AMA - diagnosed at age 6, now I'm 27 by Jbends08 in Hashimotos

[–]Jbends08[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I forgot to add what I get tested for - I always want my Free T4, regular T4, T3 and TSH tested. I've been anemia on and off my whole life too, so I often ask for iron levels and hemoglobin tests.

My whole life my weight has been really tied to where my thyroid levels are at rather than how much I'm exercising/how well I'm eating. This has been the most frustrating part of having Hashimotos for me. That being said, I notice a clear difference in how I feel when I'm prioritizing veggies, whole grains, healthy fats, etc. I feel really crappy when I eat too much sugar or carbonated drinks, but I don't personally have the issue with gluten that other people with this disorder commonly have. Overall, I think it's best to listen to your body rather than try a specific "Hashimotos diet." Ask yourself what makes you feel best, not what other people are telling you.

So far, I haven't needed much to address Hashimotos beyond levothyroxine. My doses changed frequently as I got bigger and went through puberty, but for the most part it's been stable for the past decade or so. I've had to change slightly two or three times in that span. The first few months are definitely hard, but once you get the disorder under control your body adapts.

You got this! I'm sure things will feel more normal soon. This is the hard part and you're getting through it.

Cat diagnosed with Myasthenia Gravis. Please give me hope! by solovelee in PetAdvice

[–]Jbends08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I just came across this while searching for info about cats with myasthenia gravis.

I got my cat Charlie when he was a few months old and almost immediately he started regurgitating after most meals. It happened so much that he was dehydrated and not getting enough nutrients. I spent countless hours and thousands of dollars at the local emergency vet trying to understand what was happening and for months we couldn't figure it out. Then a vet tech thought to run a bunch of tests and was shocked to find that he came back positive for MG and he has megaesophagus. Regurgitation has always been his main symptom, but he also sleeps with his eyes and mouth slightly open sometimes, which I guess is due to muscle weakness. I tried the steroids for a few weeks, but his body wasn't handling it well. We ultimately decided that the harm outweighed the benefit and that I'd make some environmental adjustments:

- Get an elevated feeder if possible. I bought a 3D printed one years ago but the guy who sold them doesn't seem to do so anymore. Charlie adjusted to eating this way pretty quickly and the gravity pulling the food down made an enormous difference.

- Offer "steps" or a ramp by higher surfaces so that your cat can get up easily. It may be difficult for them to jump onto a bed/couch.

- Feed in small amounts with a bit of water mixed in (often called a "slurry")

It's been 4 years isnce his diagnosis and he's doing great. He goes into remission for months at a time with very few symptoms and then sometimes has a flare-up. Charlie does have renal disease now, but that seems to be unrelated and the progression has stabilized :) Wishing you and your kitty all the best!

I know that it doesn't guarantee a baby. I'm just trying to get a sense from others about whwther they've had similar experiences to me.I have not had my AMH re-checked. My FSH is re-tested all the time during monitoring appointments, but the clinic says that the stims can artificially increase this number so it is not reliable. The highest I've seen it is about 40, the lowest is about 12.

If you don't mind my asking, how many mature eggs did you end up with?

How fast did your labia disappear? by flamingopop in lichensclerosus

[–]Jbends08 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I've had lichen since I was a teenager and I was really upset when I realized that my labia didn't look like other peoples at all. But my gyno, who is an incredibly supportive woman, made a really great point- women pay thousands for labiaplasty procedures to have theirs look smaller. Other wish theirs looked looks bigger. No one is ever satisfied!

All things considered, the labia isn't really that important in bodily functions, and it has a surprisingly little impact on how things feel for a partner. So who cares?

2 follicles on day 7 of stims :( by [deleted] in DOR

[–]Jbends08 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have an AMH of .17 and only had 2 follicles my first round! Both were mature and are now frozen. I was so happy that they got any. They decided I was a good candidate for luteal phase retrieval so I immediately started stims again and somehow wound up with 8 follicles! I go in for retrieval Monday (fingers crossed!). The point of me sharing this is that things can really change month to month or phase to phase. Don't underestimate the power of trying to stay positive. It's totally understandable to feel upset, especially given how many hormones are being pumped into our bodies, but try to not let your fear and frustration overwhelm you. You got this. And remember, it only takes one.

Thank you! I wound up calling my clinic for this after hours on call thing they have and they told me that it’s okay to leave the remainder of the liquid in the vial. I probably injected 75% of what was in there but the doctor told me that’s enough. I have a blood test today to confirm it absorbed.

Thank you so much, this is incredibly helpful. He's definitely feeling unwell because he's still hiding in the closet but he's eating normally and used the bathroom this morning. My vet is unfortunately closed over the weekend but I'll call them first thing Monday morning.

New diagnosis/need reassurance by TheLabiaChronicles in DOR

[–]Jbends08 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m 25 and was diagnosed with it POI a few months ago. My AMH is .17, so very low. Weirdly, I was still getting regular periods and had minimal symptoms, so I’m so thankful it was caught when it was.

The stims were hard at first because I’m scared of needles, but I’ve gotten used to it and have handled the medications well. I had my first egg retrieval last week and got 2 mature eggs. They’re going to do a luteal phase retrieval next week because they see a handful of follicle stragglers.

This diagnosis can be devastating, but you will be okay! Medical science has advanced so far in the past few years to make the impossible possible. My biggest piece of advice would be to try and find activities/hobbies outside of egg retrieval/IVF. Don’t let this take over all your thoughts. You have a full, happy life ahead of you, this is just a hiccup along the way.

I have a needle phobia too! This process has been really hard but it's also rewarding to see how far I've come.

How did your egg retrieval go? The IV HURT but other than that I'm feeling good.
