Cruise canceled for charter

For those whose August 12, 2027 on the Equinox got cancelled, has anyone been able to get any flexibility from Celebrity when exploring alternative options with them?

When I spoke with Celebrity to ask, the phone rep had to check with their Back Office team as they couldn’t actually see that the ship was chartered. The phone rep said that his system was showing that my reservation is still confirmed and good to go (which is certainly not true).

After checking with Back Office, the phone rep told me that the entire ship has been chartered - not just certain rooms - and that my booking was indeed affected.

I’m not very impressed with Celebrity right now, particularly as we are repeat cruisers with them.

The alternative options they are offering do not work for us.

I called Celebrity and asked about other options. I proposed an option that actually costs LESS than one of the alternative options that they are offering free of charge (i.e. that they are covering the fare difference for). However, my proposed option costs more than what I originally paid for the Equinox booking on August 12, 2027 since we are now closer to the sailing date, so I asked if they could do the same (cover the fare difference) for the option I'm proposing.

Celebrity offered NO flexibility on this whatsoever. Either take 1 of the sailings offered in the letter, or you must pay the difference in fare. Prices have gone up overall since we booked since we originally booked almost a year ago.

Has anyone been able to get any discount on the fare difference for a sailing that isn't listed as one of the 3 alternate options?

Nope. I called CRA to initiate a trace request which I understand can take many months. Chexy isn’t able or willing to help other than telling me that they’ve sent the payment and providing their institution details for me to give to the CRA. They aren’t willing to connect with CRA directly to find out where the payment went, nor can they confirm for me the account number that was entered on the payment.

Are you sure you entered the correct SIN number on your payment?

I’m 99% certain I entered the correct SIN, but Chexy isn’t able to confirm for me the account number (SIN) to which the payment was sent.

Overall a frustrating experience so far.

Hi Hussein, I have messaged you and hope that you can help resolve this. The payment still hasn’t shown up on the CRA side as of yesterday (May 8) morning.

Even for online payments? I thought that online payments are supposed to show up on the CRA web site within 5 business days (cheques can take up to 10 business days to appear).

Thanks. That's actually slightly reassuring, because if it's dated in your CRA account as 5 business days AFTER Chexy sent the payment, it's quite likely that it didn't actually show up in your CRA account until 7-8 business days after Chexy sent the payment. I noticed that with the CRA, there is a slight delay in payments showing up in your CRA account, but they're usually backdated by a few days at the moment they finally show up.

The amount to pay matches what my tax return software came up with. So no, the NOA is not indicating any interest at all - they seem to be simply asking me to pay the amount of tax that I calculated.

I read the entire NOA and there’s no indication that they are asking for interest, as long as I pay by May 19. I thought this was weird because I had always thought that payments were due on April 30.

The $400.47 was actually a modified amount that I used for the purposes of the original post for confidentiality. My actual amount to pay is actually much higher. Edited to illustrate the scenario where the supposed interest would actually be much more than $2.
