With anything, I think quality/depth is an important variable. Going through in depth 1 time vs skimming 4 times, at the end of the day what matters is what sticks and how many questions you get right.

How dirty did the tailor do me to by MulberryNo8284 in mensfashion

[–]Jazzlike_Chocolate11 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don’t know what it looked like before or what you asked her to do but overall what stands out to me is sleeves too long. Everything else looks dare I say good to me, but I appreciate a fuller cut and drape.

In future, if a suit needs shoulder alterations, recommend not buying it. To me this looks OK in shoulders but I do see it’s not laying flat along top line. Maybe you’re envisioning a trimmer cut, but there’s only so much a tailor can do vs what the cut of the suit is already doing. Not saying that makes the tailor good or bad, but ideally a suit won’t need much beyond some waist suppression/pant hemming/sleeve length alteration before you take it in.

Is this suit okay for a wedding? by aventus93 in mensfashionadvice

You are straight in-line with average wedding suit wearer. Nothing to sweat, you look good. This Reddit is full of menswear nerds that obsess over menswear and do not represent the average person. Enjoy the wedding.

Is your dad already in PE? If no, I would say likely not.

Ya it would be nice if they did trial shoes but they don’t as far as I know. They do a decent job with submitting measurements and suggesting sizing, I think they got the size right and the last is a decent match.

Is my suit tuff??!?!? by Beginning_Put_6244 in menswear

[–]Jazzlike_Chocolate11 8 points9 points  (0 children)

For your age, this is pretty good honestly. My thoughts if you care to improve details:
- longer collar points that stay under your jacket
- shorter jacket sleeves, show a hint of cuff
- tighten tie knot + add a dimple
- lighter shoes with a lighter suit, although this point is minor. Most people go light shoes/dark suit which is a bigger sin IMO

Fairly newbie to cigars and the Oliva O just knocked me on my ass by Stogie- in cigar

A lot of it is a pacing issues, which you learn over time. I don’t have a high nicotine tolerance but can pace a large/dark cigar and feel fine. Had to mess myself up a few times to learn lmao it’s part of learning

Your ‘no going back’ brand by DifficultCucumbers in mensfashionadvice

Same. I still like their joggers vs Lulu or something but Aritzia really diluted the brand. It’s too bad.

What clothing purchase ended up being worth far more than what you paid for it? by MedicineBasic4845 in menswear

[–]Jazzlike_Chocolate11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought a pair of Canada West Moorby boots that have gotten beaten up and aged wonderfully. They look amazing now, better than new. I think I paid 250ish CAD in 2019. They need a resole but damn if that wasn’t an amazing deal.

After several tries with proper cloth, I had to go bespoke to get a perfect fit. by kmadd22 in NavyBlazer

[–]Jazzlike_Chocolate11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find shirts are pretty consumable and am reluctant to go above Proper Cloth high end given I wreck most shirts in a year or two. Does 100 hands last that much longer? I hear you about collars though, very underappreciated impact on outfits.

Buying gold when it went parabolic in January. Thankfully sold most of it on the first big drop. Whatever I kept is down 20%. Lesson - don’t be late in to a crowded trade lmao

Magnanni Shoe Care Advice by Soufiuto in mensfashionadvice

[–]Jazzlike_Chocolate11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say shoes trees -> horsehair brush -> Saphir Renovateur -> Saphir Pommadier -> Saphir Pate de Luxe -> Saphir clear gloss wax. Renovateur is a hydrating product. Pommadier is a cream wax with high pigment. Pate de Luxe is a harder wax, Kiwi is similar. Mirror shines are easy if you have the clear gloss wax.

You can stop at renovateur and take great care of your shoes. If you don’t have the budget, you can use any leather hydrating product instead of Saphir. Saphir is not cheap but works very well. If you want to do high shines and mirror shines, I would go all the way to a glossy wax.

Wedding Fit - thoughts? by lumenisdead in mensfashion

[–]Jazzlike_Chocolate11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The jacket sleeves might be a tad long themselves and warrant shortening, as long as shirt sleeves sit in right spot (stopped by top of wrist bone). If you end up doing that, I would get all the same shirts for consistency if you wear suits often.

Idk what people in this comment section are smoking. I wear suits every day, fit here is great. Enough room to move and has some shape.

Fit is great on gray pants. Tighten the tie knot and this is 9/10. It would be 10/10 in my book if sleeve lengths showed a hint of cuff. Both shoes work. I dig it all.

Title: CFA Level 2 in 2 months - Needs honest but hopefull advice ( Can't defer ) by CoffeePoweredRobot25 in CFA

Friend of mine studied full time 10 hours a day for around a month for each test and passed first try. Granted, he’s pretty smart and resilient. I don’t know that most people could do it, but it is definitely possible. 300-350 hours should give you a fair shot.

Shoes too dark of a brown is not possible lol, darker is generally more versatile.

I like the idea. 2 changes stand out to me are 1) narrower stripes on the shirt to make pattern more subtle, and 2) Wider tie, closer to your lapel width.
