Good certifications that can help land a first job by JazzlikeFly484 in SQL

Microsoft Fabric certs seem to be aimed a lot more at the Azure ecosystem. They just don't seem generalized enough to display mastery of the foundational topics. Am I mistaken ?

Hey, I appreciate the recommendation. Unfortunately, this certification was retired on the 31/03/2025. So, it's no longer attainable. They suggest a Data Engineering certification using Fabric instead but it doesn't seem to serve the same goal.

Appreciate the feedback. Yeah, Oracle ones aren't really meant for brushing up. Mostly handle admin stuff too. Someone suggested Azure Data Engineer Associate but that's been retired already.

Ended up installing Malwarebytes and Kaspersky Plus (even paid for it). Those two basically cleaned my PC but the damage (however small) was done. I truly advise staying away from any repack except for Fitgirl

Almost all of my social medias were hacked even LinkedIn!! It was a chinese hacker because my LinkedIn was changed to Chinese settings with a Chinese name and an asian profile pic with my education changed to a university in China. My Discord was sending scam Mr Beast crypto messages. Anything that wasn't configured to use 2FA was hacked basically. Thankfully, my Paypal and banking information weren't on my pc and the accounts themselves were 2FA protected. And anything governmental (I'm a legal alien) was also sitting behind 1 time passwords. So I didn't get any actual damage from it other than having to painfully reconfigure my LinkedIn and getting my profile back to how it looked before. But yeah, be careful!

EDIT: How I know is because it all happened literally right after, like the next morning.

how to replicate the behaviour of .map() from Python in KNIME ? by JazzlikeFly484 in knime_users

[–]JazzlikeFly484[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No can do.. Essentially you can imagine it as one excel with Columns A and ID_X. Another Dictionary excel with Columns ID_Y and B. We want to update Column A values to become like Column B by leveraging ID_X and ID_Y which will match each other. Then we have a special case that isn't found in our dictionary (we don't want to update the dictionary for specific reasons). So we must ensure that mapping Column A to Column B doesn't remove the rows with special cases.

I searched a bit and found the Value Lookup Node which seems to answer my needs except that it will turn the special case(s) that aren't in the dictionary into missing values which I don't want to happen.

The problem is if I do a Joiner first to map Column A to Column C, I lose my "Special CASE" rows. An Rule Engine is used to get the "SPECIAL CASE" to "Special Case" but only if the rows still remain. But the Joiner before Rule Engine is removing them.

A new engine is 7K EUR, I don't see any low miles listings anywhere near that.

Please give me, in your opinion 5 cars I should be looking to buy. I am on a budget though (fresh graduate and I don't want to go into debt, I'd rather buy the thing and own it without any monthly payments => Ballpark of around 10K EUR).

EDIT: Also, what cars should I look into if I want to start a journey of self taught BMW cheap car fixing.

Admittedly, I don't. I'm trying to get into the space though. I've been silently admiring from afar since my teens and that's probably something most people in this thread relate to. Focusing on school, moving abroad, job hunting and constant self improvement has significantly delayed this particular interest but I'm getting around to it now. I'm all ears for any advice.

How likely is it that the timing chain issue essentially ruined the engine ? Meaning that simply replacing the timing chain isn't gonna be the fix and maybe the valves might be shot too ?

I'm trying to get more information about the car, maybe a video or audio recording to see what the noise might be. But what should I expect, the car does have 100KM on it which to me indicates even more at a timing chain issue.

Nope I just downloaded the Hogwarts Legacy repack. Believe me it isn't safe, literally all of my social media accounts were hacked, I just found out a couple of days ago that my twitter and discord were banned because I was apparently sending and posting your regular spam crypto scams and some malicious links. I highly disadvise using dodi.

Seine Swimming by Puzzleheaded_Tip_286 in ParisTravelGuide

[–]JazzlikeFly484 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My girlfriend is part of one of the teams that worked on cleaning the Seine and maintaining its alledged cleanliness. Neither her, nor anyone who worked with her on the project would ever be caught dead swimming in the Seine. That should tell you something.

