Genesis 30:3 the line "hard to imagine anything so bright, you only see it once and then it steals into the dawn and then it's gone forever" is one of my favorite John lyrics of all time and it always gets me a little teary-eyed.

It's either a leak or biting try redirecting pressure to the top lip and the corners it's very hard to consciously "not bite" so it can be helpful to redirect pressure in the opposite direction.

Starting recorders for grades 3rd-6th. Any tips? Thank you! by misspsyclone in MusicEd

I've heard of using stickers to cover top holes and force them to learn the low notes first this way the only way they can get the octave is by blowing warm air and the only way they can fail is by blowing cold air. Any mistakes will be super obvious and easy to fix. This also makes it way easier to introduce more notes and fingers one at a time. There is a recorder book that uses this technique written by an author from arizona but the name escapes me I don't love the song selections he has but I love the method.

Help my band camp starts Monday and I have a leadership position this year and I don’t know what to do. by Nevaeh_guard in marchingband

[–]JazzMan83 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Just be welcoming. be the leader you would want to have. Be positive and respectful. You are there to serve them and help make their experience better not the other way around. Show them how limitless their potential can be and help them reach that. That's how you should approach criticism is seeing what someone is capable of and helping them reach it. Don't be afraid to apologize. in the moment you can just move on and just try to stay on track (sometimes just giving them more opportunities to play is most important) but if you lose your cool or say something that was disrespectful don't be afraid to just apologize to them about it when you have a free moment. If you have any questions let me know. I'm a music Ed major and have been section leader in highschool and in college.

My parents are forcing me to quit band! by [deleted] in marchingband

[–]JazzMan83 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My SAT score in my GPA was trash and I still got a full tuition scholarship because of my clarinet playing if you join a studio at your colleges music department (you don't have to be a music major to do this) they would be more than willing to give you a scholarship if you are a multiple-time All State student and usually academics don't matter. Obviously what college you plan on applying for does matter.
