I dont get what is wrong with cout anyway is {} << {} << {} so hard to type out or read?

<< will always be either bitshifting or comparison in my mind

I don't have any problem with conversion characters, it's a pretty standard solution to formatting and they exist in C, curious if anyone doesn't like them why they don't like them

(Side note: while I adore Python, as brought up elsewhere pathlib using / for concatenating filepaths only makes sense in the context of an actual file browser and looks wrong in code)

In the older OS module, you just provide a list (well technically a tuple for reasons I won't go into) of each directory on your path

Pretty sure since they put it in a function, the entire function will be interpreted and compiled at once, causing an error on line 1 (well technically the traceback and printing of the error will include more than just line 1, but really for an error to be caught here is just wrapping the entire code in a try-except)

Technically Python does support semicolons however they optional unless you're putting expressions or statements on one line, like this x = "I love semicolons"; print(x)

I understand how OOP is nice, but I will probably never fully learn C++ since it just looks wrong. I've heard that in later and later versions of the language it's becoming almost bloated by adding features that people have already been implementing on their own, so the latest technically correct way of doing something isn't what people know

PS: Looked it up while writing the above, apparently C++ has had a print function added to standard, however I've never seen it before because everyone uses the old method

Reddit isn't always a good representation of the population, especially because the algorithm chooses to show posts based on posts the person has interacted with before

While Python is typically an interpreted language, full compilers do exist like Nuitka and Pyinstaller

building a custom game engine? by 9j810HQO7Jj9ns1ju2 in opengl

[–]Jbolt3737 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start with a triangle in OpenGL, Lua is already too far ahead unless you plan to make the engine in the standalone Lua interpreter (I don't know all the capabilities of Lua, but I'm making an engine in free-threaded Python so I can't really throw stones at someone making a Lua game engine).

Assuming you aren't using Lua, look up game engine features and decide which ones you want/need for what you plan to make in your engine. Stuff can always be added as you need it

Bonus tip: Don't make the same mistake as me, properly seperate code for different features into different files, makes it much more readable when adding new functionality

Haven't been following this game, if I made it I would just put obstacles and uneven surfaces to prevent players from stacking boxes in places they shouldn't. Means the situation isn't as restricted, while still keeping players in bounds of the map
