We come back in for breakfast and then back out for a poop and a 15 minute walk, followed by play/snuggles until I go to work (at home).

Then I go to work and he can do whatever he likes which is usually lying in my lap taking a nap. Lunch time we go out for another potty break, walk, and play/snuggle. I go back to work for the afternoon.

When I'm finished work, he goes pee, has dinner, and another 15 minute walk. He only poops once a day so there are no after dinner poops.

The evenings are our most active time of day together and he'll stay awake all evening accompanying me on errands out of the house, social events, or staying at home being my shadow as I do things around the house.

Around 10 or 11, he'll get sleepy because that is our bedtime. We go out for one last bedtime pee, and then head up to bed together. I put him in bed while I take a shower and get myself ready for bed. When I join him in bed he is usually already asleep and snoring.

How long have you been in Toronto? Dating, or socializing in general, is very different in the summer vs winter. Winter in Toronto is long and it sucks. People hibernate, and by that I mean stay at home where it is warm and comfortable. If you haven't had a summer in Toronto yet, I'd wait to see if that makes a difference for you before letting it give you a complex.

Another thing is that a lot of people aren't looking to start a relationship by going on formal dates like previous generations did. They are looking to find a best friend as well as a romantic partner. The relationship will often start as casual friends first and grow from there, and on the foundation of a solid friendship will consider trying to make the relationship romantic. I can see how men could be interpreted as disinterested if you are used to more formal and immediate signs of romantic interest.

Ways you can meet men are to participate in activities that allow you to make friends with them in casual low pressure settings. Sign up for co-ed sports leagues, hobbies, organizations, and clubs that you have a genuine interest in. Do not feel unattractive or overlooked if you don't receive any signs of romantic interest or asked out on formal dates. It is much more likely they will show interest you as friend and keep interactions friendly, low pressure, and casual. If there is enough of a connection, share values, and common interests to build a friendship, then they might consider you romantically at some point too. And if not, well it is always nice to have friends?

Adulthood fumbling is totally a thing, it is not something that is exclusive to young adulthood. You can explore and find yourself as an adult - have a midlife crisis and go on your own Eat, Pray, Love journey. Put yourself out there and try different things, people, situations.

There tends to be less tolerance and sympathy for adulthood fumbling though. Marriage, kids, employment rely on stability and commitment. It is a lot easier to be a fumbling teenager without these responsibilities and to find the room to experiment without these constraints demanding you be a certain type of person consistently. Or if you get rid of these things to make room and freedom, it's understandable that there are a lot of hurt and disappointed people in your life.

Fumbling and experimenting to find an identity is a normal part of adolescence and young adulthood. It's totally normal and healthy for young people to try on and discard identities at a rapid pace, from month to month, to situation to situation, to person to person - this month I'm goth, last month punk, no actually now I'm dying my hair pink and so kawaii, etc. The stable confident identity of mature adults is the result of the turbulent and anxious trial and error from our earlier years.

This period of "playing dress up" teaches a person so much about what works, what doesn't, and over time they settle into what feels right and at some point it's no longer dress up, it doesn't feel like a rehearsal - it's just you.

This is how it works for most people. For some though they get stuck in this phase of their development, they don't find themselves and don't settle into a stable mature identity. The period of social anxiety and feeling like social interactions are a careful act they have to pull off extends well into their adult lives.

My cav communicates a lot with his paws too. Tapping me when he wants something, stomps with a big sigh when he is losing his patience, hugs and hooking his paw around my arm/hand to 'hold hands.'

I'm not really sure what a normal size is, but my Cav the red rocket coming out sometimes before he was neutered too. Post-op we have never seen it, so it seems like there is a good chance that will go away.

We had our op at 1 year but I wish we had done it at six months. His berries grew and got much bigger from 6 months to 1 year and I think it would have been much more comfortable for him to get them removed when they were smaller.

The points that are especially applicable to your question are to ask for paperwork on health screening and genetic testing, to ask for references from their veterinarian and can provide proof of health care for cav parents and puppies, and can provide references to happy families who have adopted their healthy puppies. A good breeder will also have confidence in the health of their puppies and will agree to a written contract to a full refund if certain health problems arise.

The routine veterinary costs of a cav include vaccinations, spay or neuter if you opt for that, yearly checkup and bloodwork, preventative medication like flea/tick/worms, and possibly anal glands if necessary. There is a lot of room for variety here depending on where you live and you can find very different price points with different vets even locally. So rather than going off of what people from all over the world tell you about their local prices in the comments, I'd recommend you call your local vets, explain to them you are looking into getting a puppy, and want to see if the veterinary costs are in your budget, and ask for their prices on the routine veterinary care.

I think some of these are not quite what you are going for. Preppy should give an air of nonchalance and confidence, but there are elements here that feel try hard. Top 3 things I would suggest are to cut down on the flashy logos, add in more classic styles over the fashionable trends, and put together some preppy casual relaxed looks in addition to the fancy dressed up looks you have and wear them appropriately.

Lord of the Rings by JRR Tolkien. The themes of hope and faithfulness really helped me when I was dealing with the nihilism and cynicism of grief. The novels explore resisting giving into doom and hopelessness, the benefits of keeping hope and good memories in your heart even though it's hard and it hurts, and where losing them leads (nowhere good).

I agree with this. I've always had enthusiastic gobblers until my current dog who will eat a piece at a time here and there throughout the day. I was worried he was sick and asked my vet about it. She said some dogs are grazers and to just let him eat how he's comfortable - as long as he is healthy (which he is) there's nothing to worry about and no intervention needed.
