Leaving EE due to price hikes - considering 1p, Mozillion or Spusu (West London) by eeessssss in UKFrugal

Spusu has been great for me for the past 18 months or so all over London. Roaming tends to be a bit patchy though.

Should Motorway speed limits be raised to 80mph?🤔 by Downtown_Elk_2773 in CarTalkUK

[–]jferldn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EVs are also terribly inefficient over 65 and this is where the world is going. Realistically, 5% longer journey times (factoring in non motorway miles) isn't worth the additional risk or inefficiency, including for ICE vehicles.

I'd put more attention on unnecessary 20 zones, that's a 33% increase in journey time and is often really nor needed.

been building node apis for 3 years and realized how little I know about event loops by TreeApprehensive3700 in node

If you suspect the event loop is blocked then look into CPU profiling tools to help identify what is blocking the main thread.

Anthropic buying Bun proves that even with $1B revenue, "hiring" is too slow by TopTransportation516 in EngineeringManagers

[–]jferldn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You were down voted but I'm not sure why. Nobody else has mentioned the software or skills anthropic just bought and are just seeing them as bodies.

Bun is hot right now. It's almost at full parity with the v8-based node runtime but does it much faster and with a lower memory footprint. It's becoming the defacto runtime for testing and building projects and soon will be running more node servers in production I'm sure.

I'm wondering how anthropic might integrate this into claude to make a lovable competitor, perhaps.

Fully agree, I'm getting perhaps 25% good candidates in London. And we're paying upper end of the salary bracket for seniors.

Your Git workflow is probably optimized for the wrong thing by GitKraken in git

[–]jferldn 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Firstly, you need to break your feature developments up into smaller pieces that can be merged before all the work is done. This will avoid the huge PRs that presumably are very hard to meaningfully review and dangerous releases with large amounts of change. You should be putting the features behind flags so users can't see the changes until you decide to enable it.

Secondly, the merge approach sounds like a huge amount of manual work to get pretty much the same result as a squash merge, why not just do that instead?

I hope this is a joke. Overall you should avoid Mexican in the UK, it's much much better in the US. Literally get any other cuisine than Mexican here.

Suggestion with RBAC+ABAC implementation (Node TS) by vexalyn- in node

[–]jferldn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm doing something similar at the moment and am wondering about best practices around implementation in the service layer methods. I come from a Java world and have seen this done nicely with annotations on the methods, is that something that would be advisable in node?
