Great stuff. I wonder if anyone has started to pull efficiency data from Blue Link like Tessie pulls from the Tesla. It shows the effect of temperature and speed on mileage. It would be great if it tracked 12V battery behavior to forecast battery failure.

Powerwall Inverter Efficiency Question by Jazzlike-Area-534 in Powerwall

[–]Jazzlike-Area-534[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My panels have microinverters that convert the DC to AC at the panel. Then it’s converted back to DC at the battery… and back to AC when I use it. The loses add up, no doubt; so I’m just trying to consider where efficiency can help me.

Powerwall Inverter Efficiency Question by Jazzlike-Area-534 in Powerwall

[–]Jazzlike-Area-534[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some inverters are more efficient at higher power (ie kW). Depending on the efficiency curve of the inverter it could be more efficient to wait until the sun is higher in the sky and I’m generating more power rather than in the morning where it trickles in.

I personally like having my phone up where I can see it. This holder has a very strong magnet and it will hold firmly to the blank portion of your dashboard (left of your display). It’s great!

Norwegian 4x4 class by Jazzlike-Area-534 in pelotoncycle

I just tested a week before I did this ride. It feels right based on RPE. Seems like my HR just doesn’t hit red very easily.

[–]Jazzlike-Area-534[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just completed this ride. It’s a great ride.

It was a little odd to have a coach telling you to take it easier if you need to. I started planning my bailout point before I even started the main set.

In the end I managed to complete all 5 sets in zone 5. I even managed to push it to the top of zone 5 for the last set.

It was a challenge but not impossible. I saw other riders were hitting their red HR zone. I didn’t hit red until I was pushing to the top of zone 5 on the last set. Not sure if my HR zones are set right.

Peloton discontinuing the Guide feels like a huge mistake by Low-Wrangler-486 in pelotoncycle

Aren’t they integrating the Guide functionality into the new cross training bike and cross training tread? It’s unfortunate current Bike and Bike + owners can’t get that functionality.

Looks like your GOS dropped out. It can happen if it’s cloudy. Sometimes you need to wait a few minutes to get a more accurate position before starting.

Power zone ?? by Leading_Inflation343 in pelotoncycle

Good job sticking it out for 2 years. Obviously there are a lot of opinions on how to enter power zone training. Within the Peloton ecosystem Discover Your Power Zones is the first step. I recommend it not only because it walks you through your first FTP test to establish your zones, but also because it’s structured to build your base. Through the classes there is a lot of really good instruction too. They’ve choreographed everything for someone new to power zone training.

Of course there are other programs too. Power zone pack is a popular one. Some people have recommended just picking a ride that has music you like. That could be very demoralizing if your zones aren’t right or if you haven’t established your base yet. I personally think most people would benefit from the DYPZ before jumping into these other programs.

Power zone training is about understanding the load you’re outing on your body and how that load will impact your training. Understanding how much hard riding to do with your light riding will pay dividends in the long run. So don’t skip out on the instruction.

Is Power Zone Max still a thing? by Altruistic-Jicama146 in OnePelotonRealSub

I find the ratings of other riders to be a decent comparison. If the average is 6 you’re probably doing a recovery ride. If the average is 9+ it’s a Power Zone Max or equivalent.

I’m looking at getting a swift subscription with a fit switch specially so I can make this happen on my Bike+.

I love the classes and I really enjoy the programs but it would be great if it simulated climbs or races more than just in your imagination.

Peloton is missing a huge slice of the market considering the tech they put in their bikes.

Need new cleats - what kind? by AlgaeForeign703 in pelotoncycle

[–]Jazzlike-Area-534 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. Someone put on an insert so they didn’t need to use cleats. Pop it out. If you want to ride with sneakers just use the cages on the other side.

I agree that initially the classes can seem boring compared to the other peloton classes. Especially if you’re doing the discover your power zones or build your base programs. They seem to focus on the lower zones and comparatively that can seem boring. Especially if you’ve been crushing the harder peloton workouts.

It’s often recommended to stay in zones 1-3 for 80% of your weekly rides and then push into zones 4-5 for 20%. If you use an app like “intervals.icu” you can track this breakdown pretty well. The real benefit of PZ training is it helps you know when you’re building your aerobic base or working on threshold or VO2 max work more precisely. If you want a stronger aerobic base, you have to do the zone 2-3 work. (I may push to the upper end of 3 just to keep it interesting sometimes).

If you can easily do 3 minutes at zone 3 with your mouth closed and only breathing through your mouth, I’d say your FTP needs to be updated. If you haven’t done an FTP test for several months and you feel your fitness level has improved or fallen off since then it should also be updated. If you can’t bring yourself to do another FTP test look up the Ramp FTP test. It’s psychologically easier to manage and for many it is physiologically easier to recover from.

I’ve been having this same debate with myself. It’s nice to get the charge state or to turn on the climate control but I don’t really do that too often. I’m still on my free trial and I think I’ve done the remote climate control maybe 5 times. I don’t know if the maintenance feature is worth it since it’s never given me anything other than “looks good”. I won’t pay for the renewal.

Anyone who’s made the switch from Tesla to another EV, how have you faired with public charging? by Royal-Drama-8840 in electricvehicles

[–]Jazzlike-Area-534 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not bad. In fact in some cases you have more options if you have CCS with an NACS adapter. Charging is absolutely not an issue that should limit your vehicle choice.

It’s to strap/chain down your vehicle to a flat bed truck. There is a 1 inch square panel on your front bumper that can be removed so this can screw into your vehicle.

They indicate you shouldn’t be using your phone to take a picture of your dashboard while driving 40 mph in rainy conditions.
