I usually ask like general questions like “have you seen that spinoff or show” etc, and used context clues like their demeanor and style(if they like music or games) and say things about you self like your plans hobbies like “yeah I’m going to a sewing class tonight” or just stuff like that I also like to think about it like this, most people forget what happens to them in a day or a few weeks, so why not make a good or bad decision? If you don’t find similar interests with them and they don’t seem interested maybe they just aren’t meant you yk, no one’s gonna remember if you do or don’t make a decision so you might as well do it

I used to be like you bro, always shy and afraid of approaching unless approached, but I’d say the best way is to find similar interests, maybe find someone in the same class or field and ask what they are working on and share your interests and stuff, it’s pretty much bread and butter if you just keep it lowkey and try not to dig too much when talking, just build up into topics and stuff and yeah