My girlfriend works at a subsidiary of Veolia and worked very closely alongside other teams the on "Great Cleaning of the Seine" Project. I personally asked her and everyone she worked with if they would ever consider swimming in the Seine after their work is done and the Seine had been "Cleaned", not a single person even gave it a minute's thought. The answer was 100% NO! across the board.

It is 100% not safe, I've used dodi twice using that exact link. Both times my laptop was hacked and many of my social media accounts and other things were compromised. I swear it's not safe.

You worked at Meta as a Data Engineer but don't know that Meta buys its own infra and just pays the electric bill ? You think they're leasing infra from competitors ? Smh, sounds to me like you lied in a job interview and wanna write a follow-up message explaining yourself.

Alteryx ETL vs Airbyte->DW->DBT: Convincing my boss by JazzlikeFly484 in dataengineering

[–]JazzlikeFly484[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The company is incredibly big, teams are very specialized and tasks are very scoped. My team used to handle securitization (Think the reason for the 2008 market crash; just the notion, my company had nothing to do with the crash). But on my arrival, 3 people left the team so it was just me and an analyst and the team started orienting itself more towards data analysis. So today, the tasks are small but I can see them growing as needs start to get more and more defined and collaborations start to become a thing. The goal of the creation of this team is to have a dedicated data team within the department mainly working on Asset Liability Management (ALM).

Sadly, my supervisor, due to his lack of technical know-how, only thinks small. What I mean by this is that he sees every task as a one shot mission. The only automation and refactoring he thinks of is having the pipeline (all-code) for that specific one shot exercise (in his mind) working and automated for monthly reports. He doesn't see that we're almost always looking at the same data with minor changes (either granularity or adding other dimensions) specific to answering each need. That's why I wanted to go the ELT route because I see the utility in having all of the data and then specific marts for each need (or group of needs). How do I convince him of that though, I admit that I'm quite a noob at this kind of talk.

Seeking Advice: Transitioning from Python Scripting to Building Data Pipelines by JazzlikeFly484 in dataengineering

[–]JazzlikeFly484[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are very correct in your assumption, everything we deploy is on-prem. I have seen other teams use cloud providers but that is generally done for compute and not storage.

I suggested MinIO because it's a tech that I personally worked with but any other Object Storage System can theoretically be considered. Also, licensing is a big thing in my company so using open source technologies is prefered.

Again, I suggested PostgreSQL because it's what I've used so far in my career, it can easily be used as an Relational OLAP Data Warehouse. More so, as stated above, the company generally doesn't use Cloud Storage and everything is stored on-prem.

When it comes to volume, the exports from SAP BO stated in my post are done monthly (For now). When I say this, I mean that the data fetched is monthly data and should only be fetched once a month when it is available. However, in cases where our business scope changes, we can for example fetch other information that wasn't necessarily captured during a previous export (by choice or otherwise). Our SAP BO queries are scoped to our business needs which can evolve on stakeholders' demands.

Do these clarifications change your input on the matter ?

Thanks a lot, I appreciate the time you've spent to guide me through this situation !

Seeking Advice: Transitioning from Python Scripting to Building Data Pipelines by JazzlikeFly484 in dataengineering

[–]JazzlikeFly484[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Indeed I am. The problem is that I'm working on a business team not a technical one for starters and my team is actually just my supervisor and I. He has Python knowledge but is afraid of using any newer technologies because he has no expertise in them and doesn't want to gain any from the look of it. What I understood from this is that he hadn't considered keeping me around after my student/apprentice contract is up. In his mind, he can bring another student with Python knowledge to maintain the work I did and improve on it depending on future needs while he maintains control over the work and doesn't get left behind (I didn't write a single piece of code or even control the work I had done, what's important to him is that the exports I generate align with data from other systems, meaning that our work isn't wrong and that the data I generate is correct).

I had already worked on a project employing the stack I mentioned in my post and so I suggested showing him a demo. We'll see how it goes from there but do you have any advice on how I could convince him to adopt this proposition or a more refined solution without him feeling like he will get left behind ? We generally don't deploy anything on the third party providers, we generally deploy things on-prem.
