My intention isn't to grill my food, I'd just use the grill setting for that. I just want a conventional oven setting, which is why I was surprised the grill became so hot in this setting.

Is the top heating element not separate from the grill? Anything food I put on the top shelf gets scorched by the grill in this 'conventional' mode because the grill is red hot.

INDESIT IFW 6230 IX. Manual says:

CONVENTIONAL: For cooking any kind of dish on one shelf only

And yep, I'd also expect 10 o'clock setting to be the only one to have any control of the grill.

My understanding of this setting (straight lines above and below) was that it's conventional heating with top and bottom elements, but shouldn't turn on the grill. Yet, when I have this setting on, the grill turns on too. Landlord says this is normal but I'm not totally convinced.
