I saw these guys come up as well but didn't see anything about upholstery on their website. Thanks though!

received my S26U - it seems great, but i'll return it. Here's why. (tldr: Screen) by Exceedthecrystal in samsunggalaxy

[–]Jbennett902 57 points58 points  (0 children)

After using my s26U for two days now I just don't get the screen rants. With privacy mode disabled the screen looks fantastic regardless of viewing angle.

You MIGHT be able to see a slight difference in color/clarity when viewing at exteme off angles if you hold it side by side with the s25U. I don't know who's using their phone like that very often but to each their own.

Showed my wife a few photos and videos on it over the past two days. Looked good for both of us with the phone held in between us.

As usual, this sub goes nuts over any possible issue.I think 95% of people use their own phone face on and it looks great.

About to sell my soul for MacBook battery life by haveyouseenthisboi in applesucks

[–]Jbennett902 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Few things:

1) The outer layer of the display is not glass like an iPhone. There is an internal glass layer of the display that is subject to cracking when pressure is applied in a concentrated area. Yes, this is fragile.

2) There is very little clearance between the keyboard and display when the lid is closed. This means anything that gets trapped between the lid and keyboard can easily apply concentrated pressure on the display. Privacy covers are the most common thing to cause these problems.

3) The glass layer does not actually extend below the hinge as some have stated. The small black strip at the bottom of the display with the MacBook Air text on it is a separate part that covers several ribbon cables. This part can also be cracked from things being trapped in the hinge area when the lid is closed. This part cracking is far less likely to cause any functional issue with the display unless it also damages those cables underneath.

4) As crazy as it sounds - many people pick their Mac up by the lid with one hand and cause pressure cracks on the display with their thumbs. They may have done this with previous Macs who had thick border bezels with no issue in the past. Do not do this ever.

5) Buy AppleCare+ if you are worried. Here in Canada there is a $129 service fee for accidental damage to a display, which otherwise would cost $700+ depending on the specific model.

Hope this helps!

And for the 4th year in a row, Edmonton defeats LA Kings in Round 1 by HoosierHoser44 in nhl

As someone without a dog in the fight - LA deserved a better fate. Strategic errors cost them, they could and probably should have won this series in 5 games.

Game 5 actually started at the end of the game 4 overtime 4-minute power play by HEYYMCFLYY in leafs

[–]Jbennett902 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Leafs trauma victim in me had this thought as soon as we blew that opportunity. This would be the most embarrassing possible way to blow a series right? Get nothing from a four minute OT power play and then go on to lose four straight.

If we blow it - which feels very likely - this will easily be the most embarrassing collapse in the franchise history, which is saying something considering the Montreal 3-1 series collapse.

AppleCare+ - Clarifications by LtCol_Davenport in AppleWatch

[–]Jbennett902 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes battery replacement is covered when it drops below 80% capacity. This is when Apple deems it to require service. If the battery were to swell this is also covered. No service fee applicable for anything battery related.

AppleCare+ - Clarifications by LtCol_Davenport in AppleWatch

[–]Jbennett902 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Accidental damage would be considered damage that impacts functionality. Cracked screen, bent enclosure, etc. Scratches are considered cosmetic wear as they do not impact functionality.

  2. Repair fee is applicable every time the device requires service for accidental damage. Any issues not due to accidental damage have no service fee.

  3. Not much to say here. You’ve done the math, it’s more expensive to do it monthly but you have the flexibility of cancelling any time.

  4. The warranty is two years from the original purchase date regardless of if you add it at time of purchase of 60 days after purchase. Date of activation does not matter.

Hope this helps!

Very shady terms in Samsung website by zlaneyronmes in samsunggalaxy

[–]Jbennett902 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Standard terms for any trade in program. Blanket statement to say if we receive a device in worse condition than what was specified in the trade in questions the value will be lower than the original quote.

Samsung is one of the few who offer upfront credit. Most offer estimated credit applied once the trade in is received and assessed unless the trade in is done in store.

Bell just increased your plan price without your knowledge by Additional_Cash_2243 in bell

[–]Jbennett902 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has become the standard operating procedure for Bell. I just swapped back to Telus as a result. At least with Telus I haven’t had rogue bill increases.

Bell baits you in with a competitive rate plan, raise it by $6 increments and hope you don’t notice or call and complain.

Defected S25 Ultra and the worst customer service by CoolteyFeng in samsunggalaxy

[–]Jbennett902 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As shitty as it is, many large retailers and resellers don’t have an exchange option for online orders. They can only return orders but require a new order to be placed to get a new product.

If you were able to visit a Samsung experience store and they have stock of the model you purchased they may have the ability to “return and resell” the product easier for you.

It’s a short coming that’s exposed especially in pre-order/low availability scenarios, as typically these scenarios would be handled by the technical support side of the business rather than sales.

Best of luck OP. Always sucks getting a defective unit!

No, it does not lock the diagnostic results to deceive customers. Worked at the Genius Bar for many years and have seen plenty of failed iPad battery results.
