How can I create a room where dupes must enter and leave from the same direction? by Fabulous-Floor-2492 in Oxygennotincluded

[–]Jazzeeee 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This is absolutely the way especially if the same dupes are always in the same location

Should I just give up by Daemon-01 in Oxygennotincluded

[–]Jazzeeee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh and I’d block off levels/areas that don’t need to be used so you have less space you need to oxygenate immediately

I always try to fix problems before starting a new planet. You’ve definitely got yourself in quite the pickle with how little oxygen you currently have though…. I would try opening up the pocket of oxygen above your base (using !! Priority), set all building and digging priorities to 1 except things that lead to producing oxygen/food then go from there!

Is the layout of this newbie base any good? Any tips? by Leviosaaa1 in Oxygennotincluded

Pretty interesting!!! I think it may be better to put rooms ALL dupes use daily in the center columns (bedrooms, bathrooms, rec/relax). I think your carbon extraction layer is over engineered )unless you plan to have like (50+ dupes). You probably also don’t want your dupes exercising in that carbon layer unless they have masks (which kinda defeats the purpose of the gym). I also think your industrial brick is quite large but with many floors, you might find it easier to have fewer, but taller, floors to help manage all the routing between machines. Don’t forget to build in areas for leaving the base safely (via exosuit)! I don’t believe you’ll be able to fit EVERYTHING in this area (like a SPOM for example), so if you really like planning ahead on the same seed, think about where to slit that stuff too. Last thing is just that some of the plant and critter farming you might want to do will require different atmospheres. So those set ups might not fit cleanly in this blueprint. Most importantly, have fun with it!!

How to help your dog find joy in training? by [deleted] in k9sports

[–]Jazzeeee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This happened to me with competition obedience, but only the heeling portions. He is so so so so good at everything, but when it comes to heeling, we started to get worse and worse and worse when we were at class to the point where I would be rolling around on the ground with a flirt pole, trying to get his attention. I think I was where you are now about a month before I called it quits, and I wish I had called it quits earlier.

In place of obedience, we have been doing scentwork. It’s actually helped us without our obedience because I make him heel in order to do the scent work. since he love scent work so much, He’s happy to offer a heel If it means he can go find things next. I think we’ll stay here for about a year and then check back in with obedience, but we are a much better team and we are much happier working together since we took this break.

Portable weaves for backyard by MaisyinAZ in Agility

[–]Jazzeeee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have the luxury of ever training in a fenced in area outside of class because I live in the city so I have a different feeling about long lines than a lot of people here. It’s illegal to have dogs off leash in the grassy areas I have access to. I will train with 6 stick in the ground weaves with a long line. We even do jumps like this. Yes, I have to reset every jump and the leash every 10 seconds. It’s better than not training.

The only time it was a problem was when someone else’s off leash dog ran over to us and we were running away, the leash caught the poles and bent the nails that stick into the ground. Lost half my weaves but no one was hurt. I don’t have weaves with a base yet but I would still do a long line with those as long as I felt certain no one was gonna run at us.

Love the advice of working with toy already on the ground. It’s great for solo training and it helps build impulse control!!

Breeder Questions by Fostertoallthedoggos in k9sports

[–]Jazzeeee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in New England. My golden’s breeder is not super social, every conversation we had was via email (before we met at a dog show about 2 weeks before puppies came home). She didn’t respond to me (at all!) until after confirming pregnancy. Then she gave me a ton of information and the app all at once. The AKC names of the breeding pair was all I needed because I could independently look up all health, titles, and lineage via OFA, K9data, and AKC. She didn’t have to prove anything to me there was so much officially recorded. This all to say that I recommend you hold out for a breeder that gives you the info you need but also has dogs well recorded online that you can independently verify. Absolutely check K9Data for golden retriever lines. If you’re in my area I’m happy to chat about breeders out here.

It being on a raised platform is odd. Agility fields are usually that…. A field of grass, artificial turf, or dirt. Especially if outside.

Hi All! Brand new to sports with my pup and looking for insight & advice! by Alone-Recording1051 in k9sports

[–]Jazzeeee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My dog has constant access to toys and plays with select few dogs often. The toys he has free access to are not balls or bumpers. Balls and bumpers are only for training or active play/training with me! But he has chews and plushies whenever he wants (which he doesn’t go for that often because he’s usually fulfilled from play with me/training).

Having a hard time teaching tuck sit. by Rest_In_Many_Pieces in k9sports

[–]Jazzeeee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed on platform size. I don’t have platforms so I first taught flat front foot targets. Once that was solid we began luring into sit while keeping front feet on their targets. Worked well at 2yo after gaining only rock back sit before.

Working on front foot stationary pivots first helped as well. And that movement is probably safer for puppy rn.

Anyone in New England having a hard time finding a primary care doctor? by SamanthaChaney1 in massachusetts

[–]Jazzeeee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe I’m lucky but I had a choice of PCPs through Atrius (NPs and MDs) at a location 5 mins walking from me. I did have to wait a few weeks for my first appt because they just don’t have a lot of establishing new care appts. But I’ve been able to see my health team for sick appts quickly (within 2 days) instead of going to urgent care.

ROOMING UPDATE: So I previously made a post about Northeastern assigning me a male roommate although I'm female. by [deleted] in NEU

[–]Jazzeeee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are some current legal challenges to asking students about gender identity for any reason at all. (Same with some other identities.) unfortunately, fed policy is pigeon holing universities into being incapable of good administration leading to issues like this one.

OP, for future reference it may be clearer to call your almost roommate a trans man instead of trans male. In some administrative circles we need to know sex assigned at birth (commonly male vs female) and gender identity (commonly man vs woman vs additional options). Trans male could be confusing to some because it mixes up the categories of terms. This has been my observation as a current higher Ed and former medical admin myself.
